Connect: Humility in Life, James 4:11-17 (NRSV), Pastor Jeff McVay
In this sermon, James is telling us of our tendency to do our own thing without considering God's will. We make plans and even arrogantly boast about them, when God had something much better for us to do. We act as if we control our lives when God has already planned every day before we were born. He has a better plan for our short lives than what we would naturally desire. But we must seek Him and acknowledge Him.

It is not enough to just be righteous or do good, but we must be submitted to God's will by going forth to share the gospel with people.

James 4:11-17 Pastor Phil Ballmaier 2-22-17 The James who wrote the epistle that bears his name is regarded by most, if not all evangelicals, to be James the half-brother of the Lord Jesus Christ. James was not a follower of Jesus during His earthly ministry but became a believer after His resurrection. James went on to become the lead pastor of the church in Jerusalem. He was the one who made the deciding speech at the Jerusalem Council (15:13–22), and Paul called James one of the pillars of the church (Galatians 2:9). The Book of James challenges us to walk in faith and obedience as doers of the Word and not hearers only. It is a radical call to commitment for those who are followers of Jesus Christ. Calvary Chapel Elk Grove is a non-denominational fellowship located in Elk Grove Village, a northwest suburb of Chicago in Illinois, led by our Senior Pastor, Phil Ballmaier. Our primary mission is to teach God's Word in its' entirety, verse-by-verse, precept upon precept. We believe that the Word of God is living and powerful, and because of Jesus' work on the Cross, He can and does move in the lives of His people. For more information, call us at 1.847.895.3545.

Sermons from Grace Church, Walworth, WI
A Proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course ,as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.
As we reflect on the commands of James we tend towards arrogance and point fingers at out here in judgment. We also stray towards self-sufficiency in our self-made independent culture. In both these cases we must not forget God's clear commands regarding our fellow believers and his constant hand in our lives. To know and forget, as James 4:17 says, would be sin!

Rooted and relevant messages from MRCC
In this message Pastor Aaron addresses two issues from James 4:11-17: the dangers of a critical spirit and planning that pleases God.
Slandering your brother is like turning your back on Gods law! your either in the word or of the world! Keep your tongue where it belongs, and think before you speak!

Religion alone leads to arrogance on multiple levels
Making judgements about people and plans for the future seem to be necessary parts of life. But the book of James has some seemingly strong words about this: “Who are you to judge your neighbour? ... You boast in your arrogant schemes.” What is the book of James really saying about how we can make good judgements and good plans?
Are we dew, or do we do?
