This week in physical media with Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski there is a whole lot of murder. Viggo Mortensen kills a bunch, Mia Goth gets in on the action, Yancy Butler does some drownings, Klaus Kinski does some biting, Brian Benben tries to solve some and Michael Biehn attempts to defend them. It's another packed week in October for physical media, especially on the horror side. But Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski also serve up some Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon and Larry David for you. But yes, horror, of course. This week you have Hammer horror from Frankenstein to anthologies, Adrian Lyne's hell on Earth with Tim Robbins and Georges Franju's classic tale of facial reconstruction. Also if you must there is a double feature presented by Joe Bob Briggs as well as films by Rob Zombie and Eli Roth. Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski look ahead in the world of physical media and reveal what you can add to your library this week and next. For those who have seen Spike Lee's remake, Highest 2 Lowest, Crtierion offers up the Kurosawa original in OK. It is Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer, and just before festival and awards season begins, Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy serve up 12 films to review and talk about. The wayback machine gets set to 2023 when they first reviewed the absolutely lovely new film with David Strathairn and Jane Levy from Sundance now in theaters (A Little Prayer). The machine goes back even further to reminisce upon Prince's concert film (Sign O' The Times) and the 50th anniversary Steven Spielberg's masterpiece (Jaws) both back in theaters. Can a cycle of revenge be explained to a newborn (The Workout) and can there be another family version of an old tale (Robin and the Hoods)? What happens when a toxic workplace is all about the toxic internet (American Sweatshop) and what happens when a toxic fan worms his way into a singer's entourage (Lurker)? A gaggle of British retirees team up to solve a crime and save their home (The Thursday Murder Club) and Peter Dinklage takes on Troma's iconic hero in a new update (The Toxic Avenger). Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman suffer the consequences of marriage in another 1980s remake (The Roses) while the makers of The Climb take on open relationships with Dakota Johnson (Splitsville). It's the battle of the big beasts this month with two mammoth new game launches and a third poised to be revealed. So, Jonathan from Pinball Magazine and Martin from Pinball News are back to bring you all the details in April's Pinball Industry News PINcast. The first beast into the arena was the Sandworm from Barrels of Fun's new Dune game. Based on the 2021 and 2024 Dune movies, the second release from the Houston-based manufacturer comes fully loaded with extensive cinematic assets as well as a new Horizon Atmospheric Lighting system, anti-reflective glass, a shaker motor and even a topper.Facing off against the Sandworm is the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World' in the form of Stern Pinball's new King Kong: Myth of Terror Island. The story of King Kong has been reimagined for Stern's latest cornerstone game which features an animated Kong being summoned by a swinging gong. Kong wreaks havoc, of course, aided by a giant spider as he blocks the balls and smashes a subway car to release the locked balls inside. The third beast is the elephant-in-the-room that is Jersey Jack Pinball's upcoming Harry Potter game. With manufacturing already underway at the company's Elk Grove Village factory, what will be the impact when we get the official release, expected later this month? Also looming large over the industry is the effect of trade tariffs – imposed, planned or threatened. Pinball manufacturers are taking their own approaches to the price increases on buying components and shipping complete games, while others are taking a wait-and-see approach. With some cuts in production already announced or anticipated, Jonathan and Martin look at who's doing what, and what it means for the wider market. There are also current production updates, along with news of some people leaving their posts and others being appointed to new positions.Plus, there are new code updates, of course, as well as some new products and limited-time special offers you won't want to miss. Also in this month's PINcast, Jonathan and Martin swap the pinball table for the dinner table to find out What's Cooking with… legendary game designer, Steve Ritchie. Steve spills the beans on his favourite recipes, so you too can eat like a King. So, make sure you download or stream this latest Pinball Industry News PINcast right now from your favourite podcast supplier. You'll also find it on YouTube and YouTube Music, or you can get it direct from Spotify on the link above, and don't forget you can also subscribe to the PINcast for free to guarantee you get the freshest episode delivered to you every month, the very moment it is released. With so much happening in the pinball industry right now and so much more excitement coming up, join Jonathan and Martin each month to guarantee you don't miss any of it. The Bums are back in the rail yard with Season 4, Episode 0111 -- having lost not one but two podcast episodes at the hands of a missing “micro” SD card (not called “micro” for nothing); nonetheless, we're back in the game with the first half jumping into HOCKEY — that's right — NHL HOCKEY — as the Panthers avoid disaster; NHL draft highlights (Russians are finally wanted for something); the NBA draft wraps up as the Chicago Bulls get a home boy with championship basketball blood in his veins (courtesy of Lithuania); the U.S. college teams have lost their mojo as Europe makes it's presence felt; Paddy drops a great IDNKT segment—Father and Son edition; the Summer Olympics are close at hand, but without modern western, modern conveniences (green-lessness is imported); and the Chicago Cubs erase more history with the disappearance of staple buildings/signage (Eamus Catuli Non Semper). The back half pops off with another universally famous beer review, as Mikerphone Brewing from Elk Grove Village, IL kicks out ‘Hey Mambo, Hey Mambo Italiano' (ABV 5.0) a super crisp, Italian style Pilsner that would nicely pair with pizza (go figure); Chicago's mayor Brandumb is in hot water again; Rocky's collection of golf shoes expands by one (at the hands of his lovely wife); the Galena tapes are reviewed during Father's Day escapades; Rocky and Paddy chase golf course ghosts; and close with a Riot Fest locale relo.   Better get some now, before Eddie and Rocky lose another episode.  Recorded on June 26th, 2024 at B.O.M.'s global headquarters ‘East Bunker' in Chicago, IL USA.
