Today's readings remind us that all good things come from God, and he calls us to specific places and times for a reason. In the book of Esther, Fr. Mike points out that Esther was perfectly positioned to fulfill God's will. We too, can examine our lives and realize that there are places God has brought us, "for such a time as this". The readings are Nehemiah 9, Esther 4 and 14, and Proverbs 21:9-12. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Fr. Mike reads the Sermon on the Mount and explains how Jesus' teachings powerfully fulfill the old testament law, and identify the broken human heart as the source of our sinful actions. We learn that Jesus himself is the remedy to our sins, and that the secret to holiness is living in the perfect will of God. Today's readings are Matthew 5-7, and Proverbs 18:21-24. What if the very challenges you face are part of God's greater plan for your good? In this sermon, Pastor James Wilson shares the truth of Romans 8:28, reminding us that all things work together for good to those who love God. From struggles with health and family to the battles against sin, Pastor Wilson teaches that God's sovereignty is absolute and His plan is never shaken. Drawing strength from Romans 8:37, he encourages us that we are more than conquerors through Christ's love. The key lesson is this: no matter what “things” you are facing, faith and obedience to God's Word will lead you to victory and transformation. Our discussion discusses the call of Matthew, a Levite who was not walking in the call of his tribe, which was to serve the priests and teach people the Bible truths. Instead, he chose to serve the Romans. Jesus called Matthew, and He left his job with the Romans collecting taxes. Matthew holds a dinner with many sinners and tax collectors who were trying to follow Jesus too. (Mark) Some Pharisees protest his eating with sinners. Jesus begins to teach the people at the dinner that God wants compassion and mercy. The study unfolds and is surprising to many of the men. One man who does study the Bible on his own said, "This is the best Bible study I have seen in a long time." Â Please note that our worship is from Hosea Chapter 6I hope you enjoy it. When we hear the word "authority," it often stirs negative feelings—many of us instinctively resist it. Yet, if we're honest, we tend to embrace authority when we're the ones in control. Through the story of Elisha, however, we'll discover why it's actually good news that God holds the ultimate authority.
