We live in a time where it never feels like there's enough mental energy to go around. A big part of my mission is certainly to help people build more of this energy so that can be happier, healthier and more successful. But on the other side of this equation is the importance of acknowledging the limited inner resources of others. You can make an extraordinary difference in your relationship with a team member or customer by acknowledging the effort put into simple every day tasks. This episode gets into the powerful strategies you can use to build a service culture, retain your best players and ultimately provide a smoother experience for your customers. All from simply accounting for the fact that we humans have limited time on this earth and how we spend it actually matters.Highlights:People are drawn to other people and experiences that: 1) demand less energy from them 2) appreciate the energy that they do put in.The existential crises that your older team members might be facing and how you can prevent them from thinking you're the reason for it.How TV's Ted Lasso can teach us how to influence through kindness and validationHow generosity pays off in the long run.The Serve Conscious mission is re-focusing its mission on only organizational challenges (not individual professional challenges - stay tuned for the Professional People Pleaser Podcast, which will focus solely on those areas).Go Deeper Into the Mindful Service Movement:Subscribe/Review on i-TunesContact or Work With MeGet Access to the live workshops and master the service mindsetJoin the Facebook CommunityFollow Me on InstagramConnect with me on LinkedInCheck out my partnership with The Institute for Organizational Mindfulness

Learning meditation was a game-changer for Stefan. It gave him the inner strength to be his unique self (without the negative self-talk!), connect with others better, and live a healthy happy life. Meditation also makes you realize your potential and gives you the fearlessness to pursue bigger and better things you never thought possible, so Stefan left a leadership role at a high-profile bar/restaurant to India to teach meditation. After doing that for years and deepening his tea ceremony practice, Stefan realized that the art of service was the richest path of self-cultivation available to him. Serving anything anywhere was the best way to apply and accelerate all the upgrades he got from meditation. So he started Serve Conscious to bring these tools and practices to anyone where service is part of their life - to awaken us to the power of service as a means of growth and self-mastery. This is a function of gratitude for your role. Learn how to be grateful for the opportunity to serve and without feeling like you're somehow lowering or degrading yourself. In fact, this mindset is what truly empowers you as an agent of service.Learn the difference between "outcome-oriented service" and "process-oriented service" and how one puts you on a path of mastery and joy in your work and the other sentences you to frustrations and resentment. An episode themed for the holidays! (Though any talk of service is relevant to this time of year...and any "holiday spirit" of service is relevant to every day of the year). The second episode of a powerful new series about practical service skills with endless applications to every aspect of life. They are often overlooked because they work on deeper levels than the surface technical skills than the modern service industry seems tends to over-prioritize. But learning these skills means learning true skillfulness (in the Eastern sense of acquiring wisdom, maturity and effectiveness) and transforming your service into one of power and possibility. Each episode stands on its own, but this one helps mobilize the previous one in the series: Learn How To Navigate People's Needs.Recommended pairings: the practice of Metta Bhavana. All of This is True:Compassion is a skill, not some kind of pious state that only the saintly are gifted with - learn the awareness practices that make you better at negotiation, handling challenging people and finding satisfaction in any work you do that involves other people.Compassion is different than empathy and sympathy. And gives you a certain power to transform a situation and how you respond to its challenges. AND, to boot, it doesn't require that you be a naturally empathic person.Learn how compassion refines your ego, taking you beyond the smaller sense of yourself you may be conditioned to believe. It makes you nimble, adaptable and capable of thriving in unfamiliar situations (because, when you pay attention, anyone can lose their threatening edge and reveal themselves as part of the same human family).Check out the practices section of the Serve Conscious website to learn a compassion accelerating Buddhist practice known as Metta Bhavana. This is also where I will re-emphasize the value of meditating regularly with this simple, but insanely powerful, practice. “It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question.” -Eugene Ionesco An interview with Marc Champagne, the visionary co-founder of the KYO App. We discuss the power of journaling. That’s right, sometimes the most mindful, growth-inspiring practices are things we did in grade school. However…they need to be done properly and with the right intent. Technology helps with this by making it a more portable, interactive, fluid and therefore effective practice. The KYO App accomplishes this by creating a tool that allows you to journal on the go…with the addition of a very powerful feature: the ability to prompt questions to yourself at certain days and times. It's also loaded with guides to conscious living, well-being and self-improvement that can provide you with the powerful and challenging questions you aren’t thinking to ask yourself. And this episode comes with a special opportunity for us, the Serve Conscious audience: a free month to try the entire paid version of the app (though the free one is still pretty damned robust). From your phones...Use this link to download/register. And this link to activate the 30-day access period. Try this out. All the smart guys say questions are everything. Just Google something like "all problems in life come from not asking the right questions” and you'll see. All roads that lead to the KYOApp world:HomepagePodcast (...and, by the way, they too have an awesome podcast!)InstagramTwitterLinkedInSupport the show (https://donorbox.org/support-serve-conscious)
