Dollar vans have long been the only option for people who live in "transit deserts" – underserved communities in urban areas that aren't close to any subways or trains. These informal ride share networks are sometimes the only affordable way to get to work or school – but they were ripe for innovation. Su Sanni, Founder and CEO of Dollaride, who grew up in a transit desert in Brooklyn, has built a game changing mobile app, making the experience far more accessible for van drivers and riders. In this episode, Su talks about his journey as a Black entrepreneur, the importance of founders finding mentors and prioritizing mental health, and why he prioritizes "moving at the speed of trust" when partnering with governments, regulators, customers and communities to drive innovation forward.

Since the 80’s NYC and other metropolitan areas have been known for their infamous “Dollar Vans”. These vans are small commuter vans that hold multiple passengers and can get you to your destination fast! Before Ubers and Lyft, commuters saw Dollar Vans as the cheaper alternative to taxi’s. Historically these vans would charge “only $1 dollar” for a ride along a normally pre determined route. Now, “Su” and his team at Dollaride have directly partnered with Dollar Van operators to expand their territory, increase their profits and give passengers more affordable travel options in transportation deserts. Dollaride has added tech to create a seamless payment process to the once cash only business and added some other cool features to enhance the user experience. Check out “Su”s story as he takes us through his entrepreneurial journey, selling his first start up #wedidit and raising 60 million in venture capitol to starting his current company, Dollaride. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/trucknhustle/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trucknhustle/support

His first company: folded. The second, WeDidIt: acquired. So now he's back at it for a 3rd time, with his biggest vision yet.Su (short for Sulaiman) Sanni is Co-founder and CEO of Dollaride, a mobility company for communities that are under-served by public transit. Su points out that there are over 100 Billion trips globally every year facilitated by informal transit systems. These informal alternatives arose to fill the 'transit deserts' left under supported by formal, public transportation options.Yet, within the informal transit ecosystem, there aren't tools to efficiently match rider demand with the supply of drivers and vehicles. Dollaride wants to change that with their new app. They are starting in Su's backyard - the boroughs of New York City. And they are working with the well-known dollar vans who canvas the areas 'between' the subway stops.
