Welcome to "The Re-Education of Nancy Anne Ridder," the podcast where three passionate cinephiles embark on a cinematic journey like no other. Join your hosts, Jar Jar Jeremy, Kevin "Crooksy" Crook, and the ever-curious Nancy Anne Ridder (or "NAR" for short), as they dive headfirst into the enigmatic and chilling world of Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive": Wellington, New Zealand. Lionel Cosgrove, an oppressed bachelor still living with his despotic mother Vera, has finally found his soulmate: Paquita, a compassionate grocery store clerk. But fate plays cruel tricks on mortals. After a visit to the local zoo, a vicious Sumatran Rat-Monkey bites Vera, and Lionel's already messed-up world falls apart. Now that Vera's got the "bite", the volatile situation at home spins out of control as the virulent infection gradually turns the cruel matriarch into a puss-squirting, flesh-eating living dead. And as if having to deal with a new Vera weren't enough, an ugly secret haunts the family, and Lionel's basement becomes a magnet for stimulant-enhanced zombie misfits. Poor Lionel, whether you like it or not, you'll have to man up to clean up the mess and confront your decomposing mummy. However, has Lionel what it takes to save the day and get the girl? Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Goons! Today's Monday and that means a brand new episode from your favorite horror podcast. On this episode of our New Year, New Zealand theme, Mikey and Ade are joined by special guest, Austin, to talk about 1992's Dead Alive, written and directed by none other than Peter Jackson. You may already know Peter Jackson from Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and a little movie about a hobbit getting lost called Lord of the Rings. He's also responsible for the 2005 remake of King Kong. The only reason I mention Kong is that there are clear references to Skull Island at the beginning of Dead Alive, so we can clearly see that Jackson is inspired by the classic Universal monster when creating this film. Dead Alive, aka Brain Dead in New Zealand and other parts of the world, follows our hero Lionel as his overbearing mother and notorious cock blocker, Vera, is bitten and infected by a Sumatran Rat Monkey. Hijinks ensue, and the horror community is blessed with one of THE most gory, goopy, gross, bloody, disgusting horror comedies ever to crawl out of the 90s. If you have not seen this film, please watch before listening, as there are a ton of spoilers, and we need you to make an informed opinion on this classic (as one of your hosts is not too keen on it. It's okay to be wrong, I guess). If you watch this episode on YouTube, you'll notice our backgrounds are Jason Voorhees related because we recorded this episode on Friday the 13th! Hope you all made the best of the holiday weekend! Feel free to let us know your favorite and least favorite of the franchise, and check out our very own co host, Jason's, comedic and poignant rating list on all the Friday 13th's posted in Instagram and Facebook! On this episode of the show, The Mad Monkey decided to invite a long lost cousin from New Zealand to visit. He said something about it being a Sumatran Rat Monkey. What could possibly go wrong? While we prepare to welcome his kiwi simian cousin, The Mad Monkey wants to discuss the 1992 spaltter cult classic; "Dead Alive" directed by Peter Jackson. Yes, kids. Well before Mr. Jackson was known for his epic "Lord Of The Rings" and "The Hobbit" films, he was cemented in the horror genre. So, grab a lawnmover and get ready to party with the boys of Talking Terror! It's sure to be a bloody good time!
It's episode 153... and I kick arse for the Lord! Braindead (1992) is called 'Dead Alive' in America, and this is the story: Lionel lives at home with his controlling mother, when he begins dating local shopkeeper, Piquita. Lionel's mother follows them on a date at the zoo, where she's bitten by a Sumatran Rat Monkey. What happens next must be seen to be believed, but have your sick bags at the ready... We talk about the most nauseating desert ever served in a movie; give some sound zoo-curation advice; and for god's sake, keep your keepsake. Whatever happens, one things for sure: I haven't had a good custard in years. She never makes the stuff. Another classic film solved by the best movie podcast in the world. Next week, it's the blockbuster to end all blockbusters: The Matrix (1999). Get in touch! HowtoSurviveShow@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter! @HowToSurvivePod

It's 1992 and old ladies are turning into zombies right at the dinner table! Don't lose your dinner!Theme song: "Club Transylvania" by The Computer Music All-Stars http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Computer_Music_All-Stars/Halloween_1182

After his overprotective mother is bitten by the aforementioned rat-monkey, her grown son, Lionel, finds himself over his head in a pile of zombies, romance, zombie babies, and anthropomorphic entrails in what has been called "the goriest movie ever made".
