Braga, King, and Ski talk Bad Lieutenant, a movie famous for introducing the world to Harvey Keitel's dong. It features actual heroin use, a fake NLCS with the Dodgers and Mets, and the weirdest crying put to film. Roger Ebert gave it a perfect score. Is it any good? Listen!
Few actors have embodied obsession, corruption, guilt, and authority quite like Harvey Keitel. In this Triple Feature actor focus, we examine three defining performances across three decades of filmmaking: The Duellists (1977), Bad Lieutenant (1992), and Cop Land (1997). From Ridley Scott's visually stunning debut feature, where Keitel plays a Napoleonic officer consumed by honor and vengeance, to Abel Ferrara's infamous portrait of addiction, moral collapse, and redemption in Bad Lieutenant, to James Mangold's examination of loyalty, corruption, and institutional decay in Cop Land, these films showcase the remarkable range and intensity that made Keitel one of the essential actors of the New Hollywood generation. Along the way, we'll discuss masculinity, power, violence, faith, police culture, and the evolution of American cinema from the 1970s through the 1990s. Join Mark Radulich and company as they explore three unforgettable films connected by one of the most compelling screen presences of the last fifty years.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Ep. 35 - Bad Lieutenant & Dragged Across ConcreteThis week, we are looking at the law of the street with Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant (1992) and S. Craig Zahler's Dragged Across Concrete (2018). We explore "cops crashing out," looking at how these films handle officers who have completely abandoned the rulebook. Bad Lieutenant serves as a visceral redemption story, suggesting that even the most irredeemable, drug-addled soul can find a moment of spiritual clarity. In contrast, Dragged Across Concrete functions as a pulpy reactionist fantasy. It presents a world of "white persecution" where the line between the badge and the mask is non-existent. We discuss how Zahler frames cops and criminals as two halves of the same coin, locked in a slow-burn cycle of suspicion and violence.

We cannot escape the tempting clutches of Peter Weller, it seems. Unfortunately, this time, we are at a loss. Elmore Leonard's CAT CHASER, adapted by Abel Ferrara (covered when we uncovered BAD LIEUTENANT), starring Weller and Kelly McGillis. What could go wrong? A lot supposedly. A troubled script process. Warring co-stars. Abel Ferrara. For a film that depicts mostly a bunch of conversations in rooms and locations with very little action, there were a tonne of accidents and near-fatal incidents on this shoot. Kelly proclaimed, "I WILL NEVER ACT AGAIN!" and took a 6-month hiatus. This film is rare. There is even a rarer 3-hr slop print that exists on videotape in the film archives. You might have to deal with the DVD-quality version on Hoopla (support your local library).

I could give you a warning, You ever listen to a guys podcast? did you? look at me, You ever listen to a guys podcast? hey! I'm talking to you, you ever listen to a guys podcast? This week we cover Bad Lieutenant (1992)
“What are you acting all crazy for?”The Nicolas-athon Cage-athon continues with our first Werner Herzog joint, The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call: New Orleans: Can We Possibly Fit Any More Colons into This Title? Topics discussed include the Millenium Films catalog, the film-ness of this film, Herzog's career, breaking the 180-degree rule, Terence's “save the cat” moment, a fine Goodfellas comparison, the reptile hallucinations, the weirdness that makes this different from a usual crime story, symbolism of reptiles in depictions of drug use, fish associated with goodness and purity, Terence's moral lines, the disturbing nature of the club parking lot scene, comparison with Snake Eyes and commentary on happy endings and redemption, Pruit as a force of evil, making us feel bad about identifying with a bad guy, the viral scene of his confrontation in the care facility, a brief explanation of points in betting, the first Bad Lieutenant, sightings of General Zod and Fairuza Balk, Armand as a good cop, some New Orleans chat, a bit on Mary Sues, dancing souls, the questions posed by film, and getting crunchitized by the captain.
Til the Break of Dawn
Jake had only seen one Abel Ferrara movie before this episode and now it's up to two. How did it go? Well, he did read Abel's entire autobiography leading up to the record so... Not bad. Johnny is back on the show to bring us another harrowing "feel good" picture. It's a good time, with a very... Bad Lieutenant.
Wonderful Morgan Gire returns to the pod and we talk the movies of Mr. Val Kilmer. Were you a fan? What films were your favorites? Have you seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? (That will prove your worthiness as a film buff and a fan.) Plus Real Genius, Top Secret, Top Gun, Batman and THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU OF COURSE!!! Tune in for a freewheeling, fun episode (we absolutely bounced all over the place but had a great time ).
This week we're going back a few years, back to the Vault. Randy Larsen and I were doing a sub-series called Road to Ruin where we discussed records and movies that we iconic to us. Apparently, doing Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant was my idea. Abel Ferrara's grimey, depraved exploration of a NYC detective's descent into darkness is one of my all-time favorite movies of the 90”s. But what about Herzog's version? Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Tokyo Express” – Die Haute feat. Nick Cave
This week's Hot Tags include WWE Crown Jewel moving from Saudi Arabia to Perth, Mercedes Mone charging $100 for people to be "text buddies" with her, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff's Real American Freestyle Wrestling and more.

I'm a huge fan of Gerard Butler tilting towards being a B movie action titan in mold of Liam Neeson or Jason Statham and loved the grimy, flawed Heat via Training Day via Bad Lieutenant charms of the original. Happily this seems to now have morphed into a franchise, though shifting in tone to a near buddy comedy, it still does enough.
Bad Lieutenant fever continues for the month of March as The Johns watch Bad Lieutenant Port Of Call New Orleans. Will we go to iguana heaven or overdose on the absurdity? Listen and find out!
Many people say this is a podcast about drinking good cocktails with your friends while watching bad movies. But we like to think it's also about romance. So, we prepare everyone for the most important holiday of the year, Valentine's Day, by scrolling through some "Best Gifts for Him/Her" lists and see if any of the tacky trash on them is actually a decent gift idea. Turns out...not many.Wolfcop: Some Canadian dude watched Teen Wolf and Bad Lieutenant, then decided to make a mash-up. THEN, the guy was able to get the Canadian taxpayer to pay for the project. But, these are the people that invented Poutine, so crossovers are right up their alley. As for the story, a drunk cop finds out he's a werewolf. Then he finds out the town is full of shape-shifters looking to harvest his blood. Talk about a complicated week. But, he embraces it, so good for ol' Lou Garou. Wolfcop final grade: Steve: A bit of a disappointment. High hopes not met. That's the problem with expectations. Too damn much shaky cam. Good practical effects, though. 2.25/5.0Brandon: If this is the best form of Canadian cinema, worthy of public grant money, then maybe it's time to shut the place down. Quite a wiener-twist in this one, or a hog-twist for those of you north of the border. 2.4/5.0Cocktail of the Week:Gin Old Fashioned2 oz Old Tom gin1/4 oz Semi-rich Simple Syrup Three dashes Orange BittersPlunk a hunk of lemon peel in a cocktail mixing glass along with some ice. Combine all ingredients in there and stir away. Strain into a lowball glass over a block of ice. Garnish with skewered lemon peel and Luxardo cherries.Cocktail Grade: Better than expected. Kinda tastes like a lemon-lime soda without the fizz. Not a Sprite, though. Jerry McGlothlin joins us once again to discuss Bad Lieutenant (1992) directed by Abel Ferrara and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009), directed by Werner Herzog. Two very different takes on utter corruption and the possibility (or not) of redemption, from two very different, but both visionary film-makers. A double feature for the ages with two towering central performances triggers one of our most enjoyable discussions so far - from the sublime to the ridiculous and back again. We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for both films, so if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for Bad Lieutenant by skipping ahead to the 1:09:48 mark, and for Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans by skipping ahead to 1:52:38. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay wake up, drop the kids off, do some key bumps in the car, and discuss a masterclass in degenerate cinema, 'Bad Lieutenant.' Andy takes us back to his days as a white collar dirtbag when he saw the opportunity to get some product for free from a dealer, but learned the hard way that nothing is ever free. Then the boys talk about Abel Ferrara's grimiest film which earned every bit of its NC-17 rating. Bolstered by a career-defining performance from Harvey Keitel who scream-cries his way through pre-Giuliani New York while abusing every substance imaginable. All while seeking redemption by attempting to help a nun who was painfully wronged, and visiting his dealer who was played by the angelic Ferrara collaborated Zoe Lund. In this episode of the show we are concluding our month-long male therapy session as we talk about Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about Ferrara's stylistic and thematic relationship with Martin Scorsese, the movie being a journey towards spiritual catharsis, and rogue filmmaking. We also talk about Harvey Keitel's audacious role choices, his many infamous scenes and that for some reason this movie is a formative experience for Jakub who has watched it more often than it is perhaps healthy for the human brain. Our discussion is headed off by our regular hosts Tom Komisar and Cameron Scott! Join the two of them as they take a deep dive dissection of this gritty exploitation effort! Come on in at the Grindhouse Pizzeria, pull up a chair, and grab yourself a slice!

We have another Hard Knocks episode tonight and Jets fans seem somewhat worried about this season. Gio said Jets fans need to expect to win and have to get the ‘Joe Benigno gene' out of their system. C-Lo is here for his first update and starts with the Mets winning again by beating the Braves. Brian Daboll responded to Gronk saying he would come out of retirement for Daboll. And the Knicks are suing the Toronto Raptors. In the final segment of the hour, when Gio was a huge fan of Mike & The Mad Dog, he rented Bad Lieutenant because Russo was in it.
