Welcome back to another episode of "Myopia Movies," where we strap in for the cinematic car crash you can't look away from! This week, we embark on a journey to the lunar land of broken dreams and bad investments with Adventures of Pluto Nash. Picture this: Eddie Murphy in space. Sounds promising, right? Well, hold onto your moon boots because this isn't the star-studded, sci-fi spectacular you might imagine. Instead, it's a $100 million black hole of comedy that makes you question everything—your taste in movies, your life choices, and even the concept of money itself. Join us as we dissect the plot—or the lack thereof—of this lunar lunacy, featuring a club owner who dreams of… well, owning a club. From the laughable special effects to the "did-they-really-think-this-was-funny?" dialogue, we'll navigate the rocky terrain of one of Hollywood's most notorious box office bombs. So, buckle up and prepare for a mission to the dark side of the moon, where the only thing lower than gravity is the bar for comedy. Adventures of Pluto Nash: It's out of this world... and straight into the bargain bin. How will Adventures of Pluto Nash hold up? Host: Nur Panel: Keiko, Nic, Charlie, Daniel Directed by: Ron Underwood Starring: Eddie Murphy, Rosario Dawson, Jay Mohr, Randy Quaid, Joe Pantoliano, Luis Guzmán, Peter Boyle, Pam Grier, John Cleese, Alec Baldwin
For our second Bombs Away, we're diving into The Adventures of Pluto Nash! It's an attempt to make Eddie Murphy a dang action hero! It wasn't successful. This 2002 American science fiction action comedy film is set in 2087 and follows former smuggler Pluto Nash, who now runs a nightclub on the Moon after buying it from Paulie from the Rocky movies. Despite a star-studded cast including Randy Quaid, Rosario Dawson, and Joe Pantoliano, this movie is considered one of the biggest box office bombs in cinematic history. Is it worthy of all the hate?Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-content

Send us a Text Message.Ever wondered what would happen if Eddie Murphy had skipped "The Adventures of Pluto Nash"? We've got you covered! Join us as we put Eddie Murphy's filmography under the microscope, starting with the laughably ambitious flop "The Adventures of Pluto Nash." We crack jokes about Murphy's multiple roles and take a playful jab at Alec Baldwin's stealthy cameo. Fuel our fun debate on an alternative universe where names like Brendan Fraser, Bruce Willis, or even the late Chris Farley might have stepped into the spotlight – would it have been a game-changer for this sci-fi comedy?Grab your popcorn because our "Movies and Characters Chat" is nothing short of a rollercoaster. We dissect a film that could have doubled as a marathon – one long, breathless chase scene – and chew over the missed comedic opportunities. Did Rosario Dawson's casting play a part, or did the studio's scissors snip away the laughs? Oh, and if you're a fan of Luis Guzman, we're rallying behind his comedic chops, imagining him as Gomez Addams in "Wednesday," and comparing him to the legendary Raul Julia. We cap off this lively discussion by embracing the unfiltered joy of Eddie Murphy's performance in "Pluto Nash" – no holds barred.Closing out Andrew and I serve up a no-holds-barred review of a film that recently let us down, big time. Picture this: a cinema experience so underwhelming, we'd sooner discuss moon-based gyms and hypothetical wild animal encounters in space. We confess to seeking refuge in fantasy football trades and the Mariners game, anything to escape the yawn-inducing flick we endured. Listen to the second episode of an six part mini-series where movies that were disastrous are explored. Part two is the movie that made Eddie Murphy cry: The Adventures of Pluto Nash. A director was locked out. An editor was replaced. An actor in a bit part was uncredited and stalked by a co-worker. And that's not even mentioning the caliber of movie. This one's a stinker. One of our Patreons nominated Eddie Murphy's notorious 2003 sci-fi action 'comedy' The Adventures of Pluto Nash for this episode, which on paper should have been promising. Its star was coming off a string of family-friendly comedies like The Nutty Professor, Dr. Dolittle and Shrek. Its supporting cast includes Randy Quaid, Rosario Dawson, Joe Pantoliano, Jay Mohr, Pam Grier and John Cleese. It's directed by quirky action/comedy wunderkind Ron Underwood of Tremors fame and has a budget north of $100 million. What could possibly go wrong?! A lot, it turns out. Quite a lot. But despite being the biggest box office flop of all time when it was released, it hasn't emerged as either a reclaimed cult classic or a so-bad-it's-good guilty pleasure... it's been largely forgotten. So, let's take a look at this curio and decide whether we're over the moon with it... or hitting the abort button before it causes collateral damage! After various production problems, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has finally hit theaters and become another box office smash. So, it only seems appropriate for Double Edged Double Bill to return to the world of films with troubled productions for Revember! First, $100 million and extensive on set rewrites resulted in a flop that nearly destroyed Eddie Murphy's career with The Adventures of Pluto Nash! Then, Robert Zemeckis managed to overcome being denied by every studio and a complete recasting of his lead actor to create the absolute classic with Back to the Future! Then, Robert Zemeckis managed to overcome being denied by every studio and a complete recasting of his lead actor to create an absolute classic with Back to the Future! Together, our duo answers the crucial questions. Is Eddie Murphy responsible for Pluto being stripped of its planet status? Will Ken Burns help them explain what happened between 1955 and 1985? This week we shoot for the moon for space action gambling heists. We're talking of course about "The Adventures of Pluto Nash." So many wrongs in this movie that all are somehow six degrees separated from Nickelodeon's "Hey Arnold!" More on that later though. Flat salty lakes! Hot feather duster ass! Bob's girl! Eddie Murphy's turdy wordies! Randy robots! Bruno's battery baton! Carefree companion cloning! Straight scripts! Beefy catchalls! Assy side-gigs! Slut machines! Dusty dystopian Stallone tropes! Randy Quaid losing it, and much, much more on this week's episode of The Worst Movie Ever Made! www.theworstmovieevermade.com Please write us hate mail, because we hate ourselves too, and would like to agree with you.
Returning to the podcast is our guest.. Darien Sills Evans (Abc's The Connors, CBS's East New York). We asked him to comeback to the podcast to give his unbiased opinion on some Eddie Murphy movies that he had never seen before. We talk about the awkward marketing of the movie "Holy Man"; Why I never did an official episode of "Holy Man"; Eddie's movies in the 90s; The insane plot of "Another 48hrs"; possibly getting Doug E Doug, Jeffrey Joseph (Google Him) or Kadeem Hardison on the podcast & Terrible but fun movies of the early 1990s. We drop names of different movies toward the end. You might wanna google them as well ("Def By Temptation", "Heart Condition". "Hanging with The Homeboys"....etc)Also Darien Sills Evans directed a movie that I highly recommend called "One Bedroom" (Amazon) Support the show
Another superhero summer movie... of sorts. This week, the guys wax poetic about the abysmal blockbuster comedy flop The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Why waste $100 million on THIS script!? Was Eddie Murphy napping during the entire production? What was with that sound effect that came on every time Randy Quaid spoke? Why did it seem like the dialogue mostly improvised (and badly at that)? A sexy robot maid? HOW DID THIS COST $100 MILLION!? Check our social media on Sunday for the Sunday Screencrap and take a guess at our next movie! What We've Been Watching: Thor: Love and Thunder UHF Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Episode 097 of That Was Disappointing is Live. We're the nuking the fridge of podcasts. Huzzah! Today's Theme: Bad movies. Again, but worse. Speaking of which, has anyone seen The Money Shot (besides us) yet? Emphasis on “bad” as one of your favorite co-hosts/frenemies forgot to check the spreadsheet and thought we were talking about film in general. But hey, at least we got to rehash the Oscars and how much of a wiener Will Smith is. We were always Team Carlton anyway. Oh, and speaking of bad movies (and shot podcasts), please check out our sister podcast Subversive Cinema. You might learn a thing or two about Art and his obsession that led him to the west coast. Be forewarned though, his guests are nowhere as cool as the guests we have on here.

Episode 49 is here, and this week, Liam and Rob take a look back at 1984's, Beverly Hills Cop, back to a time when Eddie Murphy was the new king of Hollywood and the disasterous likes of Norbit and Pluto Nash (remember that one) were yet to tarnish what was, back in the mid-80s, a near spotless CV (let's just forget Best Defence ever happened).
Here's a math problem for you to solve…what do you get if you have 100 million dollars, give Eddie Murphy 20% of that, subtract the cost of making a movie, then add the box office totals? The answer…you get one of the biggest box office flops of all time. We may have our hands full as we try prove to you that The Adventures Of Pluto Nash…is not that bad. This week our boys are headed out west to the small town of Perfection, Nevada with their special guest, filmmaker Chris Ray, to talk about the 1990 western-themed monster horror comedy, Tremors. In this Ron Underwood (City Slickers and The Adventures of Pluto Nash) feature, we get introduced to the brotherly duo of Valentine "Val" McKee and Earl Bassett played by Kevin Bacon (Footloose and Hollow Man) and Fred Ward (Escape from Alcatraz and The Right Stuff), who show us the importance of standing your ground, even when there's literal monsters underneath it. Filling out the remainder of the town we meet the Gummers played by country music star Reba McEntire (Reba) and Michael Gross (Family Ties and literally every Tremors spinoff there is), a couple who shows us that guns can only get you so far... pipebombs do the rest. Our hosts and special guest break it all down for you in an episode that gets surprisingly real and serious. It turns out that graboids can not only grab your legs and consume you whole, but they can also grab at your heart strings.
