Andy and Randy get in to the differences of how Falcons played in the first half of season vs how they have been playing recently
Everything is bigger in Texas—including the crime scenes. This week, we're heading to the Lone Star State to untangle a web of small-town secrets, big-time betrayal, and a motive as dry as a West Texas summer. Grab a Shiner, lock your doors, and remember: in Texas, "bless your heart" is a kindness, but "I've got a shovel" is a threat.Research links below! abc13 - "Texas Mansion Mystery: The life and murders of Joan Robinson Hill and Dr. John Hill"HAIF - "The Murder Of Joan Robinson Hill"Texas Archive - "Joan and John Hill Murder Investigations - KPRC-TV Collection"People - "A Texas Socialite Died Mysteriously. In this episode, Chris raises pointed questions about President Trump's newly unveiled “Wall of Fame,” complete with bronze plaques and biting inscriptions aimed at past presidents. From the absence of President Biden's portrait to the sharply worded commentary beneath it, the display blurs the line between historical record and political trolling. What's the purpose of memorializing predecessors this way, and is it appropriate for a sitting president to remake a shared national space to settle scores? Even some allies are scratching their heads. This is less about partisan outrage and more about judgment, decorum, and what kind of legacy this kind of spectacle is meant to leave behind.

“What if you took the idea about go to hell pants and expanded it to every part of your life?” Our next guest, Dr. Evan Thomas Woods, Senior Lecturer at The Ohio State University, posed this very question on our program this week. Listen up, Dr. Woods is maybe the third or fourth PhD who we have coerced into appearing here, and we got pretty cerebral. We pondered Columbus, Ohio, “value theory,” ethics and aesthetics, the “need to be systematized,” the ups and downs of veganism, “Standing up against a world that's becoming flat and conformist,” “use it or lose it” creativity, HIS TRIPLE DIGIT COLLECTION OF JACKETS, fuck you jackets, go to hell pants, pulling inspiration from old paintings, “pattern maximalism,” fit pic philosophy, “school picture day smile,” Ivy brands: J. With Testo Junkie, Pornotopia, An Apartment in Uranus and Can the Monster Speak, Paul B. Preciado became established as one of the most exciting and challenging social thinkers of our time. His latest book Dysphoria Mundi (Fitzcarraldo), a mutant text assembled from essays, philosophy, poetry and autofiction, draws on the experience of the Covid pandemic and the social convulsions that accompanied and followed from it to argue that dysphoria, far from being a form of mental illness, is the defining condition of our age. In what is his most accessible and significant work to date he seeks to make sense of a world in ruins around us, at the same time mapping a joyous, radical way forward. Preciado was joined by Nathalie Olah, author of Bad Taste and Steal as Much as You Can. Jen Psaki observes that as Donald Trump gets more comfortable with his autocrat persona, the traits that made him a societal laughing stock all his life are coming to define his leadership style. And the mockery he has become has so diminished him that his opponents are emboldened to get in the way of his demolition of the United States.Donald Trump's lackeys in Congress are trying to support his effort to exact revenge on the public servants who tried to hold him to account. Former special counsel Jack Smith is a prominent name on Trump's enemies list, so it's not surprising that Congressional Republicans would try to discredit him with their investigating-the-investigators hearings. Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann talks with Jen Psaki about why Jack Smith is smart to agree to participate in the hearings on the condition that they be public. Jen Psaki addresses questions posed at the White House press briefing, giving more honest and direct answers than the White House is willing to offer on questions ranging from Donald Trump's desecration of the White House to Trump's pardoning of a crypto-criminal business associate.

This week, Dan “The Part-Time Avenger” and Mark “The Resident Jedi” kick off the Halloween season with a dive into Peter Jackson's earliest and weirdest work — Bad Taste. Long before The Lord of the Rings, Jackson was making aliens, chainsaws, and questionable dinner scenes on a shoestring budget. The hosts break down the bizarre mix of comedy and chaos, dissect whether it's a hidden gem or just a messy milestone, and debate if this cult classic truly deserves its reputation. One thing's for sure: by the end, you'll be wondering whether they could really do this all day.
Joe Begos is a renegade indie filmmaker and a household name in horror. His body of work includes Bliss, VFW, The Mind's Eye, Christmas Bloody Christmas, and his latest splatterfest Jimmy and Stiggs—which is easily one of my favorite horror films of the year. I love this movie, I love that it exists, and I love what it represents.Joe is one of the most adaptive and irrepressible filmmakers I've ever met—he's worked across multiple budget tiers and has delivered a consistent stream of bold and unique horror films throughout his career. What Joe has proven to me—film after film—is that there's no excuse not to make movies, and no excuse for them not to be good. Jimmy & Stiggs was shot entirely in his apartment, on a shoestring budget, and stars Joe himself. But despite its humble production origins, the film is propulsive, fun, fully unique, looks fantastic and was edited beautifully by former guest Josh Ethier. The film holds its own next to splatter classics like Evil Dead, Dead Alive, and Bad Taste, all while staying true to Joe's gonzo, neon-soaked style. In this conversation, Joe walks us through the insane 4 year journey of making Jimmy & Stiggs, his process, influences, alien creature design and the chain of events that led to Eli Roth picking up the film. He also offers his blunt, no-BS advice to emerging filmmakers.Key TakeawaysImitate before you InnovateJoe describes his early films, like Almost Human and The Mind's Eye, as exercises in emulating his inspirations like John Carpenter and Cronenberg. It wasn't until Bliss that he felt like he'd really found his voice, but to get there, he had to imitate the masters that came before him. Once he found his voice, he fully committed to making movies only he could make.Make movies only you can makeJoe has one of the most defined directorial signatures in horror today—every one of his films is instantly recognizable as his. This commitment to personal vision has allowed him to carve out a cinematic identity that stands apart from the increasingly homogenized landscape of genre filmmaking. Developing a body of work that is unmistakably your own is a high watermark for any filmmaker and a path to building a sustainable, meaningful career.Make your fucking movieIf you look at Joe's career, one thing is clear—he does not stop making movies. Jimmy & Stiggs was born during COVID, between greenlit projects, when the industry was on pause. Instead of waiting around, Joe did the classic indie move: he took inventory of what he had access to—his apartment, a camera, a few close collaborators—and made a movie, casting himself in the lead.Joe's irrepressibility is something to study. He seems physically incapable of not making movies—and he'll sacrifice his apartment, personal finances, and whatever else it takes to get the job done. This is the kind of relentless drive that indie filmmaking demands. Joe is also well aware of how the system works. Agents often discourage small projects because there's no commission in it for them. But Bliss and Jimmy & Stiggs—two of his lowest-budget films—were made outside of that system, on his own terms, and ended up being some his most talked-about work. For filmmakers being told to wait their turn, Joe's message is simple: don't. Make your fucking movie. Even if it sucks, it's better than having no movie at all.Jimmy & Stiggs is now streaming on VOD. Show NotesMovies:BlissVFWChristmas Bloody ChristmasThe Mind's EyeAlmost HumanJimmy & StiggsEvil...

Better grab something to write with before you hit play on this one. In this extra-long episode, we dive into a variety of horror sub-genres and each pick a title that we think defines that category. Not necessarily the best film, but one that captures the essence of the sub-genre in a meaningful way. To help us take on this ridiculously huge (but fun) challenge, we've brought back Aaron Christensen—aka Dr. AC—to join the conversation. If you're new to the genre, this one's especially for you. If you've been around a few years (or decades) we think the conversation is still worth your time, and we hope that you consider giving a few of these a revisit. Time to start that new watchlist! All set? Notes ready? Coffee or energy drink in hand? Then hit play! Send us a textMeet MacKenzie Lee, a Boston-based singer-songwriter who's crafting a unique musical identity she calls "dark pop." Stepping into our studio with the confidence of someone who's found her authentic voice, Mackenzie shares the winding path that led her from childhood singing to college acapella performances and finally to her current work with Red 13 Records. What makes MacKenzie's approach fascinating is her refusal to be boxed into conventional genres. Drawing inspiration from artists like Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey, she's equally influenced by comedic musicians such as Bo Burnham and The Lonely Island—creative minds who blend impressive musical ability with clever, thought-provoking content. This unexpected combination hints at an artist determined to create music that's both emotionally resonant and intellectually engaging. The conversation takes us through Mackenzie's formative experiences, including how her acapella background trained her ear to deconstruct songs into their component parts. "You really learn to appreciate every single piece that goes into a song," she explains, describing how this shapes both her listening habits and creative process today. We also discover the emotional significance behind the grand piano visible during our interview—a treasured inheritance from her grandmother, the only other musician in her family. After discussing Mackenzie's debut single "Bad Taste on Love" and her upcoming release "The Ghost of Us," we shift to the latest country music news, covering artists like Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert supporting Texas flood victims. The episode culminates in a spirited debate about the greatest vocal collaborations of all time, with listeners passionately defending their favorites from Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton to modern pairings like Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood.LinksJay Franze: https://JayFranze.comVirtually You: https://www.virtuallyyouva.com/ Support the show

They discuss the finest dishes he's encountered and where he finds the best (and worst) places. The Inside TrackThe Guys often road trip through the U.S. and were thrilled to hear Michael and his wife Jane's theory about a pillar of American cuisine: barbecue. Here is their tip on finding the best places.“ Jane and I, in fact, developed a whole theory. It's the pigs plus Jesus theory of barbecue. When you're in the deep south, if you go into a barbecue parlor and see a lot of religious iconography on the wall, chances are very good the barbecue is gonna be excellent,” Michael Stern on The Restaurant Guys Podcast 2005BioMichael and his wife Jane were trailblazing guides for over 40 years. After meeting at Yale, where they came to study art, they began a collaboration that has yielded over forty books including New York Times best sellers Elvis World and The Encyclopedia of Bad Taste. Blake has done it again! After bringing us cinematic gems like Surf Nazis Must Die, Bad Taste, and the legendary disasterpiece The Room, our resident connoisseur of chaos has picked another fever dream for us to unravel—Peter Jackson's Meet the Feebles. If Bad Taste showed Jackson's love for over-the-top gore, Meet the Feebles proves he was just as committed to pushing the boundaries of decency, this time with puppets.Meet the Feebles was envisioned as a satirical take on the entertainment industry, blending puppetry with extreme violence, crude humor, and dark social commentary. The project was initially planned as a television series but evolved into a full-length film when Jackson and his team realized the scope of their chaotic vision. The film was produced on a shoestring budget in Jackson's native New Zealand, with much of the work done by a small, dedicated team—including many who would later go on to work on The Lord of the Rings. The puppets were created by hand, with their grotesque designs pushing well beyond anything audiences had seen in traditional puppet-based entertainment. Despite limited distribution and a niche audience at the time of release, Meet the Feebles has since gained a cult following, solidifying its place as one of the most bizarre and audacious films in Jackson's early career. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter.www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesbackTrailer Guy Plot SummaryIn a world... where puppets have problems just like the rest of us—only much, much worse—one variety show is about to become a full-blown disaster. Behind the curtain of The Fabulous Feebles, drug deals are going down, backstabbing is rampant, and the star of the show, Heidi the hippo, is on the verge of a total meltdown. As betrayals stack up and tensions reach a breaking point, this cast of misfit puppets hurtles toward an explosive, blood-soaked finale. From the twisted mind of Peter Jackson comes a no-holds-barred assault on good taste—get ready to Meet the Feebles!thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback
