Levi Morgan, Andy Morgan and Matt Elliott talk with Dave Wootten of Trinity Oaks, Army Veteran, devout Christian, Archery hunter, Father, and man on a mission to bring healing to Veterans and the children of fallen military Vets, Police Officers and Fire Fighters through hunting, fishing, archery and the outdoors. An important story for everyone to hear, understand the incredible sacrifices that have been and will be made, and what each one of us can do to offer support to a community that has afforded us everything.
David Wootten is our first return guest on this week's episode of The HHAUSA Podcast. We discuss his recent deer hunt to Arizona where he was blessed to harvest his largest buck to date. Listen in as David puts an epic stalk on a great muley. Taking his boots off to close the distance, his Mathews bow and HHA sight sealed the deal at 84 yards and brought tears of joy to the Army Veteran and those along on the hunt.We also talk about the release of the first installment of films by HHAUSA documenting the healing power of archery to the Veteran and First Responder community. Wootten himself credits a bow and arrow with saving his life back in 2011 and is now passionate about changing the lives of others with a stick and string. He also details his work with Trinity Oaks, a San Antonio based nonprofit, providing dream hunts to Purple Heart Veterans, Gold Star and terminally ill children. God, country and family are the very fabric of who David Wooten is and the friendship that he and I have developed in the last year is difficult to put into words. Like so many of the Veterans that I have grown close to in the last handful of years, I am honored and humbled to serve alongside him to help those who need it most. We look forward to seeing each other once again at Mission 17 when our 2022 HHAUSA Archery Shoot Tour kicks off in Warrens, Wisconsin. If you're free May 14th and 15th, stop in, thank him for his service, and see what makes this man such a force in the Veteran and archery community.

Today we chat with David Wooten of Trinity Oaks Non-Profit about their efforts in providing dream hunts to terminally diagnosed veterans, first responders, and children of first responders who have lost a parent. www.trinityoaks.org dwootten@trinityoaks.org www.vanguardstories.com
After tragically losing his father as a child, David Wootten lived a lost and reckless life of rebellion as a teen and young adult that ultimately led to joining the Army. A career ending injury in Iraq coupled with struggles with PTSD, alcohol and drugs left him on the verge of losing his family and even his life. It wasn't until a pastor introduced David to the sport of archery and to a God he thought had abandoned him that he finally found the love, peace and purpose he had been searching for.

In this episode, I chat with Brittany Longoria. She is an accomplished hunter, conservationist, philanthropist and storyteller. Along with her husband, she has hunted all over the world. Brittany runs her company Rock Environmental, LLC (http://rockenvironmental.com), where she provides philanthropic consulting for nonprofits and donors. Britt works with a variety of companies and sits on the board for a number of companies like Trinity Oaks in Texas (https://trinityoaks.org). We also discuss the treatment of female hunters on social media and why there is such an aggressive attitude directed and women hunters online. Britt was the subject of this backlash when a picture of her with a leopard was taken from her Instagram page and used by anti-hunters. Britt’s Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/brittlongoria/) is a great place to follow her adventures. Britt is telling her story of hunting and conservation for all to enjoy and show the full hunting story.

"I woke up at the hospital. I came to with a broken shoulder. The girls who found me, knew me, and they didn't recognize me. My buddy, the police officer, had tears in his eyes. All I could think about was my brother and I handling things." — Garrett L. George By their own definition, Trinity Oaks uses hunting and fishing to give back and make a difference in the lives of others. That’s veterans, children of our fallen first responders and veterans, kids who have terminal illnesses, and the hungry. We’re going to get into all of this through one of Trinity Oaks’ volunteers, Garrett George. Garrett is doing some fantastic work through Trinity Oaks. But he comes from a troubled past. It’s been a long, difficult journey for him. Now, I will say, through Garrett’s journey, there have been some troubling tales, which he’s candid about in this interview. This show may not be right for young listeners for that reason. There’s not any language or anything like that—but there is a recounting of a tale from Garrett’s past that could be a little intense for kids. As always, please log time for listening to this show on GoWild and let me know what you thought of the show. Garrett, our guest, is on there so tag him. My hope is this show leaves you inspired and looking to give back in a new way. This organization is a great supporter of hunters and conservation, and I am proud to partner with them. Hunting and conservation, what’s not to like, right? If you agree, great. Then I want you to come on to Houston, Texas with me to attend the Houston Safari Club Foundation’s Convention and Hunting Expo. This is a great chance for a family trip or a break away with the buddies. The convention is a celebration of wildlife, wild places and the hunting lifestyle we all love. It has thousands of visitors and exhibitors coming from all over the globe for a three day exposition. Beyond the convention, you can experience some amazing entertainment, with performances from folks like Corey Morrow, Rickey Davis and Billboard chart-frequent flyer, Kevin Fowler. There are banquets and luncheons, auctions and more stuff than I possibly have time to tell you about right now. And as Joe said in his most recent interview, Houston is a great place to spend a weekend and grub. You know what the best part of all of this is? Your tickets and support of this expo help fulfill Houston Safari Club Foundation’s mission of preserving the sport of hunting through education, conservation and the promotion of our hunting heritage. The show is January 25 through the 27th in Houston Texas. I will be wandering the floor on January 26 and possibly the morning of the 27th. Please send me a direct message on GoWild if you’re going to be there and we’ll meetup. Learn more at hscfdn.org/convention.
