Kevin is a former Fire Chief and trumpet student of mine back in my hometown. I was just out of college and he was a high schooler at that time. We have stayed in touch all these years later and he is now one of my go to prayer warriors. When Kevin prays, God moves into action. While on the job as a Firefighter he had encountered many miracles. In this episode, Kevin talks about a few of these miracles, as well as, the tragedy of his home being destroyed by fire at a young age. Firemen were there for him and his family. Ministry comes from places we don't expect it! Chris Howe endured 17 long years of addiction to alcohol and drugs while working as a firefighter. He was different from everyone else in the department. He was smaller, tattooed and spent his time away from the job with alcoholics, addicts and criminals. This double life filled him with self hatred and secrets. He'd been effected deeply by childhood sexual trauma and PTSD on the job and had no place to put it. Instead he was asked everyday to bottle up his feelings and do his job and the only way to cope involved massive amounts of alcohol and drugs to numb it all.Eventually the internal pressure became too much, resulting in 3 suicide attempts in 3 years before finally finding recovery on the morning he wrote his final suicide plan.Today, Chris is 11 years sober, a Captain with the Niagra Falls Fire Department and an addiction recovery speaker. In his bid for re-election this year, incumbent District 4 Marion County Commissioner Carl Zalak touts his support for Marion County first responders high up on the list of his accomplishments during his 12 years in office. One segment of those public servants, however, begs to differ. The Professional Firefighters of Marion County (PFFMC) has endorsed Rachel Sams, one of Zalak's opponents in the Aug. 23 Republican primary and a former first responder herself. Sams served on the Ocala Police Department for four years before resigning in 2017. Daniel Garcia, president of the PFFMC, explained that the union chose not to endorse Zalak because of his spotty record when it comes to backing its members. "Zalak has been an occasional supporter of the fire department," he said, "but he's rarely been a supporter of firefighters, EMTs or paramedics." So... are we going to reelect a corrupt political leader or are we going to VOTE for the very strongest candidate for County Commission in district 4? If you are uncertain who that is, that individual is Rachel Sams. So, on August 23, 2022 I urge you to VOTE Rachel Sams for Marion County Commission District 4. Thank you. Always take the higher road. Have you ever been slighted? Have you ever want to seek revenge on someone? This can and often causes strife and anger in you. This can fill your heart with hate. This can consume you. I have been there. I have said things or sent messages to people that I often regret. Although, I can't undo the past I can learn from my mistakes and take the higher road in the future. When I do this, I am at peace because I am no longer consumed with seeking revenge. I encourage you to do so too. The anger, revenge and toxic attitude only hurts one person - YOU. Take the higher road. I am not saying not to defend yourself in some situations, but I am advising you to take a pause before you take action and think - Is my response going to make me feel better and bring me peace? Keith Hanks is a retired Firefighter and EMT that dedicated 21 years of his life to the service of others. He serviced his community as a training officer, certified educator, and field training officer. Keith worked both inner-city EMS as well as fire. Like many in the first responder community the job has its cost. From childhood trauma, traumatic calls, the traumatic passing of his first wife and sexual abuse Keith has faced many trials and tragedies that resulted in self-harm, substance abuse, lies and multiple suicide attempts. After decades of damage Keith began to put the pieces of his life back together. Keith was diagnosed with Complex PTSI in 2015. The job, the service, his dedication caused this injury, and consequently his retirement. What PTSI didn't change was the love and devotion to his community and to his fellow first responders. Keith has since dedicated his life to advocating for mental illness, substance and alcohol abuse recovery, and suicide awareness. Since starting this mission Keith built an international support group through Facebook for First Responders and Veterans for PTSI and other job-related mental health issues. Keith was asked to be a part of the Deconstructing Stigma Project and has a Billboard that hangs in the International Terminal at Logan Airport in Boston MA. In March 2022 he completed the filming of his feature length documentary focusing on PTSI in the first responder community. Keith is a public speaker and soon to be published author. Keith's transparency in his own life has led him to share his story through social media and many other platforms to reach the most people he can. He is known for saying that his life goal is to reduce suicide in the first responder community through education, support resources and to make it OK to not be OK. Keith is currently a life coach and employed as the Director of Business Development for First Responder Coaching based in Massachusetts. He resides in New Hampshire with his wife and is the proud father to three incredible children.

Accidental Fentanyl Exposure Almost Took His Life and The Lives of Other Deputies. Thanks to Narcan and training they saved each other's lives. It did permanent damage to his health, his story and mission to help others.  Saving and rebuilding the lives of First Responders. For 24/7 Confidential Free Information call 833-776-1420. Shatterproof for First Responders at FHE Health. Jeff Brown has had a long and distinguished law enforcement career. An incident involving drug abusers caused him and his backup deputies to be accidentally exposed to Fentanyl. The effects on them were immediate, had it not been for the department-issued Narcan and training they received, they all might have perished. However, the exposure caused permanent injuries to his heart.  He talks about the incident, the recovery, his battles with Worker's Compensation, and the rarely talked about the crime problem in their tourist-driven resort area. Jeff also discusses his non-profit that helps wounded first responders, which is called the Hometown Heroes Alliance. Check out the Clubhouse: Drop In Audio Chat App for free. People who are positive and lift you up, not down. 2) Get physically active - No, you don't have to be in the gym for hours. Start with something easy - Like a brisk walk and build from there. 3) Learn new skills - Life is about continuing to grow and learn. 4) Giving to others - It can be as simple as your time. It can be as simple as giving your smile and positive attitude to others. 5) Pay attention to the present moment - This is essentially the core behind meditation. You will never get this moment back so live in it.   Stay tuned for more great guests on The CJEvolution Podcast www.cjevolution.com   Patrick

How To Operate On The Cutting Edge Of Physical & Mental Performance With Ryan "Birdman" Parrott Of The Human Performance Project.

BenGreenfieldLife.com/humanperformanceproject A few weeks ago, a guy named Ryan "Birdman" Parrott contacted me. In a nutshell, he said... "My sniper partner in the SEAL Teams took his life 3 years ago and I am tired of it. I know for a fact that there are plenty of brain treatment centers around the country but the military, first responder communities' leadership don't seem to care about their health, nutrition and sleep, so we are going to work with physicians, sports physiologists, and mental health experts to develop a simplistic manual that will showcase: 1) turning the ignition on so that kids who are starting to get athletic can understand how to create a baseline of correct fitness and how to get back to homeostasis (this also goes for brand new military members and first responders because they don't get taught human performance); 2) restarting the engine for the war fighter, career fire fighter and law enforcement, so that they can come out of their careers unfractured. This manual should and will discuss what to do on the flip side to reboot. I am not going to sit back and watch another war fighter take their own life because they are not being tended to after devoting everything that God has given to them to national security. I have run a successful non-profit for burn survivors called 'Sons of the Flag' for the past ten years and am now making this my number one focus to do my part... ...it's called The Human Performance Project... ...and I would love your advice on nutrition and supplementation as we begin this training and as we analyze our blood to give us all a better understanding of what it truly making us better. These are all war fighters on the team that will be training to pull this off and I am the youngest guy on the team, so we have our work cut out for us." So I decided to get Ryan on the show so that you can be educated on how to truly optimize performance, especially when you need to be on the physical and mental cutting edge. Ryan's Human Performance Project is designed to gain outcomes on human performance by testing supplements while training and looking deep into the DNA, physiology, and human spirit to create a docuseries along with a manual that supports all data-driven findings and proof of concept. Essentially pressing the reset button on a 20-year military veteran or first responder and starting the engine for the next generation to train, eat, sleep, diet, and live well. Ryan “Birdman” Parrott, is an Author, Public Speaker, Former Navy SEAL, Patent Holder, Action Sports Athlete, and Founder of two non- profits benefitting Veterans and First Responders is originally from Detroit, Michigan. Birdman enlisted in the Navy after watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11 and served eight years as a U.S. Navy SEAL attached to SEAL Team SEVEN, completing three combat tours to Iraq before being assigned to Advanced Training Command as an Instructor. In 2005, while serving in Iraq, Birdman was riding atop a Humvee manning the gun turret in enemy territory, when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED), causing a detonation and throwing him from the Humvee. Birdman regained composure with his face and hands burned and witnessed his fellow team members suffer devastating burn and blast injuries. While Birdman's burns were only first and second degree, his teammates suffered lifelong injuries. In 2012, Birdman established Sons of the Flag to help burn survivors and their families find the help and medical attention they truly deserve.  Now a sponsored athlete in the extreme sports arena, he has founded The Human Performance Project taking a deeper dive into health and wellness giving our next generation a better understanding on taking proper care of their bodies through physical, mental, emotional and spiritual guidance from world renowned experts in their fields. More info on the Human Performance Project is here. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Ryan's personal journey to the present day, and how he got the name "Birdman"... -Addressing a severely underserved segment of combat-sustained injuries through Sons of the Flag... -The Human Performance Project: what it is and who it serves... -The first 3 things someone should do when they want to take control of their health and fitness... -The first thing to do when you realize you're broken physically, spiritually and emotionally... -How one will feel when they attempt a hard-core cleanse... -Improving the overall sleep experience... -The system in the body that needs the most attention, and how to address it... -To what extent will improving your physical game improve your mental game?... -And much more!
