In this episode of The Southern Demonology podcast, your friendly neighborhood, ancient demonologist JJ is joined by Chris and Dean from the Wandering Road podcast to unravel one of the most infamous tales in paranormal lore: the story of Annabelle the haunted doll. Locked away behind glass in the Warrens' Occult Museum, Annabelle has terrified generations with claims of possession, violence, and demonic influence. Yet how much of the story is true and how much is a well-crafted narrative? Together, JJ, Chris, and Dean dive deep into the origins of the legend, the Warrens' involvement, and the cultural impact of this raggedy icon of horror. Is Annabelle truly a vessel of evil or simply an elaborate hoax designed to captivate and scare? Tune in for eerie tales, skeptical takes, and some unexpected laughs as the crew sorts fact from fiction in the haunting case of Annabelle.Get access to all episodes, contact information, and social links at https://www.southerndemonology.com#southerndemonology, #paranormalpodcast, #annabelle, #haunteddoll, #warrens, #occultmuseum, #paranormallore, #demonology, #skepticalparanormal, #horrorpodcast, #ghoststories, #wanderingroadpodcast, #truehorrorstories, #creepypodcast, #supernaturalinvestigation, #annabellehoax, #hauntedobjects, #demonicpossession, #raggedyann, #paranormaldebunking Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/southerndemonology. The subtitle may say "LAST Rites", but there's no way in hell I'll believe that... As long as there's money to make off of cheap paranormal jump scares, the Warrens can always return on screen. Enjoy, people.
Tonight, we're stepping into a world where the darkest corners of human nature collide with forces we can't quite explain. This episode is all about true crime cases that twist into the supernatural—murders, trials, and hauntings where the line between evil deeds and otherworldly influence blurs. We're diving into four chilling tales: the infamous Amityville Horror, Arne Cheyenne Johnson's “Devil Made Me Do It” trial, the unsolved Villisca Axe Murders, and the Smurl family's demonic ordeal. These aren't just campfire stories—they're real cases that left investigators, families, and entire communities grappling with questions no one can fully answer. Picture this: a man guns down his family, and the house he leaves behind becomes a nightmare of voices and apparitions. A brutal stabbing leads to a courtroom defense of demonic possession. An axe-wielding killer vanishes, but the echoes of his victims linger in a cursed home. A family fights an unseen tormentor for 15 years, claiming it's hell-bent on their destruction. We've got the gritty details—court records, witness accounts, and expert takes from cops, paranormal investigators, and skeptics alike. Is this just human horror with a spooky twist, or could something truly sinister be at play? “It was chaos, things started flying around, people were screaming.” In 1977, hot on the heels of the publicity they received after the Amityville Horror case – which is show in the cold open of the film – the Warrens claimed that they investigated the happenings in Enfield, undoubtedly drawn there by all the press the case was getting at the time. Before they even arrived at the Hodgson home, several independent observers dismissed the case as a hoax carried out by "attention-hungry" children, but the Warrens would, of course, state that it was a case of demonic possession.Have a question or comment? This is, of course, based on a true story. But how true is this story? Well, as you're just about to hear, NOT VERY. Truth, as they say, is often much stranger than fiction, but in some cases, you actually have to FIND the truth first. And when it comes to THE CONJURING – and with Ed and Lorraine Warren themselves – the truth is a very, very elusive thing.Have a question or comment? When Arne Cheyenne Johnson was arrested for murder in 1981, his shocking defense—that he was possessed by a demon—would lead to one of the most bizarre and controversial trials in American history.Darkness Syndicate members get the ad-free version. https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateInfo on the next LIVE SCREAM event. https://weirddarkness.com/LiveScreamInfo on the next WEIRDO WATCH PARTY event. https://weirddarkness.com/TVIN THIS EPISODE: The third Conjuring film is based on the true story of Arne Cheyenne Johnson who claimed he committed murder because a demon made him do it. But how much truth is there to that story? (The Devil Made Him Do It) *** A tribe living in the Amazon Jungle tells about a strange encounter they had with an extraterrestrial and a strange beam of light. (That Time An Alien Visited the Kayapo People) *** An elderly man decides he needs to hire someone to help him care for his property… but who he chose would bring only death and a mystery that still goes unsolved. (The Wonnangatta Station Murders) *** Lizard people. Reptilians. It's one of the strangest and most controversial conspiracy theories in existence – and we'll look at some of the history behind the idea, as well as what science says about the possibility of it being a reality. (The Myths and Modern Science of Reptilians) *** A nun who wasn't very good at being a nun ended up being a nun without a head. (The Headless Nun of Watton Priory) *** We've all been asked the question, “How do you want to die when it comes your time?” Aside from the boring but realistic answer of “quietly in my sleep” some would prefer to go out in a blaze of glory, doing something heroic to save a person or persons from imminent doom. But of course that does not happen for most of us. In fact, there are probably more people going out in a blaze of stupidity! (Dumbest Deaths) *** In 1995 Mike Marcum got it in his head to build a time machine. Did he succeed? We may never know – because he disappeared without a trace. Well, the 97th Academy Awards kind of snuck up on us this year. And while Kent has seen many of the nominees, most others haven't. That's why Baconsale is here. We're fulfilling our duty of giving you the skinny on a bunch of lackluster movies so you don't have to watch them, but you can still sound like an informed film geek around the water cooler. Joel, Kent, and Zack will explain why they're predicting each category winner, and they'll throw in a lot of architecture puns, too. And with Dylan's/Warrens on the line, the stakes have never been higher. Will A Complete Unknown become a household name? Will the Nickel Boys change Academy voters' minds? Will Wicked be green with envy? Does The Substance have the stuff to win? Will Anora escort some Oscars home? Will the Academy be kind to The Brutalist? Is Emilia Pérez el mal? Press play to discover the shocking truth. Oh, and we're also bribing you to listen. Visit Baconsale.com to fill out our official 2025 Oscars ballot for a chance to win a cinematic prize!
Welcome to CHUCKYVISION, a podcast about the horror franchise Child's Play/Chucky, the surrounding culture and other killer doll films. Mark and Dev find a new subculture of the haunted doll genre and it's mega-cheap British films. Dev didn't mean to highlight this when he picked four modern doll horrors for YOU the listener to choose in a poll, and Mark pointed out they were ALL British with cast, crew, and company crossovers within! The Curse of Humpty Dumpty is a 2021 haunted doll film that innovates the genre in that it's an egg clearly played by a man. It's also about dementia and weird Satanic cults. Note: Upon Mark remarking this is the worst film so far, Dev failed to bring up Annabelle which is somehow more boring than this and left a bad taste with the real-life Warrens and Manson stuff. Mark has since rescinded that comment. It's the final installment of the main Conjuring franchise (for now) and a case that tests the very limits... of Peter Safran and James Wan's ability to spin the Warrens' nonsense into a supernatural horror story. Can they take the tale of a guy who got drunk and committed manslaughter into a courtroom drama about demonic possession? Or will they have to cut away before the judge gets a single line? Find out in this installment of Half Price Horror!

Hoo boy. If you thought I was rough on James Wan's 2013 hit 'The Conjuring', you're probably not going to love this episode as I look at the even less true "true story" of the Warrens and their involvement with the Enfield poltergeist. But if you're someone who's thoroughly sick of Ed and Lorraine, this might be just the tonic you need.
Diamonds in the rough... but make it witchy and paranormal. This week, Liv and Amy are talking about some lesser known paranormal cases, featuring the Warrens and weirdly enough... the Pennsylvania Dutch. Directed by James Wan, The Conjuring is the supernatural horror starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren - paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Luke and Jason go back to the start of The Conjuring Universe franchise to revisit the inaugural first installment. In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. Though the manifestations are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.

You know how it goes—another day, another haunting! In this episode, things get seriously spooky as we dive deep into one of the most terrifying hauntings ever—The Smurl Family Possession! You've heard of haunted houses, but this demonic case from Pennsylvania is terrifying, malevolent and down right frightful. The Smurl Family was tormented by a dark, malevolent entity that took over their home, turning their lives into a nightmare filled with violent levitations, eerie whispers, and full-on attacks. The hauntings escalated and after blessings by the local priest proved insufficient, Janet Smurl sought the help of Ed and Lorraine Warren (yes, those Warrens from The Conjuring) to investigate. But even the famous demonologists couldn't guarantee safety in this possession saga that gets darker and more twisted by the minute. Will the Smurl family make it out of this haunting alive, or are they destined to battle demons forever? On a lighter side, we're also sharing some fun personal paranormal experiences, including our unplanned matching pajama moment (hello, one brain cell) and our witchy adventure at Deadwick's Emporium in Portsmouth, NH. From tea leaf readings by Jezmina, a Romani fortune-teller to creepy ghost tours of the town's haunted streets.
