We're headed to the beach on The Beer Hour this week! First up we'll speak with Brooke and Mike Malone of Walking Tree Brewery to hear all about their unique Vero Beach location, how they got their start, and what it was like to win a gold medal for their brew. Then 'Heal For Us' founder Nedal Ahmad joins the show to discuss the importance of Mental Health Awareness Month, his own journey with mental health and ways to stay social and active during tough times. Whether it's in the restaurant business or on the kickball field, community and support are important towards taking care of yourself.
In this episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Brooke Malone, one of the co-founders of Walking Tree Brewery, a beloved establishment located on the Treasure Coast of Florida. We start with the background and pathway of Walking Tree Brewery, exploring how the founders' passion for craft beer and community led them to start this unique establishment. From humble beginnings to becoming a well-known fixture in the area, we'll take a closer look at what makes Walking Tree Brewery so special. During our interview, we also touched on the recent Small Business Day at the Capitol event in Tallahassee, where Walking Tree Brewery and Small Biz Florida crossed paths. We discussed the latest legislative efforts to support craft breweries in Florida, and how it impacts small business owners like Walking Tree. -Learn more about Walking Tree Brewery - https://www.walkingtreebrewery.com/ If you're interested in hearing more about the inspiring stories of small business owners and entrepreneurs in Florida, be sure to subscribe to Small Biz Florida. Barry and Abigail discuss Conscious Party by Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers and sample Franz With Benefits, Daily Chores, Grass and Flower Series, Nitro Babycakes, and Your Roots Are Showing from Walking Tree Brewery in Vero Beach, Florida. Special thanks to Mike Malone, Head Brewer of Walking Tree Brewery, and his son JT, for sitting down with us to discuss the history of the brewery! Babycakes won gold in the oatmeal stout category at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival. JT met Ziggy Marley at a fundraiser for Ocean Research and Conservation, Inc. (ORCA), a Fort Pierce-based organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems and the species they sustain. The lyrics on this album are deeply steeped in the Rastafarian religion and the Wikipedia article on Rastafari is worth a read. Barry recommends The Imbalanced History of Rock and Roll's episode on Bob Marley & The Wailers: Kingston To The World. Up next… Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips, submitted to our Jukebox by Paul Zawacki. Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe. Laura is back in town! So we are taking a break from our current story and doing a Fan Fiction Theater episode! This first part is entirely made up of the Fan Fiction of Cassandra Claire and her Very Secret Diary series on the Lord of The Rings characters. Yes, this episode annoys JL and yes, Chris gets the actor who played Bilbo mixed up with Frodo, and yes no one knows how to pronounce any of the names...but it's still a good time. Featured beer: Walking Tree Brewery's Stay Frooted Sour. Podcast 42 is Christopher De Voss, JL Tross, Laura De Voss, and Sabrina Pierre

Welcome to another episode of the Florida Beer Podcast, as we prepare for another festival! This time it's the renown FemAle Brew Fest on March 21st. This one is notable as it only allows breweries with female ownership or female staff on the brewing team. Much to my delight, this festival has been growing in size for the past few years, and is now going to be held at the brand new Dania Point. We spoke to festival organizer Frances Antonio-Martineau about the history of the event and what to expect. We then spend most of our time in the delightful Vero Beach at the mettled and storied Walking Tree Brewery. I've written about them before, and it's funny to see how things have grown there. Literally, as the mangrove tree I saw on my initial visit is much, much larger now. I sat down with Co-founder and head brewer Mike Malone and his wife, Creative Director Brooke Malone to talk about the history of Walking Tree so far, craft beer in Vero Beach, and an awesome collaboration they just did with their local newspaper. Wednesday 6-13-18 Show #194: Walking Tree Brewery brings by some beer and Devin and James get a bit drunk, plus a new "Schooled", the kava craze, "News to Amuse", and we talk about those idiots who always hit REPLY ALL.
This episode is about driving traffic – butts in barstools. Specifically, the use of events in creating a compelling reason to come and visit. We are getting the perspective on this from two different breweries. Amanda Zivkovic is the Associate Brand Manager at Heavy Seas in Baltimore, MD. She assists in consumer promotion, tap room events and charity initiatives among other things. Our other guest is Amanda Martin with Walking Tree Brewery in Vero Beach, FL. Amanda is the Event Coordinator & Tasting Room Manager and one of the original team members of the Walking Tree Crew. She has been an integral part of developing the brewery as a highly sought-after event venue.
Host Brian Quain sits down with Mike Malone and Alan Dritenbas of Walking Tree Brewery as they discuss culture and the background of Vero Beach, what used to be the Los Angeles Dodgers spring training home. Brian and Jeff go the furthest south to find out how good these Florida Best Beer awards and Great American Beer festival award winner beers are. Who was Bill Murray playing baseball with before his obsession over the Chicago Cubs? Where else can rabbi's and pastors sit for good conversation and amazing beers? Where else can your brewers moderate Town Hall events for the elections for this week? It's all here and it's all amazing. Thanks to Daniel Rey for making this happen in the amount of time we had, we appreciate you guys so much. Listen! Enjoy! SUBSCRIBE!
We are trying something different in this episode! Our conversation will be between 3 of us. Today we have with us Mike Malone and Alan Dritenbas the founders of Walking Tree Brewery in Vero Beach, Florida. Their Florida roots are important to them, which is one of the reasons for the name “Walking Tree Brewery”. Mangrove trees live with one foot on land and one in the sea, constantly expanding their boundaries. I have spent significant time at the Walking Tree tasting room the past 2 months. They combine creativity with science to produce unique and delicious beers. In addition, they continually strive to develop a culture that is uniting their community.
