Marc happened upon this lovely clip of writers talking to Women's Hour about their writing tips and advice. Writers such as Prue Leith, Angie Thomas, Ruby Wax, Allison Pearson and Nina Stibbe talk about how to write and how they write, and how to write that book! Jenni and Marc pull out their highlights, what resonated with them, and also how Prue Leith manages to get her laptop into the toilets at cocktail parties (what if she needs a plug? Does she carry a rucksack? Does everyone else think she's just doing a massive poo? SO MANY QUESTIONS!). Find full show notes on our website

Candy Dulfer moderated this conversation with Lalah Hathaway, Lindsey Webster, Nadira Kimberly Scruggs and Honey LaRochelle about a range of topics, including how they got into music and jazz, as well as about their advice for young women entering the music business. They also addressed the issue of women being stereotyped as vocalists rather than instrumentalists in the world of jazz. Plus, they talked about a topic rarely discussed at any other panel. This episode is sponsored by the Detroit Jazz Festival. The Jazz Cruise Conversations podcast is produced by Entertainment Cruise Productions, the worldwide leader in music-themed cruises.
Topic: From Freud to many of our spiritual thought leaders, much has been written and said about the Ego. Since it’s time for the Women's Hour on Conscious Talk, why not take a look at the ego from the feminine perspective? This time on the Women’s Hour, the feminine focus falls on the Ego and its propensity for control and punishment.
What differences do women face when it comes to substance use, addiction, and treatment? We could not be more thrilled to speak to two very knowledgeable women:Jenny Valentish is a journalist and author originally from the UK who now lives in Australia. She's the author book 'Woman of Substances: A journey into drugs, alcohol and treatment'.Milly Chowles is a radio reporter and producer. Having worked on BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour, Milly has produced a series called 'The Fix' which gives personal insight into women in recovery. Both Milly and Jenny are so beautifully honest in this conversation, both of them having had their own experiences with addiction. It's interesting to hear about the differences in language and treatment options. This is truly a fascinating conversation. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Hopefully you listened to the recent BBC Radio 4 Women's Hour programme dedicated entirely to women's cycling, and set at the London Bike Kitchen. If you did, you will have heard LBK Director Jenni Gwiazdowski talking about their work teaching people to repair their own bikes - or maybe you've heard the Wheel Suckers' podcast Jenni runs with Look Mum No Hands' Alex Davis, which I was on that same day. You can imagine, being in the LBK space, and being on the podcast made me want to know a whole lot more - how and why did Jenni set up LBK in the first place, and what do they do? Why's she podcasting? What's her superhero secret origin story? There's only one way to find out - asking her! RHLSTP #19 - Mary Beard - Fattening Dormice. After last week's headline-grabbing show, Richard feels under pressure to coax revelations from his guest, classicist Mary Beard, but is a bit distracted by transport and atrocity based magazines. Instead he mainly talks about penises in Pompeii, realising that if only he could travel in time that he would be the most popular comedian in that knob-obsessed empire. But all the big historical questions are asked - why is Pan having sex with a goat? What did the people of Herculaneum use to wipe their bums? Where did Ancient Romans sleep? What were Julius Caesar's real last words? Is having sex with a statue the worst thing you can do? Mary also talks about Anus Arsehole Gill and how she fought back against the trolls, what words you can't say on Women's Hour and meeting the Queen with Bruce Forsyth. Back to normal then!SUPPORT THE SHOW!Check out our website and become a badger and see extra content http://rhlstp.co.ukSee details of the RHLSTP tour dates http://richardherring.com/gigsBuy DVDs and Books at http://gofasterstripe.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
