Last Chance For Fans To Join Sir Jack Brabham BRDC Memorial Motor racing fans still have the unique chance to join the Sir Jack Brabham Memorial event, hosted by the BRDC and organised by son David Brabham, at the Silverstone Wing from 2pm on Friday 24 October. Those wishing to attend must register for a ticket by this Friday, 17 October by contacting Deborah Jennings at deborah.jennings@brdc.co.uk or call 01327 850 925. The event is shaping up to be a fitting celebration of the triple Formula 1 World Champion’s remarkable life and outstanding contribution to motorsport, held in support of Kidney Research UK, with valued backing from Honda, Arbuthnot Latham and G.H. Mumm Champagne. Renowned F1 designer Gordon Murray, whose pioneering Brabham cars won 22 Grands Prix and two Drivers’ titles with Nelson Piquet in 1981 and 1983, will be joining Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Frank Williams, Sir Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Tony Brooks and Nick Goozée on stage to share their memories of the legendary driver and engineer. Those attending the event will have the opportunity to donate to Kidney Research UK in Sir Jack’s memory, while anyone can make a contribution to the charity via the official Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/SirJackBrabham Paul Oz, official licensed artist to James Hunt, Bruce Lee, Star Trek, Denis the Menace, Ali, Mr Men and Little Miss, and Thunderbirds, who has also created commissioned work for the Instituto Ayrton Senna and Jenson Button among many others, has also pledged his support to the event. His stunning portrait of Sir Jack will be on display and Paul will be selling official prints of the masterpiece to help raise funds for Kidney Research UK. Paul commented: “The Sir Jack Brabham portrait was created for my Singapore gallery show over the Formula 1 race week, I thought with poignant timing. With the high Australian contingent out there for the F1, it turned out more fitting than I’d ever have thought. It’s a privilege to be able to celebrate the life of a motorsport legend with what I do – but an absolute honour to be invited by David to be part of the memorial.” The Sir Jack Brabham Memorial has been made possible thanks to support from Honda, who powered Sir Jack to 12 out of 15 Formula 2 race wins while sealing the F1 and F2 titles in the same iconic year of 1966; Brabham’s private bankers Arbuthnot Latham; and Formula One Management, through its partnership with G.H. Mumm Champagne. David Brabham commented: “We are getting closer to what will be a fantastic event at Silverstone celebrating my father’s amazing career. Jack was instrumental to so many drivers, engineers and fans in the UK that this special event gives people the opportunity to come and pay their respects to a remarkable man at a racetrack he loved and did so well at. I would like to thank the BRDC and Silverstone for helping to organise and host the event, plus I do look forward to listening to the stories his compatriots will share with us.”

David Brabham - Goodwood Revival

David Brabham will make his long-awaited racing debut at the iconic Goodwood Revival meeting this weekend, 12-14 September. It’s astounding to think that in his extensive 30-year career the sportscar legend is yet to take on the historic 2.4-mile circuit in race conditions. The Le Mans 24 Hours victor and double ALMS Champion is relishing the opportunity to contest the St Mary’s Trophy races on Saturday and Sunday. He will drive the 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, hailing from the same year that his father Sir Jack, a regular Revival supporter, won the first Formula 1 World Championship in a rear-engined car, the Cooper-Climax T51. David commented; "I am really looking forward to racing at the Goodwood Revival and my first race at this historic track. It holds a special place for the Brabham family as my father, two brothers and I all had our very first UK race car tests at this iconic circuit. “I have heard so much about the event from my racing friends and I knew, when my schedule allowed, I should come and compete. It’s great to finally have that chance. I have not driven the Alfa Romeo Gulietta Ti before, but I am sure it will be a lot of fun.” Racing at 12.55 on Saturday and 12.40 on Sunday, David will join the crowd-pleasing line-up of fellow celebrity drivers, including Anthony Reid, Jackie Oliver, Mark Blundell and BTCC drivers past and present, all driving a stunning array of saloon cars from the Fifties.

Lord March has paid tribute to three-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Jack Brabham. Sir Brabham, whose 1966 world title made him the only driver to be crowned champion in a car bearing his own name, was a said to be a ‘great friend’ to Goodwood, having first forged links with the Motor Circuit following his decision to move from Australia to England to further his racing career. His first event at Goodwood Motor Circuit was in 1955 and he continued to race single-seater and sports car machinery right up to the point at which competition ceased in 1966, finishing third – behind Jim Clark and Graham Hill – in the last Formula 1 race held there in ’65. Goodwood was central to Sir Jack’s return to racing in 1998. He attended the Revival six times and raced several times during the early years, his highlight being fifth place – and second among the rear-engined F1 cars – in the Richmond and Gordon Trophy race of 1999 in a Cooper T53-Climax, at the age of 73. In 2004 he was the subject of the Revival’s driver tribute while four years later he made his final appearance at the event as part of a ‘Goodwood Greats’ parade. He also drove at eight Festivals of Speed, entertaining huge crowds with display runs in everything from a Brabham BT12 Indy car to an AC Cobra Le Mans Coupe.

Sam Brabham - Formula Ford - Race Win - Thruxton

Sam carved out his own piece of family history at Thruxton, Hampshire, this weekend, turning both first career pole positions into his first two Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship race wins in dominant lights-to-flag fashion while setting the Formula Ford lap record. An awesome start for round seven put Brabham clear of JTR teammate Jayde Kruger and able to extend a one second advantage over second placed Harrison Scott. But before the 20 minute race could get into a flow, a lengthy full course yellow came into force on lap three following Chris Mealin’s heavy off, from which he thankfully emerged OK. Managing the pressure of six laps circulating under the safety car while debris was cleared, Brabham made the perfect restart and remained unchallenged to take his long-awaited and much deserved first career race win. Brabham delivered another cracking start from the third row (reverse grid) for round eight to run fourth following a close opening lap dice with Scott and Ashley Sutton. In blistering form, the son of sportscar legend David Brabham posted the Formula Ford circuit lap record of 1:11.910 on lap five while embroiled in the fight for second. Although a move at the Complex didn’t quite pay off in the final stages, Brabham fought back to get important points for fifth. Back on pole for the third and final race of the weekend, the third generation driver once again nailed the start to lead Kruger and Scott from the first turn. Brabham never looked back, brilliantly managing the tyres and fuel consumption to notch up his second Formula Ford victory 0.6 seconds clear of teammate and current championship leader, Kruger. “This weekend has just been incredible, said Brabham. “We started off with two pole positions – the first of my career – and to get my first ever race win is just something so special and a day I’ll never forget. We got solid points in race two on the reverse grid and I’m really chuffed to have set the series lap record. “The last race was just fantastic. I was maintaining the gaps and pushing when I needed to. I had to think about the tyres, manage the fuel and back off where I could without losing too much time. It was the perfect race and now I’m aiming for more of the same at Oulton Park. Brabham’s outstanding Thruxton form retains sixth in the title fight, the gap to fifth now standing at just 14 points ahead of the next Oulton Park rounds.
