¿No me crees?

Leclerc, gracias a Verstappen

¿Recordáis la famosa frase “Fernando is faster than you”? GP de Turquía, 2010. Red Bull.

Is it possible to share the truth of the gospel with men and women in the armed services? How can people in the military hear about Jesus? Today's guest works for a vibrant and important mission agency that's working behind the wire on British military bases, sharing the love of Christ. John Surtees is the communications lead officer for the Soldiers' and Airmen's Scripture Readers Association (SASRA). On this edition we talk about how the Scripture Readers of SASRA are able to reveal God on Army and Air Force bases; how they bring the truth of God through ordinary ways and everyday conversations; and discuss how Scripture Readers support and work alongside Armed Forces chaplains and welfare officers, and how their presence is necessary and welcomed. John tells us about his time in the Royal Air Force and how God was very near during his time oversees; shares about how he was able to freely discuss his faith with the other men and women around him, and how that spurred him on when he returned to the UK. We hear some simple and practical ways that we can help both the families of those serving, and service personnel themselves. So stop by, listen in, and learn some new ways to bless those serving our countries. Presented by Sharon Tedford. Produced by Gary Dell. ¡En menudo charco me he metido! ¿Me ayudáis?

¿No te convenzo? Quinto: Superar a Rossi.

For over 50 years, renowned motor sport and aviation artist Michael Turner annually produced a set of paintings depicting stand-out moments from that year’s Formula One and sports car racing season. The paintings were reproduced as a set of Christmas cards and made available through Michael’s own company, Studio 88, which he formed in 1963. Over the years, these cards became highly-collectable to the extent that, in 1992, Michael’s wife, Helen, formed a Collectors’ Club which quickly gained a worldwide membership. Now, for the first time, the entire collection of cards produced between 1960 and 2016 is published together in the book, ‘The Michael Turner Collection’, written by Chas Parker in conjunction with Michael. The subjects range from heroes of the 1960s such as Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Graham Hill and John Surtees to modern day drivers including Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, and the tracks include classics such as Nürburgring, Spa, Monaco and Silverstone. Some sports car events such as the famous Le Mans 24-Hours are also included. The Collection provides a unique perspective on the post-war development of motor sport, with Michael’s attention to detail ensuring that the cars and circuits alike are recorded accurately and in a way that could not be captured in a photograph. In order to achieve this, during his career Michael travelled to most of the major Grand Prix circuits across the world. Here, Michael Turner talks with Steve Clarke about his new book and as an artist painting motorsport. It all started when Michael sat in Stirling Moss Cooper racing car in 1951!

John Surtees has a lot of fans. That much is clear from how many questions and good wishes were submitted when we announced we were recording a podcast with him. He's also amazingly sprightly and his memory is far better than mine. At the end of the podcast below I fired a completely random question to him about racing around the streets of Madrid in the late 1950s and within a matter of seconds he was into a story about the crowds and Francisco Franco sitting in a dangerous place. Astonishing. We talk through the 2016 Motor Sport Hall of Fame shortlist (below) and John gives his view on who he'd like to see victorious in each category. What's more, we take as many questions as possible. The shortlist, as voted for by you, is: Formula 1 – Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth, Gilles Villeneuve, Professor Sid Watkins, Sports cars – Derek Bell, Brian Redman, Pedro Rodríguez, Motorcycling – Joey Dunlop, Mike Hailwood, Valentino Rossi, Rallying – Richard Burns, Sébastien Loeb, Hannu Mikkola, US racing – Dan... Last Chance For Fans To Join Sir Jack Brabham BRDC Memorial Motor racing fans still have the unique chance to join the Sir Jack Brabham Memorial event, hosted by the BRDC and organised by son David Brabham, at the Silverstone Wing from 2pm on Friday 24 October. Those wishing to attend must register for a ticket by this Friday, 17 October by contacting Deborah Jennings at deborah.jennings@brdc.co.uk or call 01327 850 925. The event is shaping up to be a fitting celebration of the triple Formula 1 World Champion’s remarkable life and outstanding contribution to motorsport, held in support of Kidney Research UK, with valued backing from Honda, Arbuthnot Latham and G.H. Mumm Champagne. Renowned F1 designer Gordon Murray, whose pioneering Brabham cars won 22 Grands Prix and two Drivers’ titles with Nelson Piquet in 1981 and 1983, will be joining Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Frank Williams, Sir Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Tony Brooks and Nick Goozée on stage to share their memories of the legendary driver and engineer. Those attending the event will have the opportunity to donate to Kidney Research UK in Sir Jack’s memory, while anyone can make a contribution to the charity via the official Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/SirJackBrabham Paul Oz, official licensed artist to James Hunt, Bruce Lee, Star Trek, Denis the Menace, Ali, Mr Men and Little Miss, and Thunderbirds, who has also created commissioned work for the Instituto Ayrton Senna and Jenson Button among many others, has also pledged his support to the event. His stunning portrait of Sir Jack will be on display and Paul will be selling official prints of the masterpiece to help raise funds for Kidney Research UK. Paul commented: “The Sir Jack Brabham portrait was created for my Singapore gallery show over the Formula 1 race week, I thought with poignant timing. With the high Australian contingent out there for the F1, it turned out more fitting than I’d ever have thought. It’s a privilege to be able to celebrate the life of a motorsport legend with what I do – but an absolute honour to be invited by David to be part of the memorial.” The Sir Jack Brabham Memorial has been made possible thanks to support from Honda, who powered Sir Jack to 12 out of 15 Formula 2 race wins while sealing the F1 and F2 titles in the same iconic year of 1966; Brabham’s private bankers Arbuthnot Latham; and Formula One Management, through its partnership with G.H. Mumm Champagne. David Brabham commented: “We are getting closer to what will be a fantastic event at Silverstone celebrating my father’s amazing career. Jack was instrumental to so many drivers, engineers and fans in the UK that this special event gives people the opportunity to come and pay their respects to a remarkable man at a racetrack he loved and did so well at. I would like to thank the BRDC and Silverstone for helping to organise and host the event, plus I do look forward to listening to the stories his compatriots will share with us.”

Goodwood Revival Meeting 7th - 9th September 2018

A MAGICAL STEP BACK IN TIME The Goodwood Revival really is a magical step back in time, a unique chance to revel in the glamour and allure of motor racing in the romantic time capsule of the world’s most authentic motor circuit. Leave the ‘Modern World’ Behind The Revival is the world’s most popular historic motor race meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged entirely in the nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It is the biggest and best historic motor racing party of the year. The Revival offers visitors the opportunity to leave the ‘modern world’ behind and join motor sport luminaries including Sir Stirling Moss, Richard Attwood, John Surtees and Derek Bell in an unabashed celebration of flat-out, wheel-to-wheel racing around a classic racetrack, untouched by the modern world. Revival First-timers to Compete in Half-century Racers at the Sell-out 2013 Goodwood Revival Two famous names from the world of competitive cycling and motor racing will be taking to the Goodwood track in anger for the very first time at this year’s sell-out Revival (13-15 September) in two cars marking a combined century of motor sport. Celebrated cycling champion and Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy will be taking to the wheel of a Mini Cooper S for his inaugural race at Goodwood in the popular and hard-fought St Mary’s Trophy race for saloon cars. Challenging him for the chequered flag will be ex-Formula 1 driver and TV pundit Mark Blundell, who will also be competing at Goodwood for the first time, in a Lotus Cortina. Both the Mini Cooper S and Ford Lotus Cortina share their 50th anniversaries this year, so it seems only fitting that these two popular and fast-paced British saloon cars will be raced by two very rapid British racers, even if they are both new to the Goodwood Revival!

This week a London Grand Prix Special. Last week Santander and Mclaren pulled off a bit of a PR coup. They produced a very shiny video starring Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and a couple of hundred grands’ worth of computer graphics illustrating what a London grand Prix might look like. There’s a link to the video on the facebook page - facebook.com/matthewontheradio It’s brilliant So as the man who presents the only motor sport radio show on the only radio station for Central London Matthew is launching a campaign to bring Formula 1 to the streets of the most exciting, dynamic and diverse place to live work and study on the planet. So far it’s going rather well On tonight’s show Matthew asks Boris Johnson, Nigel Mansell, John Surtees and Steve Rider to join the campaign.
