Liam Lawson has had the keys taken off him at Red Bull and will complete the Formula 1 season with the franchise's Racing Bulls development team. He lasted two Grands Prix before management decided to replace him with Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda for his home event next weekend at Suzuka. The switch confirms widespread speculation. BBC Formula 1 correspondent Andrew Benson told Mike Hosking the line CEO Christian Horner is running about “duty of care” is them trying to dress the situation up as best they can. He says getting rid of someone after two races isn't duty of care by any stretch of the imagination, and instead, giving him a chance to try and perform better would be. Liam Lawson has officially been demoted from the Red Bull Formula One team. He lasted two Grands Prix before management decided to replace him with Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda for his home event next weekend at Suzuka. The switch confirms widespread speculation of a new partner for defending champion Max Verstappen. F1 Journalist Thomas Maher told Andrew Dickens that this is a risk for Red Bull, as if Lawson does well in the Racing Bulls car, the blame for his struggles in the big leagues will fall back onto the car. He says Yuki Tsunoda is a known quantity when it comes to racing, so answers about whether the car is to blame will be gained very quickly.
With 11 Grands Prix under his belt, Liam Lawson is technically no longer a rookie – but he is about to embark on his first full Formula 1 season in 2025 and race at many tracks he's never driven before. So how does the New Zealander feel about this next step with Red Bull Racing? Speaking to Tom Clarkson at the team's UK headquarters in Milton Keynes, Liam answers all the big questions ahead of a potentially career-defining year. What did Liam do to persuade Team Principal Christian Horner and Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko that he was the right man to replace Sergio Perez? How is he approaching the challenge of having four-time World Champion Max Verstappen as his new teammate? And, with five other drivers kickstarting their F1 careers this season, why does he think more teams are choosing youth over experience?

This week we delve into the curious case of Daniel Ricciardo. He once rode a horse into the paddock at Austin, but will not be lining up there in at this year's US Grand Prix - or any other Grands Prix - after being dropped by Red Bull. Daniel was one of F1's biggest fan favourites and an 8-time Grand Prix winner. But he's not been the same driver for a few years now. As always with F1, a sport all about technology and hardware, at the heart of this is a very human story. On this podcast we drill down into that story - what made Ricciardo special? And what went wrong? We hear from a Chief Engineer whose job was to develop Ricciardo for his big-time 2014 move to Red Bull Racing and from the Australian F1 TV host, who's known Daniel since his early days. With James in the studio are two top F1 journalists who covered Ricciardo's entire career, Autosport's F1 Editor Jon Noble and Chief motorsport writer Ben Hunt. Send your comments or questions to @jamesallenonf1 on X/Twitter or jamesallenonf1@autosport.com. Guests: Phil Charles, former Chief Race Engineer, Toro Rosso F1 team (now RB) Greg Rust, former Network 10 F1 Presenter A Motorsport Studios production for Autosport

Dan Prosser and Andrew Frankel discuss the extraordinary Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, won on the road by George Russell who was later disqualified for having an underweight car. They also look back at the first half of the season, which looked likely to be another Max Verstappen stat-padding year before rivals McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes caught up with the Red Bull powerhouse. With 10 Grands Prix still to come, the 2024 season now looks like being a vintage one. The best writers, the finest stories and no ads, all on The Intercooler's beautiful online car magazine. We're onto our 5th Grand Prix in 6 weekends; are you complaining!? At this weekend's 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, McLaren will be taking on Red Bull Racing in their den at the legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit. Max Verstappen has won 3 consecutive Grands Prix at Spa (yes, we're counting 2021 even though it wasn't really a Grand Prix!). Red Bull Racing-Verstappen have won the last races at Spa despite taking power unit related grid penalties. In fact, could this weekend's race be the "Power Unit Grid Penalty" Grand Prix? It wasn't too many years ago when McLaren took a 60 place grid penalty, but those were the days. These days, McLaren is now most-definitely the class of the field. But can they deliver a drama-free race? Mixed weather is expected on Saturday for Qualifying - let's hope McLaren's pit wall gets it right...after receiving sermons and team management lessons from everyone...including those who are nobody in Formula 1 (like us!). Also, is Ferrari in the right? Will the cooler temperatures bring Mercedes closer to McLaren-Red Bull Racing? While we will see the regular narratives play out, let's remember to enjoy the Spa Francorchamps this weekend - as a race circuit. They don't make circuits like the Spa anymore! And of course, Alpine might be set to lose their "works" status by signing up for Mercedes power units from 2025. Let's hope their race weekend management is as spot-on as their new superhero livery. F1 TV's lead voice and commentator Alex Jacques is our special guest on this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast. "What a problem to have for someone who has won 200 Grands Prix," said Alex Jacques, the guest on this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast. Soumil Arora and Jacques discussed with a lot of confidence that Maranello is where Newey will be headed to next...to work for Ferrari. "A great addition to his already fabled CV!" concluded Jacques. Liam Lawson passed his first Formula 1 exam with flying colours in 2023. His performances in Daniel Ricciardo's absence vindicated Red Bull's faith in the New Zealander and suggests we've not seen the last of him in an F1 car. ‘Frustrated' at not having a seat on the grid for 2024, Lawson is clearly very determined to return to the pinnacle of motorsport as soon as possible. He tells Tom Clarkson how he felt when receiving the call-up at Zandvoort, what he's learned from the five Grands Prix he raced in, why he wants to inspire young racers in New Zealand, his hopes for 2024, and much more.
