In Hypercar, Porsche won the race while staying on wets for the entirety. In GT3, McLaren took the win while switching to dry tires.F1 went to the temple of speed this past weekend, Monza, where Verstappen dominated Qualifying and the Race. The talk of the race though was a message delivered from the McLaren pit wall to instruct Piastri to "let Lando by". According to The Race, Mick Schumacher has turned down Cadillac's offer to become their F1 reserve and WEC driver. Currently racing in WEC with Alpine, the former F3 and F2 champion is also in talks with McLaren about joining their endurance team in 2027.

However, a mechanical failure leads to Norris retiring which is a big swing in the championship towards Piastri's favor as he now has a grand prix weekend's worth of points ahead of Norris.IndyCar wrapped its season up this Labor Day weekend in Nashville with a decently entertaining race that saw Josef Newgarden get his first and only win of the season which ends the nightmare of a season for Team Penske on a good note. It's been only a couple of days since the final race and silly season has begun with Will Power announcing he will not continue with Team Penske for 2026 and neither will Rinus Veekay at Dale Coyne Racing. The rumor is David Malukas will replace Will Power at Penske and Rinus Veekay will take Malukas' spot at AJ Foyt. Looking up and down the rest of the field, it seems like Will Power could move to Andretti as there is more chatter about Colton Herta making a move to F2 which would free up the #26 Andretti car.Chase Briscoe wins at Darlington which secures him into the next round of the playoffs.Coming up this weekend: WEC at COTA, F1 at Monza, and MotoGP at Barcelona.

Welcome back to another episode of Chasing the Apex! Today, we are sitting down with Alex Athanasiadis, the Vehicle Performance Lead Engineer for the Porsche Penske WEC program. Originally from Greece, Alex started his career as a Junior Performance GT3 Engineer with Callaway Competition in Germany. From there, he moved to a role as a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer with McLaren Automotive. In this role, he worked on the 720S-Spider, Elva, Senna GTR, and 765LT. Alex then spent some time as a freelance race engineer before joining Gordon Murray Design. During his time with the company, he led the vehicle dynamics attributes development on the T33, T50, and T50S. Alex then made a move to the United States, where he worked for the Dale Coyne team within the IndyCar Series. He served as a Performance Engineer for Takuma Sato and the Lead Race Engineer for David Malukas. SVG solidifies his playoff presence with his 3rd win of the season at Sonoma. Nate gives us his on the ground report from Dover where Denny Hamlin took the win there. Last but not least, we touch on the Brickyard 400 where William Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. comes out on top!IMSA is going to Road America this weekend but we recap their previous race at Mosport which had plenty of action! AO Racing claims their first LMP2 win and DragonSpeed take the win in GTDPro.Staying in the sportscar world, we also recap WEC's 6h of Interlagos. A race that went green for just about the entire way with only a couple VSCs or code 60s which was great to watch a race play out in its entirety that led to not only Cadillac's first win in Hypercar but their first 1-2 as well! Lexus takes their first LMGT3 win too!IndyCar had 4 races in the past 3 weeks where two drivers split the wins - Pato and Palou. Impressive drives by Kyffin Simpson, Christian Lungaard, Rinus Veekay, and David Malukas over the course of these past few rounds as well. After all the racing that did happen, it's looking more and more likely that Palou will indefinitely take his 4th IndyCar championship. He could even clinch the title after this next race at Portland.Formula 1 went to Spa this past weekend where once again we had rain. This time was not as severe as 2021 and we were able to go racing after a delay but the response after the race was one that drivers thought they could've gone racing a bit sooner. In the end, they played it safe and McLaren was able to secure a 1-2 with Piastri ahead of Norris. F1 heads to Hungary this weekend before they take their traditional summer break.Coming up this weekend: NASCAR at Iowa, IMSA is at Road America, and F1 is at Hungary.

Aunque vamos a estar dos semanas sin Fórmula 1 (en los circuitos, que las carreras ahora son en los despachos), el fin de semana estuvo bien animado con el WEC en Brasil y, sobre todo, las dos carreras de la Indy en el oval corto de Iowa, con victorias de O’Ward y de Palou. Y el próximo fin de semana tampoco nos quedaremos sin competición: viajamos a Estonia para el Rally de casa de Tänak. La gran atracción del fin de semana. El Rally de Estonia, a falta de Fórmula 1, será la atracción del próximo fin de semana - aunque también tendremos IndyCar, que está trepidante. Esta es una de las pruebas más rápidas y técnicas del calendario. Sus características incluyen tramos de tierra con secciones muy rápidas, saltos espectaculares y una superficie que exige máxima precisión. El recorrido se extiende durante tres días e incluye tramos que superan los 20 kilómetros, lo que obliga a pilotos y equipos a afinar la estrategia y, sobre todo, la gestión de neumáticos. Las gomas más utilizadas serán las blandas, ideales para sacar ventaja en una superficie que puede degradarse rápidamente. En cuanto a los protagonistas, se espera una intensa lucha entre los grandes nombres de la categoría reina y, sobre todo atención a los equipos oficiales, que han preparado evoluciones específicas para este rally. La incógnita estará en la adaptación de los pilotos a las condiciones variables del terreno, donde la experiencia previa puede marcar la diferencia… aunque teniendo en cuenta el cambio de gomas de este año, todo puede pasar. Mientras tanto, en Estados Unidos,… La IndyCar nos dejó un fin de semana espectacular en el óvalo corto de Iowa con dos carreras vibrantes. En la primera, Pato O’Ward logró una victoria memorable en su 100ª participación en la serie, superando al gran favorito, Josef Newgarden, que había liderado 232 de las 250 vueltas. Una parada en boxes perfecta y dos reinicios controlados permitieron al mexicano imponerse por solo 0,235 segundos, logrando el triunfo más ajustado en Iowa desde 2007. Esta victoria cortó la racha de Penske en el circuito y dio a Arrow McLaren y Chevrolet su primer triunfo del año. La anécdota, el hijo de Dixon que quería que ganara O’Ward, posando con el mexicano y su trofeo. En la segunda carrera, Alex Palou volvió a demostrar por qué es el gran dominador de la temporada. Favorecido por una bandera amarilla en el momento justo (pero claro, hay que estar ahí), el piloto español aprovechó la estrategia de Ganassi (que también fue muy buena con Dixon, que terminó segundo y le dio un doblete al equipo) y se llevó su séptima victoria en doce carreras, un registro histórico que no se veía desde 1994. Con este resultado, Palou amplía su ventaja en el campeonato a 129 puntos sobre O’Ward y se consolida como el máximo favorito para revalidar el título. Contrastes. Newgarden, que parecía imbatible en Iowa, terminó frustrado y fuera del top 5 debido a la estrategia y a la mala suerte con las banderas amarillas. Las dos carreras dejaron incidentes notables, como los accidentes de Kirkwood, Herta y McLaughlin, además de problemas mecánicos para Power. Eso sí, como siempre en este óvalo tan pequeño, hubo mucho espectáculo. El campeonato sigue vivo, aunque cada vez más inclinado hacia Palou, que busca entrar en la historia con récord de victorias y títulos consecutivos. La próxima cita será el próximo fin de semana en tierras canadienses, en Toronto, donde el español ya sabe lo que es ganar. Welcome to our motorsports podcast where we discuss F1, IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR, our own racing adventures, and some other adventures!This one is for the older guys - Nico Hulkenburg, Scott Dixon, and Shane Van Gisbergen show the younger guys it can still be done!Although both McLaren drivers dominated the British GP with Lando taking the win, it was Nico Hulkenberg who made the headlines as he scored his first career F1 podium finish after starting 19th on the grid! It was a wet and wild grand prix that tested the strategists to their limits. The experience and good timing from the Sauber pit wall helped launch Nico far up the grid to grab the team's first podium since Kamui Kobayashi at Suzuka in 2012.Indycar went to Mid-Ohio where it was the Chip Ganassi show by the end of the race. Alex Palou leading within the final 10 laps and Scott Dixon behind after saving fuel to make a two stop strategy work from starting 9th on the grid. With the laps winding down, Palou makes a rare mistake by going wide and off the track slightly which slowed him up enough that Dixon was able to capitalize and get ahead of Palou for the eventual win! Dixon is the third race winner for this season but this win now makes it 21 consecutive seasons with a win for Scott Dixon!NASCAR was at the park in the windy city of Chicago. SVG dominated the weekend in not just the Cup series but in Xfinity as well. This is two wins in the season for SVG now which moves him up in the standings for the playoff picture.Coming up this weekend: NASCAR at Sonoma, IndyCar is at Iowa for a double header, IMSA is at Mosport, and WEC is at Interlagos.

#519 The Car The Campsite & the Pit Lane. Part 1 of our coverage of the 2025 24 Hours Of Le Mans. We make the journey to La Sarthe in the fascinating INEOS Grenadier and settle in at Team Langoustine's camp site at Tetre Rouge to watch Hyperpole, and enjoy a pit walk.

Si la F1 y MotoGp corriesen juntos en Montmeló, los monoplazas estarían doblando a las motos en 3 vueltas. Si la F1 y los Hypercars de resistencia corriesen juntos en Spa-Francorchamps, los monoplazas estarían doblando a los Hypercars en la quinta vuelta. Si la F1 y la Indycar corriesen juntos en el Circuito de las Américas, en 16 vueltas los F1 estarían doblando a los F-Indy. ¿Por qué los F1 son tan ENDIABLADAMENTE rápidos? Te vamos a contar esto… y algunos “secretillos” de la F1. Os voy a contar porque los F1 son tan rápidos, pero antes os quiero demostrar que, realmente, son rápidos, muy rápidos. 4 contra 2. Nos vamos a Montmeló, uno de los pocos circuitos que comparten motos y coches. Para abrir boca, te doy unas cifras: El récord en coche lo tiene todavía Schumacher, desde 2006, con un tiempo de 1:14:637. El de motos, que caerá este año, lo mantiene Aleix Espargaró desde 2023, con un tiempazo de 1:28:686, es decir, Michael rodó algo más de 14 segundos más rápido. Pero comparemos la vuelta rápido en carrera de la F1 de 2025 contra la de Moto GP de 2024, pues en el momento de escribir este guion no se ha disputado la prueba de 2025. En este caso es de 1:39:664 de la MotoGP contra el 1:15:743 de la F1… ¡casi 24 segundos más rápidos! Como os decía, al comienzo de la 4ª vuelta los F1 estaría comenzarían a doblar a las MotoGP. Hypercar vs. Fórmula 1. En el espectacular circuito belga de Spa-Francorchamps se disputan carreras de F1 y del WEC o “Campeonato del Mundo de resistencia”. En 2024 la vuelta rápida de los Hypercars fue de 2:06:459 mientras en la F1 fue de 1:44:701… es decir, los F1 fueron 21:758 segundos más rápidos… como decía al comenzar en la 5ª vuelta los F1 estarían doblando a los Hypercars. América contra el Mundo. Hay un circuito donde compiten los coches de la Indycar y los F1: El Circuito de las Américas en Austin, Texas. Ya sabéis que la Indycar se disputa en circuitos ovales y ruteros. La vuelta rápida en este circuito, sobre un Fórmula Indy, la tiene nuestro piloto Alex Palou en unos increíbles 1:43:171 segundos… en realidad son 1:43:1709, poque la Indy se mide a la milésima. La vuelta rápida de la F1 es de 1:37:330 segundos, es decir unos 6 segundos más rápidos. En este caso los F1 necesitarían 16 vueltas para doblar a los Indycar. Ahora que ya sabemos y os hemos demostrado que son más rápidos, veamos los motivos. Y para eso, echemos un ojo a los reglamentos y dejamos para el final al de la F1. MotoGP: Solo dos ruedas. La mayor desventaja de las MotoGP respecto a un F1 es evidente: Solo tienen dos ruedas. Esto hace que tengan que inclinarse para tomar las curvas y limitan sus posibilidades aerodinámicas y de neumáticos. Hypercars: Híbridos y con tracción total. Como los F1, los Hypercars con híbridos, pero tiene la potencia limitada a 690 CV, sumando la potencia de la unidad térmica y el motor o motores eléctricos. Frente a la F1 tienen una ventaja importante: En según qué condiciones, dependiendo sobre todo de la velocidad, los motores eléctricos aplican su potencia a las ruedas delanteras lo que convierten a estos coches en tracción total, una ventaja importante respecto a un F1. Fórmula Indy: Todos iguales. Hay que tener en cuenta una base de partida: La F1 pretende ser una Campeonato a nivel Mundial que sea el escaparate tecnológico y banco de ensayos para las marcas… ese espíritu se ha ido perdiendo con reglamente cada vez más restrictivos, pero la idea original era esa. La Fórmula Indy pretende dar espectáculo y aumentar la igualdad, de forma que los pilotos marquen la diferencias y que las carreras sean más entretenidas. Por eso el reglamento es casi de copa monomarca, con el mismo chasis Dallara para todos. La Fórmula 1: Categoría reina. A la F1 siempre se la ha denominada “Categoría reina” del Mundo del Motorsport y para mí, con razón. Parto de la base de que siempre sigo que, para mí, en la actualidad, el reglamento es demasiado restrictivo lo que merma el ingenio y las ideas de los ingenieros. Recordad que la F1 ha dado lugar a coches con 6 ruedas, al uso del Turbo, al empleo de motores de turbina, sistemas de tracción total, llevó a la aerodinámica y al “efecto suelo” a su máxima expresión, planteó coches con doble chasis con suspensiones electrónicas, aspiradores que pegaban el coche a suelo… y solo por citar algunas “ideas originales” de ingenieros, en ocasiones propias en otras, mejoras de sistemas que ya existían. Su mayor ventaja es La aerodinámica, que marca la diferencia. No hace falta ser un “as” del inglés para saber que “Downforce” significa “fuerza hacia abajo” y es el peso aparente que genera la aerodinámica en un coche, en este caso de un F1… te vas a sorprender. Si te digo que hay muchas fuentes con datos no siempre fiables y que es un dato que cambia de coche a coche y de año a año.

Semana de descanso en la F1, pero con una muy buena actividad en la Indy, preparando ya las 500 millas de Indianápolis con la antesala del Indy GP. Además, el fin de semana pasado vibramos con las 6 horas de Spa del WEC y, especialmente, Iván Fernández quien estuvo allí viendo en primera persona la prueba y dándonos a todos una gran envidia. De todo lo que ha pasado y lo que se avecina tenemos cumplida información en los dos episodios de esta semana del Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1. Segundo triplete del año. Esta semana tenemos F1 y la primera de las carreras de otro triplete compuesto por Ímola, Mónaco y España. En el caso de Ímola, se espera un aluvión de mejoras, quizás las más grandes de la temporada, así que habrá que estar muy atentos a la técnica y quién es el que más avanza y quién menos. ¿Serán capaces de llegar al nivel de McLaren? De momento, con el primer trimestre de la temporada terminado, nos internamos en la temporada europea, que empieza en Italia (Ímola, en el circuito Enzo e Dino Ferrari) y termina en Italia (el 7 de septiembre, en Monza). Esta es la parte de la temporada en la están la mayor parte de las carreras consideradas “clásicos”. Debutante en Ímola. En el país natal de Pirelli - y el país que más rondas del Campeonato de F1 ha acogido en la historia - debuta el nuevo compuesto C6, el más blando de la gama. Homologado para su uso en circuitos que menos exigen a los neumáticos, el C6 podría proporcionar aún más agarre en una vuelta rápida, sobre todo porque la superficie de Ímola es menos abrasiva que la media. Ya estuvo disponible en Baréin, para los tests, pero ningún piloto llegó a usarlo. Eso sí, es difícil imaginar que vaya a usarse en una tanda de carrera, pero seguro que lo vemos bien usado en las clasificaciones de Ímola, Mónaco y Montreal (la única carrera fuera de Europa que veremos en la F1 este trimestre). La verdad es que los compuestos más duros funcionaron mejor el año pasado, ofreciendo un rendimiento muy constante, con una degradación limitada, a pesar de que la temperatura de la pista superó los 50 °C. Cómo afectará a la estrategia. Así que será interesante ver si el hecho de usar compuestos un paso más blandos que el año pasado tendrá algún efecto sobre los resultados y las estrategias - recordemos que el año pasado se hizo una carrera a una sola parada como estrategia más competitiva. Por otra parte, sólo hay una zona DRS, con pocas oportunidades de adelantamiento en el resto del trazado, a lo que se suma que el pit lane es el más largo del calendario en términos de tiempo. Todos estos factores se combinan para hacer de la parada única una tradición obligatoria en este circuito. Además, debido a las limitadas oportunidades de adelantamiento, la clasificación juega un papel importante, al igual que encontrar la estrategia de carrera adecuada.
