In this episode of the UKMotorTalk Podcast we welcome back Jules McBride to update us on driving in the first two rounds of the Britcar Endurance Championship. Jules also introduces us to Elliott Fewster, 2025 BTRDA Junior Rallycross Champion and currently driving in the 750MC Swift Sport Challenge, who he is mentoring as part of the FIA's disability in motorsport programme. For more:https://ukmotortalk.co.uk/2026/05/podcast-elliot-fewster-2025-btrda-rallycross-junior-champion-with-jules-mcbride/AI Episode summaryTribute to Alex ZanardiThe episode begins with a somber tribute to Alex Zanardi, who passed away at the age of 59. The hosts and guests describe him as an "absolute legend" and a deeply inspiring figure in the world of motorsport. His death was reportedly linked to injuries sustained in a handcycle accident involving a lorry, a trauma from which he never fully recovered.Jim reflects on Zanardi's racing career, noting that while his Formula One stints—including periods with Williams, Lotus, Minardi, and Jordan—were somewhat unsuccessful, he truly "found his feet" in IndyCar. His aggressive and raw racing style was perfectly suited to that series, highlighted by his famous overtake at the "Corkscrew" at Laguna Seca.Beyond his professional racing, the group discusses Zanardi's incredible resilience following the accident that cost him both legs. He transformed his life, becoming a gold-medal-winning Paralympian and even finding success at Brands Hatch and in touring cars. Jim recalls meeting Zanardi, noting his "beaming smile" and infectious positive attitude. Even when asked about the fear of crashing again, Zanardi joked that it was now easier to reattach his legs since he carried a "spare pair" and a screwdriver in his van .Jules' Success at Oulton ParkThe focus then shifts to Jules' recent performance in Round Two at Oulton Park, which he considers his favorite UK track. Jules explains the technical challenges of his class, where he competes against Ginettas, McLarens, Astons, and Porsches. Because his car cannot match the cornering ability of some of these rivals, the series uses "Balance of Performance" (BoP) measures, such as adjusting pitstop times, to level the playing field.Jules credits his success to consistency and the "age-old adage" that to finish first, one must first finish. Unlike the "carnage" of Round One, the driving standards at Oulton Park were much improved. He describes a thrilling final 15 minutes of the race, scrapping "three abreast" into Cascades corner . A late safety car allowed his tires to cool, giving him the grip needed for a final push. He ultimately finished fourth overall and third in class, earning a podium and the "Driver of the Weekend" award.Racing with DyspraxiaA significant portion of the episode is dedicated to Elliott's experience racing with dyspraxia. He describes how the condition affects his coordination and processing speed, noting that it takes him longer to prioritize information. As a child, he was even scared of driving a manual car because he feared it would be too difficult, admitting he cried when he first tried at age 11.However, Elliott explains that once his helmet goes on, he enters a state of "hyperfocus". Everything else disappears, and he is entirely focused on the task at hand. Mike, who also has dyspraxia, shares a similar experience from a helicopter flight where intense concentration allowed him to overcome his usual coordination issues. Elliott notes that while he has to work harder than the "average" driver to process information, his success proves that it is possible to excel in motorsport with the condition. He cites Bobby Trundley as another successful driver with dyspraxia and autism. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Send us a textWelcome along to another episode of the Agegroup Multisport Podcast. On this episode, we speak to Andy Holliday, Gb age group triathlete and duathlete.Andy states "Previously had done marathons and other running events and before that had done a lot of time trials and road races and mtb events.I started multisport at the London Duathlon in Richmond in 2018, and got a reasonable result, like I finished mid-pack but it was enough to raise the idea of what was possible. My brother was at this time competing in Ironman events and mentioned the age-group with British Tri. A bit of investigation and it seemed like a possibility. Next event was Oulton Park a qualifier. While I was outside of qual time I was close enough to start to think it was possible. Next up was Stockton Duathlon and on a grim day I bagged a spot on the age-group team. Then COVID hit and my event was repeatedly postponed before finally getting to compete at Aviles. That was a mental journey almost not going 2 weeks before as I believed I wasn't good enough etc. classic imposter stuff. First experience of AG team was amazing, loved the event the race the build up wandering around the town seeing other athletes in GB kit. This year I had qualified for Vichy in Standard Triathlon, got there in the best shape I had been in, super confident of being able to deliver a great performance. Unfortunately my race lasted less than 3 minutes due to a cold shock panic attack in the water. Really interesting about how this impacted me and rather than throwing me off has provided greater motivation to compete.Qualified again last year for Middle Distance and Standard Duathlon for the upcoming Pontevedra, also aiming for the cross duathlon qualification. The big goal is the Zofingen Long Distance in Sept 2025. Also maybe a half and marathon PB as well. Outside of triathlon I am a performance and leadership coach and work a lot with talking about how the mind impacts performance either positively or negatively and how to harness this."Really interesting to chat about his mental issues and how he has worked them through.hope you enjoy his journey.you can follow Andy on Instagram @andyholladay1you can vote for us using this link https://www.sportspodcastgroup.com/shortlist-category/You Can Follow us  onYouTube - AMP GB Instagram @amp_1967X : agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook : AMPGBfind all our episodes on our websiteWebsite is : https://agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com/email: agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comIf you are an agegroup athlete and would like to come on the pod, get in touch.

On this episode we have the pleasure to chat to Anne Dockery. Truly inspirational story that Anne shares after listening to several of our other podcasts and being inspired herself to get in touch and share her journey.Anne Says "I started running when I was 55 as I had been a heavy smoker and I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Had just married an American who suggested I run to strengthen my lungs. So I did and that was the start of an amazing adventure. I ran many local races and did quite well. Runners in Florida turn to triathlons in the hot summer months and I was persuaded to tackle my first triathlon when  I was 63. On my husbands huge bike and being terrified of the swim in the lagoon. But I survived and even won my age group. My coach was a lady of 70+ and she is still doing triathlons. It was wonderful in the warmth of Florida and I tackled quite a few fun events but I dreamt of representing GB. Whilst visiting my mum in Yorkshire I decided to find a triathlon and the only one I found was a British championship race at ST Neots. I bought a wetsuit that week and tried it in an indoor swim pool and thought I would die! At st Neaots I had a lot of issues but I got into the water and I managed to get out of the water having felt like a minnow amongst the tarpon when the 40 year old men came by!! I could hardly haul myself out of the river and wondered how on earth I would get on my bike. I had an audience cheering me on as I tried to extricate myself from the wetsuit…took 7 1/2 minutes!  I was frozen solid on the bike ride and the bike I hired was far from ideal. I was needless to say, next to last! But I would not have missed this race for anything. So thrilled to have finished. It was my 65th birthday the next day,.My next attempt was a little more successful. I wanted to qualify for the Worlds sprint triathlon in Mexico 2017 as it was a quick flight from Florida so I headed to the Dorney Sprint Triathlon May 2016 qualifier . This time I had friends to support me. What a difference. I was last out of the swim: again the hired bike left a lot to be desired but I ran well and came second in my age group .  So I qualified!!!Back in Florida I went to masters swimming twice a week  in hopes of improving. 10/10 for trying! However was forced out of the swim in Mexico 2017 . I knew I was going slowly but was perfectly capable of keeping on to the end so was spitting mad when they told me I had to come out. I was allowed to finish the course which brought other benefits and ,later, I learnt the currents had changed and were becomingb dangerous. Hence my removal, along with a few others. I would not have missed this wonderful experience for anything. Back in UK in 2018 I discovered Duathlons. I qualified at Oulton Park duathlon in april 2018 and found my self heading to Worlds in FYn …I had bought a new bike and booked with Nirvana and off I went in July. I did not know anyone! But in short time I had a whole new family of friends. The joy of being with lots of wonderful like minded people. I had no expectations . Long story short…no one was more amazed than me when I WON!! WOW!! What an amazing moment . Still get shivers down my spine. From  there I went on to come 4th in the Sprint duathlon in Targu Mures in 2022 because I ran an extra lap! The winner lapped me on the bike although we were neck and neck on the first run.  My next task was to get better on the bike and I am still working on that.I then turned to Standard Duathlons and came 3rd in 70-74 in Bilbao behind two amazing athletes, Elspeth Knott and Yvonne Twelvetree .In 2023 I hit the big time again in Standard duathlon age group 75 -79 winning the Europeans and once again winning Worlds. Hard to believe. 2024. I have qualified for the European Standard in Portugal but best of all I am goingb to Malaga to have a shot at actually finishing a sprint

Rich returns from Oulton Park and joins Jim in discussing the action from Jerez. The Ducati armada was torpedoed by KTM as Miller and Binder had fantastic races. Binder won the Sprint and Pecco won the Sunday main event. Both races were stopped on the first lap as a result of crashes that caused the stewards to hand out some outrageous penalties. The Moto2 race was won by Sam Lowes in a runaway and Pedro Acosta rode to a level headed second place and now leads the championship. Moto3 was the usual barn burner of a race as Ortola doubled up by winning again. His two wins on the trot move him up into title contention.
