#502 Meet Coach Lauren Brown   Welcome Welcome to Episode #502 of the 303 Endurance Podcast. We're your hosts Coaches Rich Soares and April Spilde. Thanks for joining us for another week of news, coaching tips and discussion.   We are back after being away at USAT Nationals in Milwaukee and TriDot Pool School in Tempe, Arizona.   April, how was it coaching swimming on the Sun?   Rich, I might as well be walking on the sun, LOL! I remember I texted you and Coach La that I was living in Satan's butthole the past couple of days. I thought I was going to melt a couple of times. But seriously, even though it was hellfire hot, I had an incredible time and I can't wait to unpack that later in the show.   Show Sponsor: UCAN UCAN created LIVSTEADY as an alternative to sugar based nutrition products. We had an improvement rate 15% across the board. Coach Dennis Hetland and I had the privilege of running Lane 3 – Aim High! – and we say remarkable results in both dropping stroke counts and smashing the 100-yard benchmark.   I want to give a special shout-out to Coach Gene Deyoe who was in my lane. Coach Gene dropped two strokes from his 25-yard distance, and 11 seconds off his 100-yard time! He had such a great attitude and always appreciated the feedback we gave. He was a joy to coach.   Second, we had Jay Camp, Coach Chad Rolf's athlete, in our lane and he was a hoot to work with! I especially enjoyed his dry sense of humor–very much like Coach Chad. He was also very receptive to feedback and his results showed how much work he put into his Functional Freestyle. He reduced his stroke count by 4 for 25 yards which is massive! Think about all that energy he will save because of his efficiency in the water! Get this, he shaved 29 seconds off his 100-yard benchmark. I was blown away by his improvements. He winked at me and told me not to tell his coach, which I promptly did LOL! Can't wait to hear how his new zones treat him after that incredible improvement.   Finally, the last thing I'll share is that even though it was hotter than hell on deck, we had some of the best lifeguards. They would come around every 20 minutes or so with buckets of cold water with rags that we could put on our heads and necks. It kept me from being a heat casualty for sure as the temps reached 114 degrees. So again, thank you to the McClintock Pool Lifeguards for coming in clutch last weekend! You made our pool school a huge success!    USAT Nationals Update: Milwaukee transformed into the epicenter of multisport excellence as it hosted the 2025 USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships. Thousands of amateur athletes from across the country descended on the city to compete, connect, and celebrate the sport we love. Race Highlights The action kicked off Friday with an open water swim in Lake Michigan, open to all registrants. Saturday brought the Olympic Distance National Championships, featuring a 1,500m swim, 40k bike, and 10k run. Athletes raced through Milwaukee's scenic lakefront, crossing the iconic Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge and finishing in Veterans Park [1]. Sunday was slated for the Sprint Distance Nationals and Paratriathlon Championships, but heavy overnight rain led to the cancellation of the sprint race for safety reasons [1]. Despite the disappointment, many athletes expressed gratitude for having raced earlier in the weekend. One athlete shared on Facebook: “Grateful I got to race yesterday. The stitches and bandaging got me through great. Heat, humidity, and wind were the factor yesterday, not the ankle wrap.” Yes, you heard that right—this athlete raced with stitches, tetanus, and antibiotics after a pre-race injury involving a bike and a hotel room. Talk about grit and determination! Celebration of Sport Gala & Hall of Fame Inductions Thursday night's Celebration of Sport Gala, hosted at Discovery World, was a moving tribute to the spirit of triathlon. The event honored the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame Class XIII, which included: Colleen Cannon – 1984 Nice World Champion and founder of Women's Quest. Graham Fraser – Race producer and visionary behind Ironman North America. Ellen Hart – 18-time World Age Group Champion and Ironman podium regular. Paul Martin – Paratriathlon legend and author who turned adversity into triumph. Kenny Souza – Duathlon pioneer and charismatic ambassador of the sport [2] [3]. Here's a breakdown of the 2025 USA Triathlon Hall of Fame inductees and their connections to Colorado: Colleen Cannon Lives in Boulder, Colorado. After retiring from professional racing, she founded Women's Quest, a Boulder-based adventure retreat company focused on empowering women through outdoor activities and wellness. She was inducted into the Boulder Sports Hall of Fame in 2017 [1]. Ellen Hart Lives in Niwot, Colorado, and previously served as First Lady of Denver during her marriage to former Denver Mayor Federico Peña. She is a longtime Colorado resident, Harvard graduate, and University of Colorado Law School alum. Hart has been a prominent figure in the Colorado endurance community and was inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame [2]. Final Thoughts Milwaukee once again proved why it's a favorite host city for USA Triathlon. From the scenic course to the passionate community, the weekend was a celebration of perseverance, excellence, and camaraderie. After years of competing in the figure and bodybuilding world, she found her way into multisport through duathlon in 2018 and transitioned to triathlon in 2019. She now races across sprint, Olympic, and 70.3 distances, with 70.3 being her favorite. As the Grit2Greatness Ambassador Program Manager, Lauren will lead the charge in building a vibrant community of athletes who proudly represent G2G—at races, on social media, and in everyday moments that matter. She's here to empower you, connect you, and help each of you feel even more supported on this journey. Lauren, we are beyond excited to have you on board Questions for Lauren: Two Truths and a LIe Icebreaker: I danced on stage with Brittney Spears, I once got lost on a training ride and ended up in a different state; Before being an endurance athlete, I competed as a pro with the International Federation of Body Builders Where did you grow up and where do you call home? Tell us about your athlete journey? Tell us about your coach journey? Your vision for the G2G ambassador program? When I think about the Grit2Greatness Ambassador Program, I picture a true community—one that builds on the incredible foundation we've already created, but keeps growing in depth, reach, and connection. In our world, every athlete has a seat at the table. Whether you're brand new to the sport or you've been racing for decades, whether you prefer the excitement of a sprint or the challenge of an IRONMAN, you belong here. This is a space where every athlete is encouraged to step in, be seen, and thrive. My biggest hope for this year is to welcome a wave of new athletes into triathlon—people who may have been curious, but unsure if they'd fit in—and show them that this sport is for everyone. And beyond racing, I want this to be a place where we support each other's growth both inside and outside of sport. I'd love for us to lead more community events, take part in races together, and deepen relationships with race directors and the brands that make our sport stronger. My heart tells me this program is just at the beginning of its potential, and I truly cannot wait to see what we create together. Get Gritty Tip: 66-Day Challenge! Rich, as you know, I am a huge fan of the book, The ONE Thing, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan and one of the favorite lessons I learned is about the power of breaking down habits into bite size pieces that you can consistently sustain over time. I've actually crafted several keystone habits over the past five years through using the tools from The ONE Thing.  For example, I built the habit of setting aside my gym clothes every night before work. We have our habit of reading the Daily Stoic as a morning ritual, and now we share our 3 wins and 3 things we are grateful for each day. These habits have been critical for helping me make each day purpose-driven and intentionally meaningful. So that brings me to the habit I am now currently working on. I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to complete 10 unassisted pull-ups by the end of 2025. I was going strong for the first 3 months and kind of fell off with the start of race season. Well, after doing my mid-year reset I realized I needed to get back on the proverbial horse, and what better way to do that than a 66-day pull-up challenge! So why 66 days? If you've read The ONE Thing then you'll remember in Chapter #6 the discussion around a study the University College of London did on how long it takes on average to create a habit–66 days. So my challenge, because I know how important it is to start small, is to complete 1 pull per day for 66 days. Now, I do as many as I can and right now, I'm on Day 10 and I'm up to 4 unassisted pull-ups. I also use a band and knock out as many as I can with the assist to help me continue to progress. I'm also hoping I can start adding in weighted pull-ups as we get further down the road. The other part of the challenge is to post the evidence on social media which 1) keeps me accountable, and 2) inspires others to join me! I found out today that Coach Will Nichols, @coachironwill on Instagram, bought his own pull-up bar and started his 66-day pull-up challenge!  So I want to throw the challenge out there to you, Rich, and to our audience! It doesn't have to be pull-ups, but what's one thing you can commit to doing for 66 days that helps you on your athletic journey! I want you to share with us and tag me @getgrittywithme on Instagram so I can cheer you on just like Coach Will!   TriDot Workout of the Week: Orientation Swim   Open Water Swim is the Workout of the Week I've chosen for a couple of reasons. One, it is so helpful to get in the body of water you will be racing in and get a feel for swim start, current, temperature, lighting, sun direction, weeds, swim exit, which goggles work best,  etc.    In Milwaukee this was key. They had the course setup and we were able to swim the buoys through the bridge and practice the swim exit as it would be on race day. It also gave us the opportunity  to get comfortable with the high likelihood of the race not being wetsuit legal.I chose to do the practice swim in just my TriDot swim jammers.   Here's a full list of benefits: Course Familiarization Swim the actual course (or as much as allowed) to understand sighting landmarks, turns, and exit points. Identify key buoys: Start buoy, turn buoys, and finish buoy. Practice sighting using fixed landmarks (buildings, trees, flags) beyond the buoys. Note water entry and exit terrain: Is it sandy, rocky, slippery, or grassy? Environmental Awareness Assess water conditions: Temperature, current, chop, visibility. Practice breathing on both sides if waves or sun glare may affect one side. Check for wind direction and how it may affect swim navigation. Gear Check Test your race-day gear: Goggles (anti-fog), wetsuit, swim cap. Practice wetsuit entry and exit to simulate transitions. Try different goggles if visibility or sun glare is an issue. Mental Preparation Visualize race morning: From lining up at the start to exiting the water. Practice your start strategy: Deep water start, beach start, or time trial start. Swim with others to simulate race-day contact and drafting. Technique & Strategy Practice sighting rhythm: Every 6–10 strokes is typical. Work on pacing: Start controlled, build into race effort. Try drafting behind or beside another swimmer if allowed. Safety & Logistics Locate lifeguards or safety personnel and understand emergency protocols. Note the location of medical tents or aid stations near swim exit. Time your swim to understand how long it takes at race pace.   Fun Segment: Triathlon Hot Takes Debate! So I happened upon this article in Triathlete Magazine titled “7 Spicy-Hot Debates Triathletes Can't Stop Arguing” and I thought this would be a perfectly juicy topic of discussion for this week's fun segment! Your assignment is to convincingly argue your case in 20 seconds or less. Time to bring the heat! Are you Team Bare or Team Hair: Do you shave your body hair for triathlon or go au naturel? Which is harder: Training for an Ironman or training for a marathon PR? Flying dismount or unclipping, foot down? White Tri Suits? Yay or Nay? Sprint or jog into the finisher chute? Post every workout on social media, or no? Which is more impressive? Ironman World Champion or Olympic Champion? Well there you have it. We laid our opinions on the line and now it's your turn! We want to hear from you: are you team bare or team hair? Is training for a marathon PR harder than training for an Ironman? And what about white tri suits? Give us your opinions and we'll see who truly won the Triathlon Hot Takes Debate!   Closing:   Thanks again for listening this week. Please be sure to follow us @303Triathlon and @grit2greatnessendurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment. We'd really appreciate it! Stay tuned, train informed and enjoy the endurance journey!

He doesn't consider himself elite, yet he completed his first triathlon at Ironman Texas, gone sub-10 at Ironman Arizona the day after a powerlifting competition, and he's qualified for both the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Now chasing a sub-2:40 marathon, Tommy shares his training insights, race stories, and even his unsponsored opinion on popular drones. Whether you're chasing your first finish line or your fastest time, this conversation is packed with inspiration and laughs.Fit, Healthy & Happy Podcast Welcome to the Fit, Healthy and Happy Podcast hosted by Josh and Kyle from Colossus...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

Graham "GSM" Matthews and RJ Marceau have thoughts on whether it's a positive or negative for fans and how much money they're actually saving compared to a decade ago, the lucrative deal and the lack of convenience it creates, UFC pay-per-views heading to Paramount+ and if fighter pay will increase. Plus, they have thoughts on WWE potentially counterprogramming AEW All Out next month, what's to be gained and why it's happening more often, Naomi possibly being out indefinitely after missing Monday's Raw, how WWE might have to pivot (again) with the Women's World Championship picture if she is indeed sidelined for the foreseeable future, Bayley's character change and if it will work, if Karrion Kross and Scarlett leaving WWE is legitimate and the blurring of the lines between work and shoot, what would happen if Kross were to return to WWE and his ultimate ceiling, if 40 is the prime for wrestlers nowadays, and more!

As Ukraine and Russia master new forms of drone warfare, are NATO and Europe being left behind? Is the West willfully clinging to older 20th century ways of equipping and preparing for war? In this episode, Arthur Snell is joined by Matthew Savill, the Director of Military Sciences at RUSI. They focus on developments and trends in contemporary conflict and investigate new trends in the use of force in the mid-21st Century. The duo discuss Ukraine's rapid innovation in drone technology, the challenges NATO faces in integrating the newer forms of air power with its ground forces, Britain's lack of preparedness at the Corp level, and the shifting dynamics of US commitment to NATO.  And as they Order the Disorder, Matthew expresses a need for European countries to enhance their military capabilities and boost overall readiness – and the need to spend large amounts of money to achieve those objectives. Scandalous! Seems like the rider reviews aren't quite done, yet...What have we got in other news? For starters, there's Constructors' World Championship. That's the grading system where we're not looking for the best rider, but the best bike. Don't feel bad if the above doesn't immediately make you feel excited or even ring a bell, because the Constructer's Championship is woefully underexposed in MotoGP. That's a shame, because it is an arena where the stakes, drama and tension are all sky-high.In other words, it makes for good stories. And we all love a good story, right? So now that we've done all the riders, let's have a look at their rides and dive straight into this championship-inside-a-championship. Cheers! Want more? What do you do when your biggest goal slips through your fingers? When something that should be easy just falls apart? In this raw and real episode, I share a personal story after a surprise elimination at a 2* event that derailed my path to the 7-year-old World Championships. Alongside Lorna, we unpack what it really means to reframe a “failure” and keep moving forward with clarity and confidence. In this episode, we talk about: The emotional rollercoaster of watching your goals slip away Why riding “a level down” doesn't always mean an easy round How complacency and expectations can quietly sabotage performance The danger of letting your ego (or Instagram!) define your self-worth My powerful 3-step post-competition reflection process What to do when you see someone else succeed at your goal Why setbacks don't mean you're not good enough, they just mean you're growing If you've ever: Felt blindsided by a disappointing competition Wondered if you should just stop setting goals altogether Struggled to bounce back when things don't go to plan Compared your messy middle to someone else's perfect highlight reel... … then this episode will meet you exactly where you are, and show you how to shift. “Every year the top three resets. It doesn't matter what you did the previous year. If you need any more evidence than this 1500 final, then I don't know what to tell you. Everything is so cutthroat. Just getting on that top three was a big relief. I know that the big peak is coming in September, so I can live with this for now. Now I know where I'm at exactly.”My guest for today's episode is Cole Hocker, who is no stranger to championship moments. But even Olympic champions can go through droughts. Since winning gold in Paris last summer, Hocker hadn't claimed a single 1500 or mile final — 0-for-8 — in a year that's tested his patience, his poise, and his place in one of the most ruthless eras of middle-distance running. But in 2025, Hocker has also been focused on something new in taking on the 5000m. On Sunday, in the biggest 5K win of his career, he stormed down the Hayward Field homestretch to take the U.S. title in 13:26.45 — closing in 51.76 for the last lap, 25.69 for the final 200, and outkicking Olympic bronze medalist Grant Fisher and U.S. 10,000 champ Nico Young to punch his ticket to the World Championships in Tokyo. It wasn't flashy. It wasn't record-breaking. It was tactical execution — Hocker biding his time, slipping to fifth with 200 to go, and trusting that if the race came down to pure speed, he'd have the last word. And he did. With that win, the double dream is alive: Hocker will line up in both the 1500 and the 5000 at Worlds — just as he set out to do at the start of the year. He's stronger than last season, more confident than ever, and ready to see if that closing gear can stand up to the world's best in Tokyo. We talk about what it took to win this one, the mental discipline to ride out the noise of a long season while also focusing on the double, and why patience—even for an Olympic champion—combined with his supreme confidence makes him one of the most dangerous racers in the world.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Cole Hocker | @colehocker on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Watch: USATF Championships men's 5000m finalWatch: USATF Championships men's 1500m final____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived. Tim Manners is a writer, communications consultant and baseball fan.  He is a former FM-radio disc jockey, publicist and magazine publisher. Shelby Houlihan isn't running from her past. She's running straight into whatever comes next. With a late-race surge and her trademark finishing kick, Shelby captured the 5,000m U.S. title at Hayward Field. She proved it: she's not done. Not even close.Just a few years ago, her career looked over. For an athlete at the height of her prime, it was a devastating blow. Before that, Houlihan had been the face of U.S. middle-distance running. She shattered American records in the 1500 meters (3:54.99) and 5000 meters (14:23.92), won 12 national titles, and finished just off the podium at the 2019 World Championships. Her rise had seemed unstoppable. Until it wasn't.But Houlihan didn't disappear. She trained in the shadows. And when the ban was lifted in January 2025, she wasted no time. First came a win in the 3000m at the Razorback Invitational. Then a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing. Now, a stunning U.S. 5000m title in Eugene–her 13th national crown and her first major outdoor championship since her return. The race itself was tactical and tense. The early pace was slow, the field bunched. But with one lap to go, Houlihan made her move. Elise Cranny and Josette Andrews went with her, but it was Shelby who had the final gear. She closed her last 200 meters in 30.56 seconds and crossed the line in 15:13.61, a full step ahead of the competition. This was a statement. Proof that the years in exile haven't dulled her edge. That the fire hadn't gone out. She's still unsponsored, still training alone in Flagstaff, Arizona. But she's qualified for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, where she plans to race the 5000m. And she's doing it on her own terms — no excuses, no apologies. For Shelby Houlihan, this isn't just a comeback, it's a redemption story written on the track. In today's conversation, Shelby walks me through this remarkable performance, what silencing the naysayers means, why this US title means so much, inside the nerves, emotions, belief, and experiences of this race; her goals for Tokyo, and how much longer she plans on running for. This conversation is raw, honest, and an inside look at the peak of one of the greatest stories track and field has ever seen.Tap into the Shelby Houlihan Special.  If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! I would also appreciate it if you share it with your friend who you think will benefit from it. Comment the word “PODCAST” below and I'll DM you a link to listen. If this episode blesses you, please share it with a friend!S H O W  N O T E S-The Run Down By The Running Effect (our new newsletter!): https://tinyurl.com/mr36s9rs-BUY MERCH BEFORE IT'S GONE: https://shop.therunningeffect.run-Our Website: https://therunningeffect.run -THE PODCAST ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClLcLIDAqmJBTHeyWJx_wFQ-My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therunningeffect/?hl=en-Take our podcast survey: https://tinyurl.com/3ua62ffz

“I thought I had missed my moment last year. I didn't want that to define me, but I didn't want to put way too much pressure on this year, because it wasn't going to make up for last year. It was really hard. But in the last month, I said, ‘We're going to go for it. We're going to put our ego to the side and see what happens.'”Sage Hurta-Klecker knows heartbreak. In her first U.S. Championships in 2021, she fell and broke her wrist. In 2023, she finished a painful fourth in the 800m, just one spot shy of making the team. Last year, she was fifth after getting tangled in the ripple effects of a fall by Athing Mu. Even indoors this year, she was again one place away from qualifying for a world championship team. But this past weekend at Hayward Field, Hurta-Klecker rewrote the script. Charging down the final straight in the women's 800, she leaned hard for the finish line and went down hard after crossing it. She stopped the clock at 1:59.48 to edge out 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials champion Nia Akins by just four hundredth of a second. This time, the fall didn't mean heartbreak; it meant joy, it meant redemption, and finally, it meant her first U.S. team and a ticket to the World Championships. “Don't let your narrative of the past limit your future,” she wrote afterward on Instagram. Sage did not, and now she's heading to Tokyo. We talk all about that race, the shortcomings along the way, and the overwhelming sense of relief to finally make a team.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Sage Hurta-Klecker | @hurtasage on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Watch: USATF Championships Women's 800m final____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived. “The other part is that he loves it. He doesn't miss. A ton of people are—to be cliche—talented, but they don't do the things to maximize their talent. So how is he there? Because he's doing everything to at least give him the chance to maximize his talent. Do we know it's going to be 1:42? No, we don't know that. We have no clue what it is… He's doing the things it takes to see how good he can be—and he loves finding out what that looks like.”My guest for today's episode is Chris Capeau, the coach behind one of the most remarkable performances in American track history. As the head distance coach at Northwest High School in Texas, Capeau found success with his middle distance programs. Even before that at other Texas high schools, he was a bit of a journeyman in coaching at various universities and learning from other accomplished coaches in the sport. But this summer, the spotlight found him after 16-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus stunned the track world with a 1:42.27 in the men's 800m at the U.S. Championships. That time was a three second PR, a new U18 world record, the fastest time ever run by a high schooler, and the fourth fastest time by an American ever. More than that, it earned Lutkenhaus a spot on Team USA for the World Championships in Tokyo, making him the youngest man in history to compete at a global outdoor championships. It was a moment that defied logic, but it didn't happen by accident.Capeau has been building upon a strong foundation established by Cooper's parents. A former NAIA marathon standout and collegiate coach with deep experience in building programs, Capeau brings a thoughtful athlete-centered approach that prioritizes trust, patience, and long term development. That philosophy has now helped produce a once in a generation talent and has rewritten what we thought was possible for high school middle distance running. This conversation pairs well with our previous episode with Cooper. You can find it here. In this one, we try to make even more sense of the performance by speaking to the man who worked on making it happen day in and day out._____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Coach Chris CapeauProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Listen: Cooper Lutkenhaus Breaks Down His 1:42.27 800m At 16 Years Old To Make History, Qualifies For The 2025 World Championships + Goals For TokyoWatch: USATF Championships Men's 800m final_____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived. Ethan Strand isn't a prospect anymore: he's the problem everyone else is trying to solve. Just months after rewriting the NCAA record books with blistering indoor times in the mile (3:48.32) and 3,000m (7:30.15), Ethan took another quantum leap—this time on the pro stage. In only his second race as a professional, he lined up at Hayward Field for the U.S. Championships and ran 3:30.25 in the 1500 meters, finishing second in a stacked field and earning his first senior Team USA berth for the World Championships in Tokyo. He's back on the show with The Tokyo World Championships right around the corner. What makes this moment even more remarkable is the velocity of his ascent. From his days as a state-record holder at Vestavia Hills High School to his reign at UNC (where he became the first collegiate athlete ever to break both the indoor mile and 3,000m records in the same season), Ethan's trajectory has been jaw-dropping.In Eugene, he didn't just hang with the nation's best. He outkicked nearly all of them, including Olympic and World Championship finalists. His 3:30.25 ranks as the second-fastest in NCAA history and confirmed what close followers of the sport have sensed for a while: Ethan Strand is trying to become one of the best to ever do it.In today's conversation, Ethan walks me through this remarkable, career-defining result, as well as his newfound ambition as a pro. Cooper placed second in the men's 800m in 1:42.27 — a U18 world record, a three second personal best, and the fourth fastest time ever run by an American. He finished just behind Donovan Brazier, the former world champion who made his own remarkable comeback. Cooper was in 7th place with 150m to go. He stayed calm, executed his race plan, and closed in a blistering 12.48 seconds over the final 100m, surging into second and nearly catching Donovan Brazier at the finish line. This was a performance that defied age, experience, and expectations, and announced Cooper as the future of American middle distance running. In this episode, we get into it and try to answer the main question: how did this happen and who is Cooper? "It feels really good — and it's a lot of pressure at the same time... I do have a target on my back, but that's fine." Happy USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships! Today, eight-time National Champion (and fan favorite!) Nikki Hiltz will compete in the first round of the 1500m, hoping to advance to the Final and, ultimately, earn a spot on Team USA for World Championships in Tokyo. In this conversation, recorded the night before the meet, Nikki talks about how they're feeling heading into the first round and what the energy is like in Eugene, OR, right now.
