Weekly Devotions with Calvary Church (Assemblies of God, Kuala Lumpur) Senior Pastor Rev. Tan Sri Prince Guneratnam
Jesus is the door to God's wonderful Grace.
Jesus did not 'retaliate' when He was wronged. He had a different form of retaliation. This is not passive aggressiveness. This is active. This is right. He retaliated with love.
What is a good servant? We can act like good servants, but in reality, we are not. We can have the form, but not the spirit.
Grace is a wonderful provision. It is not cheap.
Jesus wasn't concerned with 'losing face'. When it comes to matters of the soul, culture and customs of the day should not get in the way.
There is a way that seems right, but the end of it is destruction. | We are in a battle against evil that is not over but the victory is guaranteed.
The Bible says the righteous have many troubles. "Why is my pain unending, and my wound grievous and incurable," says Jeremiah. "Now my heart is troubled," says Jesus... But it also tells us that God's love doesn't have an expiry date.
Despite our many differences, He is building us into one body. The Church molded by The Potter.
The question is, "Who is Jesus?". Jesus himself asks that question, "Who do you think I am?" It's a big question. We trace the promise and lineage of Jesus Christ through history in order to renew our understanding of the saviour. Our saviour who came to teach us how to live.
John the Baptist asks Jesus, "Are you the Messiah we are looking for? Or shall we wait for someone else?".
Love. God. Self. Neighbour. We have a responsibility.
The small things. We miss this. Patience, is a small thing.
There is much responsibility in our relationships. Breaking away from that comes with consequences. We need to live in fellowship. We need to know what is true and right over what is legal.
Just the thought of what was and what is to come makes it easier to face whatever the challenge that is before me. Hope.
Love is a proof of your faith. Let us love in the example of Christ, who gave himself for us.
A two part devotion. First: To be encouraged, exult God. | Second: Jesus was always part of a family. We need family, don't we? There is joy in the fellowship of the family.
Faith makes God take note. It does not discriminate. Faith brings God's credit to you. Faith brings power into your life. Faith brings work into your life. Faith glorifies God. Do you have faith?
Jesus came, not only to heal the physically blind but to open our eyes that we may see and understand the things of God.
It's not a matter of rights. It's a matter of maturity. The way of humility never discounts.
Have you ever had the experience of finding or wanting something (and it's right in front of you)… but because it doesn't fit the picture you imagine it to be… you move along searching, wanting? If you really want the truth, the truth is standing right in front of you.
You are doing what God has called you to do. And you question why you are faced with rejection, persecution, and ridicules… Let's take a look at how Jesus handled his being sent, into a world that rejected Him.
Having grown up in a carpenter's home for thirty years, Jesus was expected to pursue the family trade. So when Jesus went out to call and meet his disciples (even forgoing a meal), his family did not understand. "He was out of his mind," they said. Truth is, he left home, to do the will of the Father.
Publicity – is it a motivation and a foundation for ministry?
How does God view me? What is my relationship to God? How should I view myself in my relationship to God? If you want to learn how to have a relationship with God, then learn how Jesus, a man, related himself to God.
Betrayal can be one of the most painful experiences in our lives. It can also be one of the most difficult situations to forgive. The Jesus we know had such an experience, but demonstrated grace even in the face of death. We can learn much about grace and forgiveness from Jesus.
Where did Paul get strength to live Christ like life? What is that that gave Paul the ability, the strength, the perseverance? What is it that really kept him strong and helped to tell others “Rejoice and again I say rejoice!” in spite of being in the prison? It’s because he understood that he was just a branch and Jesus was the Vine. It means that his strength was coming from the Vine, i.e. from Jesus. Will you recognize Jesus as your source of strength?
Jesus is a stumbling block but not in a negative sense. He is our standard, and so we need to be changed. We need to fit His standards because of His righteousness, because He is our standard. He is the “trouble maker” who straightens our lives, to make our lives whole. Therefore be open to the messages and truth that God communicates to you. He is the same Jesus who came to bring peace and He is the same Jesus who brought trouble to you to make you better.
Jesus came as a sinless man in the flesh to have experiences that you and I go through so that He can help us in our journey. He knows your struggles and can help you. He can bring deliverance, healing, an answer, and give you wisdom so that you will know how to come out from your situation.
Jesus was exposing hypocrisy. He didn’t call sinners “hypocrites”, but religious people. Jesus Himself was not accused of hypocrisy. Whatever He taught and said, He lived it. One of the ways to know if we have hypocrisy is to look into our own hearts and ask ourselves: “Are we critical of others?” If you can see the wrongs in others, in many times, it’s because you yourself are living a life that is wrong.
Jesus came to bring new wine, and he wants to put it in new skin. A born again Christian can adopt new skin, and there... is new life!
Having faith in our friends, can stir faith within their hearts to believe Jesus!
Just as products have to be tested before distributing to consumers, Jesus was attested by God and He can be counted on - for real!
Confession and repentance: what is the difference?
Scripture must be your life application. What is your value of the church?
One of our main downfalls is our pride. Opposite of pride is humility/humbleness. Humility has a way to attract people! Listen here for a better understanding of the difference between pride and humility.
God speaks through His Word. Read the Word and take it with your faith. He is going to do what He has said in His Word. He will keep His promise whatever it takes. Don’t despise His Word and Promises.
God communicates with you on the level where you are. He doesn’t speak to you on high levels. He speaks to you according to your ability, knowledge, wisdom and understanding.
You are not alone living the Christian life. There are a lot of witnesses surrounding you. Thousands were before you and thousands in the present are living and serving our wonderful God. Jesus is the example of our faith, so look up to Him! He is “the author and perfecter of our faith.” He is like a finishing tape and every runner of the race is looking at it, so you look at Jesus and run the race. You can finish the race only if you have Jesus in your mind.
What is the difference between your kindness, help and generosity and unbelievers’ kindness, help and generosity? The difference is that they “wait” until something happens, then they respond and go to help. The Christian should go and help before the need happens! We need to look for opportunities to help. You need to take initiative to go and find out how your fellow Christian is doing and help him even before something happens so that your kindness or generosity may differ from the kindness or generosity of unbelievers.
In the Christian life there will be moments of differences of opinions and ideas, of disagreements with one another, different ways of doing things, but in those differences we should not be negative. They are not to create enmity or strife. All those differences make you an individual. In those differences we need to have the right attitude. They are to help us to complement each other, to make us more beautiful. We need to have unity in spite of differences and should finish objectives that God has put in our lives!
We have a choice of accepting or rejecting the truth. If you want to see God and experience His power in your life, then you have got to apply truth you had have been convinced of. You need to do something about the truth you have heard and have been convinced of. Deal with the message, not with the messenger.
What makes the difference? That is that we need to practice our faith!
He has power to heal. That through Him, we are more than conquerors.
Jesus, the lamb. Why a lamb? We may ask. Suppose we are 'something', how then can God make you into 'anything'. "To the humble, He draws near. To the proud, He puts afar off." Like the lamb, we are to be 'living sacrifices'… Maybe then, can we truly rely on our only dependence, the Shepherd.
Senior Pastor talks about Jesus, the Light. Jesus, the light - revealed salvation. He revealed the Father. He came to be our guide, and show us the way. He also reveals that which is to be avoided. At the same time, the Light brings life, and life brings growth. And we, are charged to be like Him. Are we shining like the light we ought to be?
Senior Pastor examines the meaning of repentance. Repentance is more than a mere confession. It is a turn. And perhaps, we ought to re-look at our lives, rise up and stop living the way we have. Like the prodigal son, let's go home and have that relationship with our Father once again.
Each new day, there is a refreshing of God's dew. And only when you are out there, can you experience that dew. The Bible speaks of an excellent example of devotion and courage - and in spite of much risk to their own lives, the couple Aquila and Priscilla were generous and availed their home to Paul.
Senior talks about faithfulness - that is success.
