In the fourth episode of "God Killed My Old Man," Duane Sheriff teaches the transformative power of our new nature in Christ. Understanding this new identity is the key to embracing our new nature and living a victorious Christian life. When we accept Christ, a radical change occurs. According to Ephesians 2:1-5, we were once "dead in trespasses and sins," but now we have been made alive in Christ. This change is not just an improvement of our old selves, but a complete replacement. Our old sinful nature has been crucified, and we have been given a new nature that is "righteous and truly holy."Romans 6:11 instructs us to "reckon yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." This verse is not about constantly struggling against sin but about embracing our new identity in Christ. We are not trying to become righteous; in our new nature, we already are righteous.Living out our new nature isn't about willpower or following rules. Instead, it's about understanding who we are in Christ and allowing that truth to transform our lives. As we renew our minds and grasp the reality of our new nature, we'll naturally desire to live holy lives that reflect our true identity in Christ.

The Bureau of Land Management is updating its master plan for developing solar energy on western lands, to help the US meet ambitious clean energy targets. The proposed plan aims to reduce barriers to solar by highlighting “previously disturbed” lands and automatically excluding critical habitat. Also, Democratic VP candidate Tim Walz has signed climate legislation as Minnesota Governor and supported regenerative agriculture bills as a Congressman, but he has received criticism for his history of supporting the ethanol industry and oil pipelines. And poetry can be up to the seemingly impossible task of capturing ecological loss, wild joy, and empathy for other species on this embattled planet. US Poet Laureate Ada Limón shares poems from her new anthology, You Are Here: Poetry in the Natural World and discusses why she believes we need a new kind of nature poetry for the new nature amid the climate crisis. -- What issues are you most interested in having Living on Earth cover in the 2024 election season? In the tenth episode of Identity Theft, Duane Sheriff teaches that if you are born again, you are no longer in Adam but in Christ, and you have been radically transformed. 2 Corinthians 5:21 explains that Jesus became sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God. Our righteousness in Christ is not something we earn but is a free gift, as stated in Romans 5. Adam's sin made us all sinners, but Jesus's obedience makes us righteous and sanctified. It's crucial to renew our minds to this new identity in Christ and teach others. Ephesians 4:22-24 instructs us to put off the old self and put on the new self, created to be righteous and holy. In Christ, we have a new nature. Even when we sin, we do not lose our new identity.Colossians 3:9-10 urges us to put off the old man with its deeds and put on the new man, renewed in knowledge, after the image of Christ. When we were in Adam, we were dominated by the flesh, driven by our physical senses and carnal minds. However, in Christ, we walk after the Spirit, not the flesh, and there is no condemnation, as Romans 8:1-2 assures us. This new law of the Spirit gives us the power to overcome sin and live a victorious life."Identity Theft" is a call to embrace our new identity in Christ, recognizing that we are no longer sinners but the righteousness of God. We're empowered to walk in holiness and truth.

(1) The WONDER of the Choice. We have SINNED against a holy God (Romans 3:23), so we deserve judgment for our sins (Romans 6:23, John 3:19, Hebrews 9:27). It is a WONDER that God sent a Redeemer to save us (John 3:17, Titus 3:4, Luke 9:56). It is a WONDER because God FORGIVES our sins (Psalm 103:12, Isaiah 53:6, Colossians 2:13-14). It is a WONDER because God ADOPTS us as children (Ephesians 1:5, Romans 8:14,16). It is a WONDER because God gives us a NEW NATURE (John 1:12-13, 2 Corinthians 5:17). It is a WONDER because God makes us a HOME with Him forever (John 14:2). The GREATEST WONDER is that God CHOSE US for Himself (Ephesians 1:4, Romans 5:8). (2) The WISDOM of the Choice. It is WISE, because those who belong to Christ have GRACE to help in time of need (Romans 5:1-2, Hebrews 4:16). It is WISE because those who choose Christ have POWER over sin (Romans 6:11-12, Galatians 5:16). It is WISE because in Christ we have AUTHORITY over satan (Colossians 1:13, Luke 10:19, James 4:7). It is WISE because by choosing Jesus we can have VICTORY over the world (1 John 5:4-5). (3) The WEIGHT of the Choice We must SUBMIT to Christ (our lives are not our own). We must FOLLOW Christ (denying ourselves). We must OBEY Christ (serving in His Kingdom) - 1 John 5:3, Matthew 11:30, Psalm 23:4,6, Isaiah 43:2. If you HAVEN'T chosen Jesus, why not make TODAY the day that you do?

Person With A New Nature
ScriptureTranscriptMusic:Above All - Michael W. SmithSoftly and Tenderly - Alan Jackson All to Jesus I Surrender - Robin Mark
Our blue spruce was dropping pinecones and needles. The tree doctor took one look at it and explained the problem. “It’s just being a spruce,” he said. I’d hoped for a better explanation. Or a remedy. But the tree man shrugged, saying again, “It’s just being a spruce.” By nature, the tree sheds needles. It can’t change. Thankfully, our spiritual lives aren’t limited by unchangeable actions or attitudes. Paul stressed this liberating truth to the new believers at Ephesus. The gentiles were “darkened in their understanding,” he said, their minds closed to God. They possessed hardened hearts containing “every kind of impurity,” and sought only after pleasures and greed (Ephesians 4:18-19). But “since you have heard about Jesus” and His truth, Paul wrote, “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life” (vv. 21-22 nlt). Paul noted how our old nature “is corrupted by lust and deception.” He said, “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy” (vv. 22-24 nlt). Paul then listed new ways to live. Stop lying. Resist anger. Stop cursing. Quit stealing. “Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need” (v. 28 nlt). Our new self in Christ allows us to live a life worthy of our calling, yielded to our Savior’s way.
