Just wanted to create a mix that shared a message of black pride. Every race needs to know their story and embrace who they are. There are times when we simply need a word to keep us going. There has been unrest over the past week for atrocities heaped upon Black families.   That said, I’m a christian and I desire to share the hope that is within me. Many times I've shared that through music I often gain clarity and peace as life's trials come my way. Through song selection this mix sprinkles "purpose" in with "fun" and "message" in with "wisdom" as I encourage us not to move toward "self-destruction" by responding solely on emotion, but I also encourage us to call "911" the joke that it is and to "fight the power" that BE. On May 25, 2020 George Floyd became another BLACK man lynched at the hands of a white person allegedly representing law enforcement. This created a void in my heart all week and some songs came to mind that I wanted to share.  The beautiful thing is that while we start off reflecting in sorrow, we end on triumph and a song of overcoming adversity. The black persons ability to rise about the injustices that have and continue to be dealt to us is not magic, it is simply a part of our LIFE's ENERGY. I've long thought that that is what creates the fear in those who attempt to oppress and dominate us is the fact that after all of these years it cannot be done.  All are created equal and EVERY race has super powers, We as BLACKS must tap into and live within ours.  We are triumphant! Yesterday during our walk my wife and i heard a song from the 80's, we began to sing, but on the walk home looked up the lyrics. We were 100% WRONG! Early in the Erica and I were looking at something on Instagram and heard the Jackson 5 song. It stayed in my head ALL day.  While not my "smoothest" mix, I always record them and share them out even when mistakes are made. During Saturday nights event we closed with a few slow songs that were well received. That let me know that this crowd liked all types of music and I thought wouldn't it be cool to create a mix made of of the songs those that came to the virtual party loved. Little did I know they would suggest 3hrs. worth of music. On Saturday April 25, 2020 we celebrated a friends birthday. With the world still on "lockdown" the party had to be virtual. Liz decided to not cancel her birthday bash and instead host it on line using IG Live.  The rest as they say is history!  This mix represents some of the tracks played last night and a few that were on the list, but couldn't fit in to the 2 plus hours we partied :-) This was seriously one of the best parties we had been to in a while. I like Millions of people today was shell shocked to learn of the death of 9 people via a helicopter crash. As I've gotten older death no matter who it is affects me. I feel it deeply. I guess it's me finally realizing my own mortality.  As I reflected on the news of the day I did what I often do when I'm hurting, I found solace in music.  Here are a few of the songs I played that helped as I attempted to not to make sense of this tragedy, but to know that tragedy will affect us all at one time or another and we must live our lives better. Last week sometime our friend over at OSOS podcast posted a photo of a brilliant sunset. I stole the photo, but it made me envision driving with no destination in particular.
