The crew provide a deep-dive review of the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. The team explores whether this big-budget production successfully captures the King of Pop's legacy or if it remains in the shadow of the 1992 miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream. The discussion covers everything from Jafar Jackson's uncanny performance to the casting choices for Joe Jackson, including a candid critique of the film's prosthetic work. Beyond the technicalities of the film, they analyze the historical accuracies of the timeline, the notable absence of siblings like Janet and Randy, and the missed opportunities to showcase the creative genius behind Off the Wall and Thriller. The conversation also touches on music history milestones, such as the true story of the first Black artist on MTV and the impact of the Pepsi commercial era. Finally, the episode addresses the heated debate surrounding the 90s R&B bracket as the hosts respond to listener voicemails questioning if New Edition really deserved to win over heavyweights like Jodeci and Boyz II Men. 0:00 – Weathering the Storm: A St. Louis Welcome 1:20 – Michael vs. The American Dream: Why the "Bible" Still Wins 4:01 – Missed Opportunities: The Making of Thriller and Off the Wall 7:28 – Casting Critique: Jafar Jackson vs. Colman Domingo's Nose 9:50 – Family Politics: The Missing Jacksons and Jermaine's Influence 15:25 – Motown Truths: Gladys Knight vs. Diana Ross 20:55 – MTV History: The First Black Artist Reveal 23:02 – The Pepsi Commercial and CGI Bubbles 32:16 – "Scraping the Bone": Have We Learned Everything About MJ? 49:09 – The Transformation: From Thriller to Bad 1:04:55 – Final Ratings: Was It Just a Love Letter for the 2000s Kids? 1:12:57 – Listener Voicemail: The Great 90s R&B Group Bracket Debate BRAND New Voicemail 314-649-3113 Join the I Only Listen to 90s Music Facebook Group http://bit.ly/3k0UEDe Follow I Only Listen to 90s Music on IG https://bit.ly/3sbCphv Follow SOLC Network online Instagram: https://bit.ly/39VL542 Twitter: https://bit.ly/39aL395 Facebook: https://bit.ly/3sQn7je To Listen to the podcast Podbean https://bit.ly/3t7SDJH YouTube http://bit.ly/3ouZqJU Spotify http://spoti.fi/3pwZZnJ Apple http://apple.co/39rwjD1 IHeartRadio http://ihr.fm/2L0A2y

The Heights was a short-lived TV show about a diverse seven-piece band that aired on Fox in the early 90s. Each episode ended with a music video that kinda encapsulated the whole episode, and at the end of the pilot episode, a young actor named Jamie Walters sung a song so powerful that it would be the end of the road for, well, “End of the Road” from Boyz II Men's epic 13 week run at #1 on the Hot 100. “How Do You Talk to an Angel” would then become the show's theme song by the third episode, and this fictional band was topping the charts. Funny enough, the show is called The Heights, and the band lives in an undisclosed place called “The Heights”, but they never actually say that it's the band's name on the show. It's unclear if the band even had a name. It didn't matter. Despite the song's massive success, the show was canceled after 13 episodes, and we're left to wonder how many more hits the show could've spawned if Aaron Spelling hadn't given up on it. This week, we're joined by the married couple of Jim Logrando and Trisha Novy to decide if there were even MORE heights that could've been reached if this television band could've gotten that Season 2 renewal. They dive into her age-gap relationship with Boyz II Men star Wanya Morris, the fallout from her headline-making “marriage,” and the tragic car accident that reshaped her life and career. From recording holiday classics with Whitney Houston to witnessing the unparalleled professionalism of Aretha Franklin in her own dining room, Taylor shares the kind of "backstage pass" stories that only a true industry titan could tell. As a mentor to host Claude Kelly and a key architect in the careers of icons like Boyz II Men and Tyrese, his presence on the show is more than just a guest appearance—it's a deep-dive masterclass into the art of vocal production and the staying power required to remain a "GOAT" in an ever-changing industry. Beyond the Grammy and Dove Awards, Taylor gets candid about the gritty reality of artist development, reflecting on his pivotal role in transforming a 17-year-old Trey Songz into a global superstar and the often "thankless" nature of a business fueled by ego and politics. He offers an inspiring look at the resilience required to stay as "giddy" about producing today as he was when he started, even after weathering thirty-six years of industry disappointments. Whether he's discussing the "silent prayer" he holds for his former students or his philosophy on the "one person" every artist needs to listen to, Taylor proves exactly why he remains a cornerstone of the culture and a permanent fixture in the R&B hall of fame. The gang breaks down Gene Simmons' own comments about the makeup while arguing whether rock legends can also be considered circus performers. From there, the conversation takes a turn toward romance… or at least what passes for romance in modern times.A new survey reveals that a huge percentage of people have dedicated bedroom playlists, which naturally leads the show down a rabbit hole of questionable “sexy songs.” The crew reacts to the list — featuring artists like Ed Sheeran, Ginuwine, and Boyz II Men — while sharing stories about middle school dances, awkward slow songs, and why some music choices may actually ruin the mood instead of improving it.But the real chaos begins when the show starts discussing the hidden meanings behind common dating phrases. When someone says “let's just be friends,” do they mean it literally? What about “I'm fine”? The gang attempts to decode the subtle language people use in relationships — with Lern providing the much-needed female perspective while the guys attempt (and mostly fail) to interpret the signals. And then the conversation hits the internet's most uncomfortable hypothetical.A viral question asks couples what they would do if a DNA test revealed they were secretly related. Would you stay together if you discovered your spouse was your cousin? What about a sibling? The crew debates every scenario imaginable, from accidental cousin marriages to the complicated family tree math that comes with it.Naturally, things escalate quickly as the gang tries to figure out what that would mean for kids, genetics, and whether your child would technically also be your niece or nephew. Yes… the conversation goes there.By the end of the episode, the show has explored rock band clowns, questionable romantic playlists, relationship psychology, and some truly confusing family genetics — which is pretty much exactly what you expect from a chaotic comedy podcast like this one.If you enjoy sarcastic humor, weird news, pop culture commentary, and completely unhinged debates between friends, this episode delivers everything you love about a daily comedy podcast.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Many of us know the classic song “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men and assume it is a heartbreaking love song. But a closer look at the lyrics reveals a more troubling story: it is about a person who cannot let go of a relationship that was unfaithful and toxic. The song portrays someone stuck in a delusion, clinging to what was, even though it was painful and unhealthy. This is not romantic; it is a tragedy that keeps people from moving forward into freedom and healing. This feeling of being stuck is not limited to romantic partners. We all have “exes” in our lives. An ex can be a job you poured everything into that never valued you, a mindset that no longer fits who you are becoming, or a season of life that has ended. The tragedy occurs when we struggle to accept that what once was is no longer, and we remain tethered to the past, unable to walk into our next chapter. This is precisely where we find the people of God in Deuteronomy 2. After years of wandering in circles, God declares that it is time to move on. He says, “You have been skirting this hill country long enough. Head north.” It is go time.
