It's 2013. Miley Cyrus has dramatically shed her Disney Channel persona with her hit track, Wrecking Ball. Daft Punk are dominating dancefloors worldwide with Get Lucky, and Beyoncé has broken all records by dropping a 14-track album with no advance warning. Despite all this, one song looms large over the year - dwarfing all that came before or after it. Its name? Blurred Lines. It's a cultural flashpoint. The court of public opinion spins into overdrive, with the song's creators Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I., hurled into the dock. Before long, Robin Thicke has become the poster child for provocation. His appearances generate headlines and record-breaking twitter storms, and his name becomes synonymous with sleaze. But who does his controversial cancellation serve – and did he know exactly what he was doing? While you are there make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter, on the main menu is subscribe. In this newsletter, you will find all the new songs released from the prior month and also some great song ideas. Let's go ahead and get started with the popular songs of the 2010s. I have these grouped by genre starting off with Rock Songs. The first one is “Feel It Still” by Portugal The Man released in 2017, and “Handclap” by Fitz & The Tantrums in 2016. We all know the famous lyrics that get everybody to clap…”Cause you don't even know, I can make your hands clap. “Best Day Of My Life by American Authors, released in 2014. This is a great song that you could play as a recessional song, that is after the “I Do's”. Lyrics include…No, just don't wake me now. This is gonna be the best day of my life. Popular dance song, “Shut Up And Dance” by Walk The Moon in 2014. With the lyrics…Just keep your eyes on me. I said you're holding back, She said shut up and dance with me. Next up are R&B wedding songs from the 2010s with “Finesse” by Bruno Mars featuring Cardi B. “Can't Feel My Face” by The Weeknd, in 2015 with the lyrics…I can't feel my face when I'm with you. But I love it, but I love it. “Love On Top” by Beyonce in 2013 with the lyrics…You're the one I can always call. When I need to make everything stop. Finally, you put my love on top. This can be played throughout your wedding day, it is very popular. So is her other song “Drunk In Love” with her husband Jay Z, also released in 2013. Make sure you play those two songs if you are a big Beyonce fan. Her recently released Renaissance album also has some great dance tunes on it as well. “Suit And Tie” by Justin Timberlake featuring Jay Z, in 2013, is a great song for the garter toss if you want to have it, or just a tribute to all the men that are in the wedding or reception. Lyrics include…And as long as I've got my suit and tie, I'ma leave it all on the floor tonight. The controversial song, “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and T.I. was released in 2013. If this is still really popular in your area it is a great dance tune. “All Of Me” by John Legend in 2013 is one of the greatest R&B love songs of all time. With the lyrics…You're my end and my beginnin'. Even when I lose, I'm winnin'. Another great love song, by Miguel, called “Adorn” in 2012, with the lyrics…Let my love adorn you, baby. Don't you ever Don't you let nobody tell you different. A great dance tune by Usher, featuring Pitbull, is “DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love”. It was released in 2010 with the lyrics…Gon' get you right, ‘Cause baby tonight, DJ got us fallin' in love again. Another one of his famous dance tunes is “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am in 2010. This closes out the R&B. Next up are the Dance tunes. Starting off with “Something Just Like This” by the Chainsmokers and Coldplay released in 2017. I really love this as a cocktail hour or dinner background song. One of the greatest entrance songs, into the reception, is “This Is What I Came For” by Calvin Harris featuring Rhianna released in 2016. Lyrics include…Baby,

Caroline talks to Christian Sands, a friend, and Multi-Grammy Nominated Pianist. This episode is filled with amazing, moving glimpses into his working process, and life as an artist, musician, and human. We discuss managing life's pressures, connecting with yourself, understanding that it's okay to not be okay sometimes, and making adjustments when necessary. Sands also shares a personal experience he had with Warren Buffett and the life lesson that he learned and carries with him to this day. Christian Sands Bio Often, the term prodigy is applied with minimal context. In the case of jazz pianist Christian Sands, it is appropriate. He has studied piano since the age of 3 and began composing at five years old. By ten, he was performing across the United States.  After years of formal music education, he became a protege of the great pianist and educator, Dr. Billy Taylor. Like his mentor, Sands is devoted to performance, community involvement and music education. His initial break came when he was asked to be a member of world renowned bassist', Christian McBride's quintet (Inside Straight) at the Jazz Standard in New York City. After, he collaborated with McBride in a celebrated trio and which gained a Grammy-nomination in 2013 with their release, “Out Here.”  Over the years, Sands has performed, collaborated and written with artists like Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, David Sanborn, Cécile Mclorin Salvant, Coolio, A Tribe Called Quest, Robin Thicke and Taylor Dayne to name a few as well as scoring music for television and film. With multiple successful albums under his belt, his latest project, “Be Water” was nominated in 2021 for Best Jazz album in the 52nd NAACP Image Awards and Best Instrumental Composition in the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. #musicians #listen #playing #kid #kids #podcast #type Resources: Christian Sands: iTunes - Album - Be Water https://music.apple.com/us/album/be-water/1500308161 Christian Sands: iTunes - Artist Link - https://music.apple.com/us/artist/christian-sands/272387208 Ryan Sands: iTunes - Album - Standing on the Edge of Tomorrow https://music.apple.com/us/album/standing-on-the-edge-of-tomorrow/1621900581 Podcast Jingle by Real Topeka People Real Topeka People: Spotify - https://spoti.fi/3Np78CY Real Topeka People: TikTok - https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMLHgoYuc/

Broken Records - The Search for the Worst Album Ever

Welcome to another episode of Broken Records, the podcast which desperately scours the music world and tries to answer that age old question; what is the worst album ever made? This week Steve and Remfry have a hot contender on their hands as they look at Paula by Robin Thicke, the 7th studio album from the soul-pop lothario, released on the 1st of July 2014.  Thicke had a pretty decent decade long career in the music industry by 2013, he may not have scaled the heights of a Justin Timberlake or an Usher, but his brand of slinky, sexy, soul was popular enough to earn him a decent following in the US, where he appeared on Oprah and supported Beyonce. But it all changed for him when he released the song Blurred Lines in 2013. The song, as we are sure you're aware, was a monolithic hit, dominating the airwaves for the entire year, but came with plenty of criticism and controversy, the ugly sexual politics of the song were condemned by many, Thicke stirred the pot further with a overly sexualised performance at the 2013 MTV Awards with Miley Cyrus and the estate of Marvin Gaye launched a plagiarism lawsuit against the song as well. Thicke himself was now at the centre of a media storm, and when allegations of drugs, violence and infidelity came out in the aftermath, his wife of 9 years Paula Patton filed for divorce. Most people would take time away form the spotlight to address these problems in private, but Robin Thicke decided to do the absolute opposite of that, writing and recording an album named after his wife in a mere 7 week period that detailed their relationship in painstakingly minute detail in the vain hope of winning her back. It didn't. It was a critical and commercial flop, and turned Thicke from one of the biggest stars in music into a washed up nobody practically overnight. Whether this is any good or not we will get to, but in terms of career suicide and a fall from grace, there aren't many albums that can get close to Paula.

Hey Identifier, https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jay-z-meek-mill-big-sean-fat-joe-back-law-limiting-rap-lyrics-at-criminal-trials-1286594/ Jay-Z is leading a list of music industry titans throwing their support behind a proposed New York state law that aims to stop prosecutors from using rap lyrics as purported blueprints to alleged crimes, Rolling Stone has learned. The rap superstar, born Shawn Carter, is teaming up with Meek Mill, Big Sean, Fat Joe, Kelly Rowland, Yo Gotti, Killer Mike, Robin Thicke, and others as celebrity signatories on a new letter urging state lawmakers — and ultimately Gov. Kathy Hochul — to make the recently proposed bill titled “Rap Music on Trial” (S.7527/A.8681) a state law.
