Together, we are one church, on one mission, to love like Jesus. We invite you to take a journey with us and get to know some of the people in our church.

Sermon on the Book of Daniel preached on Sunday, September 8th.
Sermon Preached by Pastor Scott Simmons on Sunday, August 25th.
God will protect in the fire, not from the fire. Faithfulness to God will sometimes require you to take a stand against human belligerence. This is what "the boys" do in chapter 3 of Daniel when they are told to bow down in absolute loyalty to a human authority. They refuse this demand but they also don't fight back. Rather, they place their trust in God and take a stand. Many years later, Jesus would do the same. In this message you will learn the fundamental insight that empowers such courage. It is the knowledge that all human kingdoms end but the kingdom of God lasts forever.
The book of Daniel is written to provide a third way to the ingrained responses of fight and flight. In this message, Pastor Scott describes the first of three "stands" that Daniel and his friends make while spending a lifetime as captives in Babylon. If you want to know what to do in a hopeless situation, this teaching from Daniel is for you.
How do you respond when your life is threatened? Do you fight or do you flight. In 168 BC the Jewish religion was outlawed by the Syrian Greek king Antiochus IV. A group of Jewish revolutionaries decided to fight. Led by Judas "Maccabeus", the revolution was successful in winning back the temple and eventually establishing the first independent Jewish state in more than 400 years. But at what cost? The Maccabees inflicted violence not only on Antiochus' army but also on their own people. Ultimately, due infighting and their own lust for power, the Israel lost its independence to the Romans. The book of Daniel is written during this period to provide a third way alternative to the violence of the Maccabees and the surrender of many others. It is a brilliant critique of power and a resilient call to have hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.
