What is worse than financial poverty? Proverbs 18:22–19:7 looks forward to the midweek sermon. In these ten verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that spiritual poverty is infinitely worse than financial poverty. The central message of the devotional is that true security comes not from wealth, status, or earthly influence, but from relationship with God through Christ, Who is the ultimate Friend. Drawing from Proverbs 18:22–19:7, it emphasizes that godly speech and a life marked by humility and wisdom are instruments through which God grants blessings such as a godly spouse and faithful friends, but these are ultimately divine gifts, not human achievements. The passage confronts the worldly illusion that wealth buys loyalty, revealing instead that the poor and righteous are often abandoned by friends, yet they are not without hope, for they have Christ—'a Friend Who sticks closer than a brother'—Who stands as their eternal advocate before God's judgment seat. The sermon warns against pride and fleshly security, highlighting that those who live in arrogance and deceit, even if wealthy, will face divine accountability, while those whose fellowship with Christ is displayed by walking in integrity, though friendless on earth, are assured of divine favor. Ultimately, believers are called to place their hope not in material prosperity or human alliances, but in Christ alone, Who is the source of true life, righteousness, and unshakable friendship.

A Prayer for Growth to be a Good Friend In today's episode, Monica Swanson shares practical wisdom for parents on how to harness the power of good influences to help children grow in character and faith. From the friends they spend time with to the media they consume, every influence matters. While we can’t control every outside factor, we can teach and model what it looks like to choose wisely and prayerfully. Reference: Proverbs 13:20 Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that you would bring good and godly friends and influences into my child's life and protect him or her from ungodly influences. In 1 Corinthians 1533, we are reminded the bad company corrupts good character. From friendships to choices about entertainment, music, internet, and social media, I pray that my child would be attracted to good, wholesome, and helpful influences. Finally, I pray that my child would grow to be a good friend and godly influence in others' lives. Let him or her shine your light in such a way that others may see his or her good deeds and glorify their Father in heaven. That's from Matthew 5:16. In Jesus' name, amen. Episode 180 – A Tribute to Arthur KellyEpisode 180 of The Letterman Podcast is a heartfelt tribute to our dear friend Arthur Kelly, who passed away around the Fourth of July. For 15 years, Arthur was the receptionist on the 12th floor of the Ed Sullivan Theater office building — Dave's floor. His job was to be the gatekeeper: ensuring the right people and calls got through, while keeping the chaos of show business at bay so the brain trust could focus on making television magic.A few years into his tenure, something strange and wonderful happened — Arthur became an on-air personality. In a recurring segment dubbed “Coach's Corner,” he portrayed a hilariously unhinged version of football Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, barking out locker-room-style motivation that instantly became a fan favorite.Arthur was also one of the first staff members to befriend Mike, and he holds a special place in the history of The Letterman Podcast. In this emotional conversation, Mike sits down with Arthur's brother, Andre, as the two reminisce, share heartfelt stories, and reflect on the kindness, humor, and heart that Arthur brought into every room he entered. On behalf of everyone who considers themselves an enthusiast of the broadcasts released by David Letterman and Company, we extend our deepest condolences to Arthur's family, and to his Late Show family, whom he cared for so deeply. We would also like to thank Worldwide Pants for allowing us to include a few classic clips of Arthur from Late Show with David Letterman in this tribute.Stop by Hello-Deli.com — the only place to find official Late Show merchandise, brought to you by the legendary Rupert Jee.And while you're at it, give this episode a like, share it with a fellow fan, subscribe to the show, and leave a kind word or two — we'll take all the positive reinforcement we can get.

This is a lesson I taught back in 2012. What I've learned is if you want to have great friends, you have to be a good friend. You have to make it all about the good friends. I've watched Ed Mylett and he skillfully makes every conversation about the people even if they're complimenting him. He gets it. If you want people to like you, make it about them. Make sure you like people's posts. If I'm going to have a big social circle, I have to be engaged with a lot of people. I have a lot of people jockeying for their attention. But I still vie for their attention because I still want to be their friend. I'm not talking about paying their bills. They're the ones asking how the kids and wife are doing. They're the ones checking in to see how things are going. That's what makes a good friend. Be a great friend if you want to have good friends both online and off! In today's episode of The Heart & Hustle Podcast, we welcome back the powerhouse herself — Toni Collier! If you've ever felt like you're too broken, too betrayed, or too worn down to keep going, this conversation will remind you that you're not alone. Toni opens up about one of the hardest seasons of her life and how it inspired her brand-new book, “Don't Try This Alone”. (Link Below). She shares raw, personal stories of heartbreak, healing, and the power of leaning on others when you want to hide. From building a “confessional community” that became her lifeline, to learning how to be brave enough to send a single vulnerable text, Toni reminds us that healing doesn't mean living pain-free — it means increasing your capacity to hold pain while finding hope in the middle of it. Together, we dive into what true community looks like, how to rebuild trust after betrayal, and why bravery often looks like simply saying, “I need help.” Whether you're in a valley right now or preparing for the storms that will inevitably come, Toni's wisdom and humor will leave you encouraged, empowered, and ready to believe in the goodness of people again. --------------------------------- Pinterest Freebie: https://theheartuniversity.com/pinterest --------------------------------- Heart Shop: https://theheartuniversity.com/shop --------------------------------- Primally Pure: https://primallypure.com/?rfsn=5649435.725fd3 Use HEARTANDHUSTLE for 10% OFF. --------------------------------- Stay Updated with Toni and check out her new book: https://www.instagram.com/tonijcollier/ - https://www.instagram.com/brkncrayons/ - Book Link on Amazon - "Don't Try This Alone" --------------------------------- Watch on YouTube: https://youtube.com/@theheartuniversitychannel?si=33lzxpBA9UxKlgTE --------------------------------- If you want to connect with us and other listeners in the Heart and Hustle community join our Facebook group here. --------------------------------- “PODCAST10” for 10% off anything from The Shop! www.theheartuniversity.com/shop --------------------------------- Follow along: www.instagram.com/mrslindseyroman www.instagram.com/evierupp www.instagram.com/theheartuniversity

Send us a textRemember that perfect summer day when everything tasted better? That's exactly what we captured in this episode when we cracked open a Blueberry Lemon Shandy from Saugatuck Brewing Company. This Michigan-made marvel transported us straight to flavor paradise with its authentic blueberry profile that had us reminiscing about childhood cereals and carefree summer days. Not too sweet, not artificial - just pure, refreshing blueberry goodness that earned our coveted perfect 10 rating. But summer isn't always sunshine and rainbows, as we learned with our second tasting. The Rocket Pop Sour from High Wire Brewing promised nostalgic popsicle flavors but delivered something closer to melted popsicle water from the bottom of a cooler. With minimal carbonation and an identity crisis that left us questioning what makes a beer truly "sour," this disappointing 5/10 experience proved that creative concepts don't always translate to satisfying sips.Between tastings, we swap stories about weekend golfing adventures, camping mishaps, and the peculiar behavior of aging dogs with digestive issues. Our "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment ventures into morally questionable territory with questions about sleeping in empty graves for cash and whether we'd crush children's Santa dreams for money. We also bond over our shared hatred of extended warranty phone scams and reminisce about the friend dynamics of bar-hopping in our younger days.Whether you're seeking your next favorite summer beer or just want to hang with friends who tell it like it is, this episode delivers honest reviews, genuine laughs, and the occasional cautionary tale about what happens when your beer tastes like glue. Subscribe, leave a review, and tell us about your favorite summer brews – we're always thirsty for recommendations!Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com

This week on the podcast we're diving into a topic that's near and dear to so many of us: friendships for neurodivergent kids (and yes, for us as parents too). With a new school year kicking into gear, worries about social connection and "finding your people" can rise to the surface—especially for families navigating neurodiversity. What We're Unpacking This Episode: Why friendships can be challenging for neurodivergent kids (think asynchronous development, sensory sensitivities, social anxiety, or intense interests that aren't always shared by peers). Supporting your child: From validating their feelings and practicing social skills together, to seeking out interest-based clubs and even professional help when needed, we're covering loads of strategies. Managing our own expectations: Sometimes it's our hearts that ache more than our kids'—especially if they're totally content solo-building Lego metropolises while we scroll by endless social media playdate posts. (You're not alone if this sounds all too familiar.) Key Takeaway: There's no single “right” way for kids to socialize—and not all loneliness means your child is suffering. We talk about the difference between the child who longs for connection (and how to support them) and the content solo flyer (who's truly happy alone, even if that's hard for us to accept as parents). Quick Tips From the Episode: Normalize neurodiversity at home. Celebrate differences. Your child isn't broken—they're beautifully wired. Prioritize shared interests over age. Sometimes the best friendships are across generations or centered around passions rather than peer groups. Practice and role-play social skills in low-pressure environments (think: one-on-one meetups, online clubs like our Learner's Lab, or even just chatting with a cool neighbor with a unique hobby). Know that seeking therapy or coaching is a strength, not a weakness—for both kids and parents. A Gentle Reminder: If your child is thriving emotionally, feels seen and supported, and is building their life at their own pace—even if it doesn't look the way you expected—you're doing a great job. Sometimes the most meaningful friendships (and personal growth) take the scenic route.
