It's called 52 Sumner. That's a street address in Springfield, but it's also an intriguing new addition to the arts landscape in Western Mass. — an event space created in the former Faith United Church, one that opened its doors in January and is off to a very fast start. On the next episode of BusinessTalk, George O'Brien, contributing writer at BusinessWest, talks with Angela Park, president of Springfield Performing Arts Ventures Inc., the nonprofit that manages the venue, about how this stunning transformation of the church came about and how it will not only host different kinds of performances, but also immerse people — and especially young people — in the arts. It's must listening, so tune in to BusinessTalk, a podcast presented by BusinessWest.

If you are looking for God in the earthquake, in the fire, or the loud rush of the wind... wait for the silence. Only then, if you listen closely, you can hear God's voice. Many of us find ourselves searching for God in this time. Through her powerful and prophetic speaking, Rev. Andrea Vassell reminds us that God is ever near - in our hearts and in the hearts of others. Through her words, we are invited into a deeper relationship with God, with others, and with ourselves. She reminds us that we are wholly beloved, and that God calls us into relationship with everyone around us. We are each other's care taker.Whether you listen by grabbing a nice hot cup of coffee or tea, using the words to motivate you as you clean your house or you put on your walking shoes, join Pastors Kelsey and Andrea as they bring you this much needed message: God is not in the booming noise, but in the expansive sound of silence deep within your heart.Rev. Andrea Vassell is a native of Jamaica who has lived in New York City for almost 40 years. She is both a pastor in the United Church of Christ and a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience in Women’s Health working in communities throughout the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean. Rev. Andrea Vassell currently serves as the pastor of Faith United Church of Christ in Union, NJ, a 127-year-old multi-cultural, multi-lingual and welcoming congregation. Her commitment to justice and the care of humanity has led to her starting Keeping Our Girls in School - a program that serves to provide menstrual hygiene products to girls who experience period poverty. She believes that no girl’s education should be stopped by her period.

(Matthew 2:1-12) Having taken time in Advent to reflect on and honor the past 125 years of Faith (United) Church, we now face forward and consider the journey ahead.

This message was preached by Pastor Scott Simmons at Faith United Church of Christ on August 19th, 2018. It is the second part of a sermon series titled "How to Neighbor". The number one barrier to loving your neighbors is time. We all think we don't have enough time, yet we all have been given 168 hours each week. The issues is not how much time we have but how we prioritize our lives. If we begin to bring God's priority for loving our neighbors to the forefront of our lives he will give us opportunities. The challenge is, these opportunities most often come in the form of interruptions. Love is able to transform these interruptions into opportunities to love your neighbors.
Scott Simmons is Pastor of Faith United Church of Christ, and shares his deepest thoughts about his ministry. Faith UCC is known for being a very welcoming, supportive environment for anyone wanting to get closer to God, and we hope this candid conversation helps spread the idea that everyone has a place to worship in their own way. Faith UCC has just started posting their own podcast, which you can find here. If you like what you hear, please consider attending a worship service at the church: 4040 E. Thompson Road Indianapolis, IN 46237 317/784-4856
