I remember very clearly the first time that I watched as the ninth Doctor looked on to a chained and diminished Dalek and recoiled back in fear. I realized after that episode and the coinciding podcast that Daleks were a severe threat. Some weeks after the episode, I had a nightmare where I woke up after hearing the Dalek battle cry, “Exterminate!” I’ve seen much more from the Daleks, including an impressive fight between Dalek and Cybermen. Somehow, try as the Doctor might, the Dalek continue to escape annihilation. So now, the Doctor has to battle with them in the depression-era New York, and the whole thing starts in a theater.
