Story #1: Will exposes how cashless bail, failed prosecutors, and soft-on-crime policies kept predators like DeCarlos Brown on the streets to murder Iryna Zyrutska. Will also calls out the media for ignoring the story, or worse, shaming people for noticing, because it doesn't fit their narrative on crime and race. Story #2: Editor of 'National Review' and Author of 'The Case for Nationalism,' Rich Lowry joins Will to discuss the rise of acceptance for socialism, the polling showing Democrats drifting left, and what it means for figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). They also dive into President Donald Trump's impact on conservatism, how his disruption has permanently changed the Republican Party, and why Trump's style succeeds where polite “jawboning” always failed. Story #3: Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo sits down with Will to explain his move to eliminate vaccine mandates in Florida schools. He lays out why the state is shifting toward parental choice, pushes back on the “scientific consensus” argument, and responds to critics who warn of outbreaks. California Agriculture: Fires, Wolves & Farm Labor Reform

Farm City Newsday by AgNet West

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 5, 2025 43:17

Opening Reflections and California Concerns The AgNet News Hour began with hosts Nick Papagni and Lorrie Boyer sharing lighthearted Friday greetings before shifting to California's serious agricultural challenges. Papagni noted worsening Central Valley air quality caused by wildfires, likening the smoke to winter fog. He warned that tensions between state and federal governments over forest management may intensify as fall approaches. Boyer added that federal intervention could even extend to California's 2028 Olympic preparations. Policy Spotlight: Mexican Wolf Debate Boyer reported on a House Natural Resources Subcommittee hearing on the Enhancing Safety for Animals Act of 2025. The legislation would delist the Mexican wolf from the Endangered Species Act, a move supported by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the Arizona and New Mexico Cattle Growers Associations, and the Public Lands Council. Tom Patterson, President-elect of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association, testified that wolf populations have shifted from a livestock concern to a community safety threat, citing attacks on pets, horses, and even children. In regulatory news, the EPA declined stricter wastewater rules for meat and poultry processors, concluding that current Clean Water Act requirements suffice. The National Chicken Council applauded this decision as a balanced approach to water quality regulation. Immigration Reform and the Dignity Act The program's central feature was an interview with Manuel Cunha, President of the Nisei Farmers League, who addressed farm labor shortages and immigration policy. He highlighted the bipartisan Dignity Act (H.R. 4393), introduced by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), as the most promising reform since the early 2000s. The Act includes a three-pronged approach: Long-Term Residents – renewable work authorization cards with penalties for undocumented status. Legal Pathways for New Workers – stronger background checks and legal entry channels. Criminal Entrants – removal of individuals linked to crime or gang activity. Cunha emphasized that the Act also provides protections for Dreamers and addresses Social Security benefits for long-term contributors who have paid into the system for decades. Coyotes, Fear, and Fake Documents Cunha warned about coyotes—human smugglers who charge up to $15,000 per person and often supply migrants with fraudulent documents. Workers fall into debt while employers unknowingly hire with false credentials. He called the system a “disaster” and urged growers to pressure congressional leaders like David Valadao, Jim Costa, Jimmy Panetta, and Vince Fong to support the Dignity Act. Despite federal assurances, many farmworkers still live in daily fear of deportation. Some alter their appearance to avoid suspicion, while enforcement remains concentrated in large metropolitan sanctuary cities. Farm Labor: Hard Work Few Will Do Papagni stressed that farm labor is not unskilled work, pointing to strawberry, lettuce, melon, and table grape harvesting as examples requiring years of expertise. Cunha agreed, noting that domestic welfare recipients are unlikely to take on such demanding jobs—something proven during the 1996–1998 Welfare to Work Program. With many long-time workers nearing retirement and fewer young people entering agriculture, Cunha pressed for a comprehensive guest worker program. A Call to Action Cunha's message to farmers and ag communities was clear: contact your congressional representatives and urge support for the Dignity Act. He highlighted Vince Fong as a key California lawmaker yet to sign on. If passed, the bill would initiate a five- to six-month rule-writing process, during which workers would receive documentation verifying employment, providing immediate protection while regulations are finalized. Farm Income and Market Updates According to the U.S. Economic Research Service (ERS): Net farm income in 2025 is projected at $179.5 billion, up 40.7% from 2024—the second-highest on record. Median farm household income, however, is projected to decline by $1,189 in 2025, reflecting weaker off-farm earnings. Government payments are forecast at $40.5 billion, the highest since 2020. The dairy sector is also strengthening, with exports reaching 18.7% of domestic production in June—the highest since 2022. Domestic yogurt consumption rose 12.2%, while overall use of milk solids grew 3%. Competitiveness and Global Pressures Papagni noted the difficulty of competing with countries paying $10–20 per day compared to California's $16 per hour wages, combined with stricter U.S. regulations. Boyer emphasized that despite higher costs, U.S. agriculture provides the world's safest and most affordable food supply, thanks largely to immigrant labor. Citrus Greening and Global Potato Trends Rick Dantzler of the Citrus Research and Development Foundation reported promising progress in the fight against citrus greening disease. Oxytetracycline trunk injections are showing strong results, with healthier canopies and improved fruit quality, though production costs rose 7%. Meanwhile, the global frozen potato market has shifted dramatically. Between 2019 and 2024, China and India moved from net importers to exporters of frozen fries and processed potato products, expanding markets into Asia and the Middle East. Criminal Provisions in the Dignity Act The legislation also strengthens criminal enforcement, including: Tougher penalties for illegal re-entry after multiple deportations. DNA testing to confirm family ties. Stricter penalties for voting by non-citizens. Increased minimum penalties for child sex trafficking. Boyer linked these provisions directly to combating coyote networks and broader exploitation. Wrapping Up The episode closed with Papagni and Boyer urging farmers to engage in the policy debate, follow updates at AgNetWest.com, and recognize that immigration reform is essential to keeping U.S. agriculture competitive and sustainable.

This mockumentary follows the daily lives and struggles of dreamers in love with journalism, and their less-than-competent co-workers, trying to deliver accurate news without the resources or training to do a great job (TVNZ+). In Flight Jo Conran's son is imprisoned for a murder he denies. A gang blackmails her into smuggling, pushing her into a world of corruption and violence to save her child's life (TVNZ+). Encino residents voiced frustration over recurring fires in the Sepulveda Basin, calling on city leaders for solutions. In the early 1850s, as people continued to flood West, California's booming cities experienced rapid growth, but also turmoil. Meanwhile, women arriving in male-dominated gold country found rare opportunities to thrive in business. And as gold became harder to find, individual prospectors were increasingly squeezed out by those who could employ more expensive – destructive – industrial mining techniques.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! Putting Out Fires and Dancing Among the Flames: Austin Channing Brown on the Work and Joy of Being “Full of Myself”

For The Love With Jen Hatmaker Podcast

Description: Today, Jen has a discussion with her longtime friend, brilliant thought-leader and activist, Austin Channing Brown. You probably know Austin from her viral first book, I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness, which flew off shelves in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd, as we were witnessing worldwide protests, calls for police reform, and a radical change to our racial justice systems. Countless people trusted Austin to help them unpack and understand the racial reckoning going on in our country at that time. Now, Austin is releasing a new project that shares some of her hard-fought learnings gained since that tumultuous time. Full of Myself: Black Womanhood and the Journey to Self-Possession is a love letter to the black women, like Austin herself, who are exhausted from being everything to everyone but themselves. Across essays titled “I Love Myself When I Am Laughing,” “When I Am Awkward,” “When I Am Failing,” and more, Austin celebrates the fullness of her humanity. Each chapter becomes a mirror, asking women—especially Black women—to consider where they've given themselves away and what it would mean to live with self-possession instead. Highlights from this conversation include: What it means to Austin to be “full of herself”—a phrase she reclaimed as an act of resistance, dignity, and spiritual integrity What happens in our bodies when we operate out of alignment with ourselves What it means to be a Black woman striving to live fully in a world that often demands her silence, her labor, and her conformity And the inspirational, life-saving advice that Austin received from activist, Tarana Burke This is such a good conversation starter and one to be shared, for sure. Thought-provoking Quotes: “I'm sick of white people telling me I have to remain in unhealthy workplaces, unhealthy worship spaces, unhealthy towns in order to save them. Everywhere I go, I'm told I should sacrifice myself for the possibility of whiteness getting its shit together.” – Austin Channing Brown “I grew up in an era that we called racial reconciliation. ‘Racial justice' was too hard. It implied that there were two people who had both done wrong and needed to come together. And the way that was often phrased for people of color was that we needed to teach, we needed to offer grace, we needed to bend over backwards, we needed to touch hearts and minds, endless patience, we needed to watch our tone, we needed to be open and inviting. It was all about what we needed to do.” – Austin Channing Brown “There is an integrity, accountability, and power that comes with being full of myself. And there is a lack of needing to please anybody else. Because I'm full of me.” – Austin Channing Brown Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Full of Myself: Black Womanhood and the Journey to Self-Possession by Austin Channing Brown - https://amzn.to/4k0SQI1 I'm Still Here: Reese's Book Club: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown - https://amzn.to/4jElqyn Nikki Giovanni, poet - https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/nikki-giovanni  Zora Neale Hurston - https://www.zoranealehurston.com/ I Love Myself When I Am Laughing And Then Again When I Am Looking Mean & Impressive by Zora Neale Hurston - https://amzn.to/3FVpGvA Tarana Burke - https://www.taranaburke.com/ Guest's Links: Website - https://austinchanning.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/austinchanning/ Twitter - https://x.com/austinchanning Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/austinchanningbrown Substack - https://substack.com/@austinchanning Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this episode of The Wright Report, we cover a dramatic fight over the Federal Reserve, Trump's controversial stake in Intel, his call to double Chinese students in U.S. universities, a Milwaukee judge caught aiding an illegal immigrant, and new research linking everyday health risks to antibiotics, smoking, and infant gut health. From courtroom drama to corporate socialism to medical breakthroughs, today's brief delivers facts that will impact your wallet, your security, and your health. Trump Fires Fed Governor Lisa Cook: President Trump moves to remove Lisa Cook over alleged mortgage fraud, but she refuses to leave and files a lawsuit, insisting, “I have no intention of being bullied to step down.” A resurfaced video shows her calling Trump a fascist and warning of “the road to genocide,” fueling claims she's part of the Resistance inside the Fed. The showdown could head to the Supreme Court to decide whether presidents can fire Fed governors — raising questions about the very future of the Federal Reserve. Trump Buys 10% Stake in Intel: The White House converts $10 billion in chip subsidies into equity, making the U.S. government Intel's largest shareholder. Rand Paul warns this is “a step toward socialism,” while Trump's team calls it a sovereign wealth fund strategy. Critics argue the move won't fix Intel's technical failures, while Bryan cautions, “I don't want that beast to have more power or money or both… I want it to have less.” Trump Calls for 600,000 Chinese Students in U.S. Universities: The president shocks supporters by suggesting more than doubling student visas for China, insisting, “I told President Xi that we're honored to have his students here.” Critics cite espionage risks, noting past cases where Chinese students at the University of Michigan spied on military bases or smuggled bioweapons. Bryan warns, “You don't have to be a former CIA ops officer to see that 600,000 more of these people is not smart policy.” Milwaukee Judge Faces Prison for Aiding Illegal: Judge Hannah Dugan helped an illegal immigrant escape her courtroom to avoid ICE arrest. A federal judge rejected her claim of immunity, ruling, “No one is above the law, even when you're a judge.” She faces up to six years in prison. Meanwhile, Trump fires San Francisco immigration judges granting asylum in 95 percent of cases, ensuring that “it is the law… not personal feelings or politics… that rule the day.” Medical News You Need to Know: Australian researchers find that mixing antibiotics with painkillers like Advil or Tylenol speeds bacterial mutations, fueling antibiotic resistance. Japanese scientists discover how smoking alters gut bacteria to ease colitis symptoms, pointing to new therapies without cigarettes. And a California study shows C-section babies lack critical gut bacteria, raising risks of allergies and asthma. Bryan concludes, “Those bellies matter — starting with mom — and from the very first minutes of our life.”   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32     Keywords: Trump Lisa Cook Fed firing, Lisa Cook mortgage fraud lawsuit, Trump Federal Reserve Supreme Court, Intel government stake 10 percent, Rand Paul Intel socialism warning, Trump Chinese students visas 600000, Chinese espionage University of Michigan, Milwaukee judge Hannah Dugan illegal immigrant case, Trump fires San Francisco immigration judges, antibiotics painkillers resistance study, smoking colitis gut bacteria, infant gut health C-section allergies asthma
