It's been nearly 20 years since Curtis Severns was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison. Convicted of intentionally starting the fire in his gun shop, he would have 7 years left on his sentence, had he not been released early. Severns has maintained his innocence all along. As in many arson cases, he was convicted almost exclusively by the testimony of fire investigators who relied on assumptions that some of the leading arson experts in the country now say are false. In fact, new evidence reveals that Severns did time for a crime he probably didn't commit. Day 1,642.Today, after a parade of robots marks Ukraine's Independence Day, we turn to New York, where the United States has refused to join NATO allies and other partners in calling for Russia to join Ukraine in an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. Meanwhile Britain's Andy Burnham has said he will join European allies in pressuring Donald Trump to provide Patriot missiles to Ukraine – just as Zelensky says Kyiv has received “a few” but “we need more”. We report on the fantastic news for Wildberries and Ozon customers and owners of other large businesses in Russia, as long as you don't read Moscow's small print. Ask a question hereThis week on Mondays Down Under, Lee Salisbury—the Pool Shop Coach—and Nick tackle a question every pool business owner should ask: Are you actually running your business, or are you simply reacting to whichever fire is burning hottest today?Lee introduces her new Business Balance Check, a free assessment designed specifically to identify the areas of your business that need attention most. It examines ten critical areas—including branding, communication, team culture, safety, policies and procedures, and employee autonomy—before revealing whether you're currently operating as the Firefighter, the Glue, the Foreman, or the Owner.Lee and Nick also discuss:Why procedures sitting unread in a binder are nothing more than expensive pieces of paperThe importance of teaching employees the what, how, and whyHow small, one-percent improvements can transform a businessWhy great ideas collected at conferences rarely survive the trip homeHow a coach or mentor creates accountability and turns intention into actionUsing AI to streamline spreadsheets, emails, administration, and repetitive tasksWhy obviously AI-generated advertising can destroy customer trustThe danger of letting software replace genuine technical knowledge and judgmentWhy pool professionals must understand the story behind the water-test resultsCustomers who create a chemical catastrophe—and conveniently forget to mention what they addedThe importance of consistent branding and customer experiences across every touchpointThe episode also includes coverage from SPLASH 2026, featuring new chlorination and pool-control technology from Fluidra, along with commercial salt chlorination, ozone, UV, and advanced oxidation systems from Brauer. And, because no pool-industry episode would be complete without a customer turning a manageable problem into a full-blown aquatic crime scene, Nick shares what happened when someone accidentally dumped approximately eight kilograms of chlorine remover into a 70,000-liter indoor pool—and then attempted to fix it with liquid chlorine and stabilized chlorine.Take the Free Business Balance CheckFind out whether you're operating as the Firefighter, the Glue, the Foreman, or the Owner:The Pool Shop Coach's Business Balance CheckHave a question or topic suggestion for Mondays Down Under? So much for détente. California Attorney General Rob Bonta canceled Monday's planned meeting with Paramount after accusing the company of leaking — and misrepresenting — confidential settlement discussions to the press. “They need to sleep in the bed that they made,” Bonta tells Elaine Low in this bonus episode of Ankler Agenda, blasting Paramount for “playing games” and waging a PR campaign while, he says, losing where it matters: in court. The rupture comes even as Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and several Hollywood guilds have all voiced varying degrees of support for getting the two sides to the table. Does that growing pressure change Bonta's thinking? “Not at all,” he says. But Bonta also makes clear that the door isn't permanently shut. He says he's ready to resume negotiations if Paramount stops the leaks and comes back in good faith — and, for the first time, gets unusually specific about what a deal might require. Forget the chatter about CNN: Bonta says the news network “is not our focus” and that resolving the states' antitrust concerns would require some portion of Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery's combined cable portfolio to be placed under separate ownership. Bonta also explains why behavioral remedies are a nonstarter, says he hopes Republican attorneys general may still join the case, and dismisses as “meritless” and “silly” a request seeking his correspondence with Mark Ruffalo following backlash over the actor's criticism of the Paramount deal. Breaking Free from the Old Gods: The Spiritual War Behind the World System | KIB545 Kingdom Intelligence Briefing DESCRIPTION What if many things modern believers consider normal are actually remnants of a world system from which Christ has called us to separate? In Kingdom Intelligence Briefing Episode 545, Dr. Michael Lake and Mary Lou Lake examine the continuing spiritual battle between the Kingdom of God and the systems of this world. Beginning with the influence of ancient Greek and Roman culture and moving deeply into the Apostle Paul's teaching in Ephesians, this episode challenges the Remnant to recognize just how thoroughly the ways of the old world can become embedded in culture, religion, education, tradition, and everyday life. Dr. Lake focuses particularly on Ephesians 2:1–3, where Paul describes three interconnected dimensions of humanity's former bondage: the world, the devil, and the flesh. But Paul does not leave believers there. Christ has been raised above every ruler and authority, and those who belong to Him have been called into an entirely different Kingdom and way of life. This leads directly into the spiritual warfare of Ephesians 6. The believer's struggle is not merely against bad ideas, political systems, cultural movements, or human opponents. Paul identifies principalities, authorities, cosmic powers over this present darkness, and spiritual forces of evil. The enemy continually schemes to entangle believers in the very system from which Christ delivered them. That makes TRUTH indispensable. The armor of God does not begin with emotionalism, religious excitement, or spiritual spectacle. It begins with the belt of truth. Dr. Lake explains why believers cannot merely SAY that they are putting on the armor of God. The armor must become a lived spiritual reality through obedience, sanctification, prayer, faith, and the renewing of the mind through the Word of God. This episode also examines: · The continuing influence of Greek and Roman religious ideas on Western civilization · Ancient gods, principalities, and the spiritual warfare behind human systems · Why Paul was uniquely prepared to confront Greco-Roman culture with biblical truth · Ephesians 2:1–3 and the world, the flesh, and the prince of the power of the air · Why Christ's authority is greater than every principality and power · How cultural traditions can pull believers back toward the world system · Why true biblical Christianity will never comfortably conform to darkness · The spiritual meaning of the armor of God · Why spiritual warfare is an ongoing wrestling match · Emotionalism versus genuine conversion and transformation · Why forgiveness is essential in breaking the enemy's influence · Torah as the loving instruction of God · Jesus as the perfect example of walking in the Father's ways · The brazen laver, the altar, and becoming a living sacrifice · Why the Remnant must learn again to discern clean from unclean and good from evil · How believers can begin disentangling themselves from the world system one decision at a time The early Church could not be conquered by persecution because believers possessed the Scriptures, the testimony of Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Dr. Lake argues that abandoning the biblical foundations of the faith has left much of the modern Church unable to discern good from evil and vulnerable on the spiritual battlefield. The answer is not fear. The answer is a return to God. Every time we choose God's ways instead of the ways of the world, another strand connecting us to the world system is broken. Every act of obedience removes another avenue through which darkness attempts to influence our lives. The Kingdom of God is coming. Daniel 2:44 declares that God will establish a Kingdom that will never be destroyed. Revelation 11:15 announces: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever." And that Kingdom can begin reigning within the hearts and lives of God's people RIGHT NOW. The Remnant must prepare. It is time to hunger for the Word of God again. It is time to learn His ways. It is time to recognize the schemes of the enemy. It is time to become disentangled from the world system. And it is time to walk as citizens of the Kingdom of God. Does Black American culture actually exist—and why does the question create so much tension between Black Americans, Africans, and the wider diaspora? In this heated reaction and panel breakdown, Marquett responds to claims questioning the legitimacy and influence of Black American culture. He examines arguments surrounding language, music, history, economics, identity, immigration, African nations, cultural influence, and the relationship between Black Americans and other communities throughout the African diaspora. The conversation quickly becomes personal as disagreements emerge over who has the authority to speak on Black American culture, whether criticism crosses into disrespect, and why conversations about heritage and identity can become so emotionally charged.Marquett also argues that Black American cultural influence can be seen globally through music, language, entertainment, fashion, historical figures, entrepreneurship, and other institutions—even when that influence becomes so mainstream that its origins are overlooked. This discussion covers:* The claim that Black Americans “have no culture”* African vs. Black American perspectives* Black American influence on global music and entertainment* Culture, language, dialect, customs, and identity* Tensions within the African diaspora* Immigration and cultural ownership* The economic influence of Black Americans* Respect, disagreement, and accountability in public debate* Why cultural conversations become personal so quicklyThis video contains commentary, criticism, and strong opinions from the speakers involved. A frequent location of summer wildfires, eastern Washington State, is suffering one of the most destructive fires seasons in memory. Fires on the Confederate Tribes of Colville Reservation have prompted evacuations and destroyed more than 50 homes and other structures. They are among the some 700 buildings destroyed in the current fire season in the state. On Oregon's Warm Springs Reservation, fires started early and were fueled by persistent winds. In addition to coping with the fires, the community is now facing worries about having adequate clean drinking water. Fires in Washington and Oregon have charred more than three million acres so far. Elizabeth Goldman is a co-director of Global Nature Watch, previously known as Global Forest Watch, a database measuring forest loss that's frequently cited in Mongabay reporting. She joins this week's podcast to detail GNW's updated 25-year analysis of global forest fire trends. The picture is stark: Forest fires burn twice as much forest today as they did 20 years ago, and historic fire seasons are the "new normal," she says. "Catastrophic, large-scale fires are becoming more of a normal. The last three years are the worst three years in the record-keeping in our data set," Goldman says. "Fires now burn twice as much forest as they did earlier in the time series from our data." 2025, considered a drop from 2024, still saw 11 million hectares (27 million acres) of forest, an area roughly the size of Guatemala, burn. Rhett Butler, founder and CEO of Mongabay, published an analysis of the dip in 2025, cautioning readers against reading too much into what appeared to be a reprieve. He noted that large-scale commodity agriculture and climate change, the causes of this forest loss, remain. Goldman agrees. In the absence of "serious action" internationally to combat it, and commodity-driven agriculture that continues contributing to these fires, Goldman says there are things governments can do to mitigate their risk locally. "There are ways to sustainably manage a forest, like through thinning and prescribed burns, fire breaks, those sorts of things that don't involve clear-cutting an entire forest, but leave the tree standing, leave the healthy ecosystem there, but are still kind of managing the fuel load," she says. Sustainable management and strengthening Indigenous rights and resources is another cited need, Goldman says, a point raised in a previous Newscast conversation with Erica Gies, who reported on the work of forestry scientist Suzanne Simard. "Results show that 60% coverage really does maintain a lot of the complexity of the forest and those forest relationships and a healthy hydrology, keeping the land from drying … in some ecosystems it seems like 30% might be enough, but definitely clear-cutting seems to not be sustainable," Gies said in that conversation. You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for August 10, 2026. We kick things off with Iran's audacious demand for war reparations from the United States — and President Trump's brilliant response that flips the script and opens up Iran's own record of terror funding, hostage-taking, and brutality against its own people for the world to see. Then we run through the Top 3 things you need to know: President Trump's executive order spacing out childhood vaccines and trimming the recommended schedule, the DOJ's lawsuit against New York, Connecticut, and Vermont over in-state tuition for illegal aliens, and the Pentagon renaming Joint Base Charleston to Joint Base Lindsey Graham in honor of the late senator. We dig into the disturbing pattern of violence in the WNBA, including the flagrant hit on Sophie Cunningham, and ask our American Mamas whether Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White should be allowed to play in the WNBA after applying under the league's gender rules. We break down new numbers showing marijuana use has overtaken both daily cigarette and alcohol use in America — and why that should worry us more than it does. In Digging Deep, we expose how a soft-on-crime plea deal in Maricopa County let a confessed murderer walk free, only for him to allegedly torch 700 homes in Spokane, Washington. We also cover the discovery that British Royal Navy sea drones have been caught communicating with a server in China. There's a Bright Spot in new Gallup polling showing more Americans — especially Republicans — believe parents should be married before having kids. We call out the University of Michigan for hiding freshman grades behind a pass/no-credit system that shields students from the consequences that build real character. And we close by remembering Ben Jones, the actor who played Cooter on The Dukes of Hazzard and went on to serve in Congress, who passed away this weekend at 85. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. Day 1,627.Today, after a weekend that may have seen a record number of drones launched across Ukraine and Russia, we examine what it is actually like to endure a ballistic missile attack – and how different that experience is from a drone barrage. Then, as Kyiv and other cities come under constant bombardment from weapons Ukrainian air defences cannot reliably intercept, we assess the arguments made by some that Ukraine's increasingly ambitious strikes inside Russia could give Vladimir Putin the pretext he needs to mobilise hundreds of thousands more men. We also answer your questions about what Kyiv can realistically do to solve its missile crisis, revealing why President Donald Trump appears to have reversed course over giving Ukraine the blueprints needed to manufacture Patriot missiles.Contributors: Francis Dearnley (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @FrancisDearnley on X.Antonia Langford (Freelance Journalist in Kyiv). @Antonialford on X.With thanks to RAND engineer Michael Bohnert. @mbohnert on X.Producer: Rachel PorterSenior Producer: Lilian FawcettVideo Producer: Sophie O'SullivanSocial Producer: Tom SteedStudio Director: Meghan SearleExecutive Editor: Francis DearnleyCreated by David KnowlesNOW IN FULL VIDEO WITH MAPS & BATTLEFIELD FOOTAGE:Every episode is now available on our YouTube channel shortly after the release of the audio version. The summer of 2026 has been defined by the smoke — and the horror — of wildfires around the world. But what comes after one of these fires? "That isn't the end of the story. That's the beginning of a whole different kind of story," says Nlaka'pamux ecologist Jennifer Grenz. That's why we have decided to follow the long-term story of one 21st century megafire: the 2021 McKay Creek wildfire in interior B.C. Producer Pauline Holdsworth returned in September 2025 — four years after the fire — to find new life emerging from the ashes, and new questions about the road ahead. This is the latest episode in our ongoing series Healing the Land. In this between-episodes offering of The Moon in Carolina, host (and occasional storyteller) Shelby Bundy shares a short story she wrote in the depths of a past winter. The Fires is inspired by the old manor she lives in and the ghosts she lives with — written as part of her Literature and Creative Writing Master's program at Harvard, and shared here for the first time. Settle in for a little story about an old house in Appalachia.

From our latest podcast, we have two NFL media storylines that are still intriguing with training camps getting underway.Host T.J. Rives and Tyler Jones of Roundtable Sports and "The Jones Report" Podcast first discuss the situation with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, who is still recovering from his serious traffic accident in Palo Alto, CA, last month. More details have emerged, but Shanahan has yet to comeback to coach the team full time, met with all the media and the cameras and there are still unanaswered questions.Next, in Pittsburgh, controversial QB Aaron Rodgers went on the verbal attack Monday on the live "Pat McAfee Show" from traning camp to basically take a vindicated "victory lap" about his stances on the Covid 19 virus and required shots. He not only taunted embattled health worker Anthony Fauci for having taken the 5th ammendment 100 times at a Senate hearing, but also, took shots at ESPN, the very platform McAfee broadcasts on weekdays.Tyler and T.J. discuss the ramifications for ESPN and how much more motivated is the 42 year old Rodgers to continue this attitude, etc.?It's all on this edition of the "LWOS Media Daily" and make sure to follow/subscribe to this feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.

If we learned one thing about primary voters in Missouri and Kansas it's that they love them some government and taxes. Holy smokes did the Missouri income tax elimination get crushed and the voters of Kansas are simply not interested in electing Supreme Court justices. Let's just keep getting taxed and have the goverment do what it wants. Wow. Almost all of the winners around our two states were the most well known candidates, we'll go over the winners and losers. Also, I went to the polls twice as I voted on Monday and took my mom to vote Tuesday. Two different locations had one thing in common with the poll workers. In sports, here comes the hype about the NBA moving to KC. It's enough to make me want to take a nap. A website called www.defector.com does a series of comedy articles about why your NFL team will suck in 2026 and the Chiefs story is pretty funny. Mizzou checks in at #25 in the college football coaches poll and an 85 year old actress is breaking new ground in our Final Final.

Jase, Al, and Zach trace the roots of socialism, scarcity, and abortion back to a worldview that rejects God's design for humanity. Zach argues that socialism runs against the Biblical command to cultivate, create, and expand, while Jase connects that same survival mindset to ancient child sacrifice and the modern lie that children are liabilities. Al examines Jesus' warnings about Gehenna and shows how the Bible ties justice to the way people treat those made in God's image.
