Interview by Kris PetersThis Friday, May 8, California's legendary iconic band Social Distortion release their eighth studio album, Born To Kill, via Epitaph Records.Born To Kill is more than the conclusion to a 15-year wait between Social Distortion albums, it's a revelation: 11 songs of pure, unadulterated rock 'n' roll fury, joy and catharsis, all imbued with the signature blend of defiance and world-weariness that has made founder Mike Ness a poet and sage to the dispossessed for more than 40 years. The first Social Distortion album since Ness' recovery from a bout with cancer, Born To Kill brims with aggressive optimism. The album wastes no time letting the listener know where its heart is, with its title track and mission statement dropping nods to Lou Reed (Rock 'n' Roll Animal gonna come your way!) and Iggy and the Stooges (“The agenda is yeah to Search and Destroy”) and a homage to David Bowie (“It's a Rock 'n' Roll Suicide”) following a few songs later on Partners In Crime. This is a man, a band and a record that wear their influences proudly while creating timeless anthems and ballads that both chart Social Distortion's path forward and celebrate its storied past: Tonight and The Way Things Were are emotionally charged reminiscences in the vein of classics like Story of My Life from the band's eponymous 1990 breakthrough and I Was Wrong from 1996's White Light, White Heat, White Trash, the latter containing a potent distillation of the Social D ethos: "I wrote a song with a stolen riff / If you ain't got a song you ain't got shit.”HEAVY sat down for an interesting chat with Ness about the new album, the history of Social Distortion and much, much more. One of the early questions was about expectation and if he felt any outside pressure due to the length of time since 2011's Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes?"I mean, a little bit," Ness measured. "I mean, I didn't mean for 15 years to go by, but a lot of things in life came up in the last 15 years. But I did know it was definitely a thought in the forefront of my mind that when it was time to make this record, it couldn't be a sleeper. It needed to be... it needed to get people's attention."We ask Mike to dive deeper into the musicality on Born To Kill and what he was going for this time around."With every record you want to try and reinvent yourself," he replied, pausing to reflect. "But for me it was as simple as just going back to the late 70s and the music I was listening to, just to inspire me. It was a chance to pay homage, if you will, to some of my idols and play around with some different grooves and rhythms. I tried to go back to a little bit more primitive style. Primitive is good (smiles)."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Send us a textFrank stops by the show to discuss his solo record, his childhood adventures with his brother and so much more. *****Living Between the Lines is the debut solo LP from Frank Meyer. A long time coming, Meyer's been hinting at it for a while now with Bandcamp exclusive tracks, covers on tribute albums, acoustic solo shows, and his acclaimed collaboration album with Eddie Spaghetti of the Supersuckers. Like the Eddie collab, LBTL is out on Kitten Robot Records. The 11-song album adds touches of blues and soul to Meyer's expected high-energy rock ‘n 'roll, revealing a more mature voice. He is joined for duets by longtime friend and collaborator Lisa Kekaula of the Bellrays on the title track, Runaways icon Cherie Currie on “Piece of Me” and Spaghetti himself on “Partners In Crime.”An award-winning musician, filmmaker and author, Meyer has a track record that covers rock ‘n 'roll, punk, heavy metal, blues, and country. Known for his work with everyone from Rock ‘n 'Roll Hall of Famers James Williamson (Iggy & the Stooges) and Wayne Kramer (MC5) to legendary punk act FEAR, Meyer has carved out a career full of unlikely collaborations, hard work, searing guitar playing, and ace songwriting skills.“It meant a lot to have these particular vocalists join me on my solo debut,” says Meyer. “Lisa and I go way back to my earliest days of the music scene in L.A.. Eddie is also an ld friend and touring buddy, and was a big inspiration in making this album. Cherie saw the Streewalkin' Cheetahs early on and helped us get signed. So all of them are dear to me and have been integral in my career.”As kids, Frank and his brother (actor Breckin Meyer) put on plays and lip-sync concerts for their parents. By age 12, lil 'Frankie was playing guitar, writing songs and recording at Frank Zappa's house with his childhood friends Ahmet and Dweezil. By age 15, he was gigging professionally around the ‘80s Hollywood club scene with his teenage high school band. In the mid-'90s, Meyer formed punk act the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, who went on to record many acclaimed albums, tour the world and carve out a niche as one of L.A.'s hardest working, hardest rocking bands. The band remains active with new releases and reissues out in stores on Rum Bar Records, Heavy Medication Records, and Ghost Highway Records, plus European and US touring activity.*****If you would like to contact the show about being a guest, please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comUpcoming guests can be found: https://dmneedom.com/upcoming-guest Follow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. Heute machen wir einen Ausflug nach Amerika, in die USA und nach Brasilien. Something that often confuses Western audiences about the Palestinian struggle is how some Arab states, who would be expected to support the Palestinians, in actual fact have deep relations with the Israeli state. This, among other issues such as a potential future Israeli-Saudi normalisation deal are the topic of Part 3: Arab Normalisation. In this episode, we bring you the insights of Dr. Imad Harb, director of research and analysis at the Arab Institute in Washington DC.
Sometimes it takes two detectives to crack the case. Fortunately, each of these radio mysteries has a dynamic duo on the scene. First, Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons and his partner Mike Kelly solve "The Case of the Ruthless Murderers" (originally aired on CBS on October 27, 1949). Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin take their final bow on the air in "The Case of Room 304" (originally aired on NBC on April 27, 1951). Sgt. Joe Friday and Officer Frank Smith are on the trail of counterfeiters in "The Big Listen" from Dragnet (originally aired on NBC on January 5, 1954). Finally, married sleuths Pat and Jean Abbott investigate "The Green-Eyed Divorcee" (AFRS rebroadcast from NBC on May 8, 1955).

We'd say Partners in Crime is the long-awaited rebirth of one of the best TARDIS teams ever, but that sounds way too dramatic for the Doctor and Donna. After all, they're just a couple of mates mucking about in time and space, helping out where they can, and having a few laughs, right? Emphasis on that last part: the kickoff to David Tennant's final season as Ten definitely tickles the funny bone — not only thanks to his reunion with Catherine Tate but also Sarah Lancashire's brilliant turn as baddie nanny Miss Foster. And it wouldn't be a Russell T Davies joint if we didn't mix in some family drama to ensure those jokes pack an emotional punch. Tennant and Tate are the centerpiece, though — the bloom will never fall off that Rose… Give your own rating for Partners in Crime on Spotify! Clayton from 'Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies' joins Sean for a brand new side-series. The Donna Noble Chronicles will explore every episode from 2006-2010 which starred Catherine Tate as Donna, from 'The Runaway Bride' to 'The End of Time'. This second episode explores the Series Four opener: Partners in Crime. Discussion Points: -The characterisation of Donna Noble in this episode. -The quality of this episode. -Clayton thinks Tennant and Tate are the ultimate duo, ever. Sean thinks he is being silly. -The power of a Health and Safety badge. -The performance of Sarah Lancashire. -The noise of the Adipose. -*Lance not Lawrence. -Sean introduces Clayton to the word 'ginnel'. -The fantastic moment where the Doctor looks up and realises that he is alone in the TARDIS. -Clayton isn't a fan of The Voyage of the Damned. -The iconic reunion scene and the brilliant ending scene with Wilf. Raised Questions: -Did they soften Donna in this re-introductory episode? -Are all New-Who companions in love with the Doctor? -Is this episode better than you remember? -How many floors does that building have? -Has this episode become more topical? -Did you pick up on the 'Super-Nanny' look of Miss Foster? -Does anyone want a podcast concerned with Data Protection? -Do you miss the moments when the Doctor goes into the darker side of his character? -Is it plausible to hide in a toilet cubicle for 6 hours? -Which scene did they leave out of the press screening?
