The 11-time Grammy winner has teamed up with Elton John on a new album, “Who Believes in Angels?” The record's title track is all about the realities of working with someone you admire. Earlier this year, Brandi joined Tom Power to introduce us to the song and tell us more about her collaboration with Elton.

Elton has no idea what Kraftwerk is. And some music has too many notes in it.

Dan returns to the program to explore how AI is advancing genetic research, from protein engineering to gene editing and risk prediction. One of the most significant breakthroughs in this space is AlphaFold, DeepMind's AI model that predicts protein structures with unprecedented accuracy. While it does not analyze genetic sequences directly, its ability to model protein folding is transforming drug development and protein engineering. Dan also discusses the potential for AI to improve polygenic risk prediction, where machine learning models are being applied to assess disease risk based on genetic markers. We have a Grammy legend on the podcast this week, 11 time winner, it's singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile! Brandi schlepped to New Cross from Windsor where she is staying with her best friend, Sir Elton John. She is about to release a brand new album with Elton, and we heard all about how the album came about - and that the entire process was filmed for a documentary too. Brandi also shared that she lives on a compound in Washington state with all of her close friends and family, that she got married to her wife in London, all about her regular jamming sessions with Joni Mitchell (with wine and Mexican food dished up for everyone!), that it was thanks to Sir Paul McCartney that she met her wife, plus she has THE best idea pitch to Ben & Jerry's for their new Ice Cream flavour - Candy Bar-lile!
