Connacht Rugby and the IRFU have announced the appointment of Stuart Lancaster as the club's new Head Coach. Lancaster has signed a two-year contract and arrives at the province with a wealth of coaching experience at the highest level of the sport, across all three major European leagues and at international level. He most recently served as Head Coach of Racing 92 in France, and before then enjoyed a hugely successful seven-year spell as Senior Coach of Leinster Rugby. With primary responsibility for the day-to-day coaching of the team, he helped lead Leinster to four consecutive PRO14 titles and four Champions Cup finals, including victory in the 2018 decider. As the news broke, Galway Bay FM's William Davies joined John Morley and Darren Kelly on Galway Talks. == He made the move to Leinster after four years as Head Coach of the England national team, with whom he led for four Six Nations campaigns and the 2015 Rugby World Cup in his native country. He was appointed to that role after four years as the RFU's Head of Elite Player Development, where his primary remit was to help young players realise their potential at club and international level. Lancaster began his coaching career over 20 years ago, as Head of Academy at Leeds RFU. He was then appointed Head Coach of the Leeds Tykes in 2006, leading them to promotion to the English Premiership in his first year in charge. After a further year as Head Coach, he was promoted to the RFU. As Head Coach, Lancaster will also have responsibility for defence, thereby completing next season's coaching team. Joining him will be new attack coach Rod Seib, scrum & contact coach Cullie Tucker, and lineout & maul coach John Muldoon. Lancaster will take up the role in time for the beginning of pre-season training in July, and will be formally presented to the media and wider Connacht supporters next month.
Galway made it two wins from two in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship on Saturday (31st May 2025) after a resounding 4-26 to 0-5 victory over Derry in Owenbeg. First half goals from Mairead Dillon, Aoife Donohue, Sabina Rabbitte and another green flag after the break for Caoimhe Kelly allowed the Tribeswomen pull off a comfortable result. Afterwards, Galway manager Cathal Murray joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly on the QFinancial.ie Saturday Sports Show. == Galway now have two wins from two and top Group 2 with six points. Waterford beat Kilkenny 0-17 to 0-10 to leave both of them on three points; with Derry and Dublin yet to score. In Group 1, All-Ireland champions beat Tipperary 3-21 to 1-9; while Limerick overcame Wexford 1-10 to 0-10.

Two Ardrahan hurlers led their respective inter-county teams to All-Ireland championship silverware in Croke Park on Saturday (31st May 2025). With plenty of Galway involvement across the three games taking place, Conor Cosgrove got the distinction of lifting the Nicky Rackard Cup for Roscommon following their thrilling 3-16 to 1-21 win over Mayo. And not long after leading his team to national silverware, Conor Cosgrove joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly on the QFinancial.ie Saturday Sports Show. == Then 2017 Galway All-Ireland winner Jonathan Glynn made it a historic day for his club, and his adopted county, as New York won the Lory Meagher Cup with a 4-17 to 2-17 victory over Cavan. It could be a case of winner takes all on Sunday (1st June 2205) when Galway travel to Derry in Round 2 of the group stages of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. After opening day defeats for both counties, defeat could result in elimination from the All-Ireland championship. In Galway's case, they would need Dublin to beat Armagh if they lose to the Oak Leaf County. The Tribemen's record though is superb with five wins from as many championship meetings. Leading up to the game, former Galway player Barry Cullinane joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly on 'Over The Line' to look ahead to the contest.
