Galway produced a stunning comeback in the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Hurling Final in Laois Hire O'Moore Park, Portlaoise on Monday (18th May 2026) to win a second ever title after extra time. The Tribesmen trailed 3-15 to 1-9 with 14 minutes remaining before storming back into contention in the final quarter to level at 3-15 apiece when the full time whistle went. Cillian Power got their first goal before green flags from Tadhg Mac Cárthaigh and Anthony Poniard instigated a Lazarus like recovery. In the extra 20 minutes, Galway shaded their opponents by 0-5 to 0-4 to win a first Hanrahan Cup since 2023. Presentation College Athenry are the FAI Schools First Year Girls National Cup champions following a 3-2 victory over St. Mary's High School, Midleton in Jackman Park, Limerick on Monday (18th May 2026). Róisín Hannon struck twice for the Galway school to overturn an early one goal deficit, before Aoibheann Burkes's goal on 31 minutes ensured this was Athenry's day. Basketball Ireland will honour it's annual award winners next weekend at an event to be held at the Osprey Hotel in Naas, Co. Kildare on Saturday, May 23rd. Connacht are through to the BKT United Rugby Championship quarter-finals following a 26-5 bonus point victory over Edinburgh at the Hive Stadium on Friday (15th May 2026). Two Shamus Hurley-Langton tries along with Josh Ioane and Matthew Devine crossing the whitewash gave Connacht a first win at the Scottish venue since 2020. With Ulster going down 26-22 to Glasgow Warriors, it means Connacht will be back in action in two weeks time. But they'll have to wait at least another 24 hours before they know if this result is good enough to play in next season's Champions Cup. The Gymnastics Ireland National Championships take place at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena this weekend (Saturday-Sunday, 16th-17th May 2026) with plenty of Galway involvement. One person many eyes will be on is 10-time Irish champion Emma Slevin from Renmore Gymnastics Club who'll be competing in four different appartuses on Sunday (floor, valut, balance beam and uneven bars). It's the Claregalway gymnast's first trip back to Ireland since playing her part in making history with University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. The 13th seeds surprised all by reaching a first ever NCAA National Championships in Texas last month, only just missing out on a bronze medal. Ahead of her latest attempt at national silverware, Emma Slevin joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly for a chat.

St. Cuan's Castleblakeney are through to the FAI Schools 1st Year Boys ‘B' National Cup Final following a 3-1 victory over Donegal's Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair on Thursday (14th May 2026). Keelan Murray was the star with a hat-trick at Ray MacSharry Park, Sligo as they booked a final meeting with ERSS Carrick-on-Suir next Thursday (21st May). Galway and Dublin clash in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship this Saturday (16th May 2026) with the winners virtually guaranteed a place in next month's provincial final. Both teams are unbeaten after three rounds. The Tribesmen are on maximum points, while the only blemish for the Metropolitians was a draw on Day 1 against Offaly. Galway were five point winners when they met last year (0-29 to 3-15) but the Dubs knocked the maroon and white out of the championship when they last visited Salthill in 2024 (2-27 to 1-24).
