After final defeats in 2023 and 2024, Tuam Stars made it third time lucky against Corofin on Friday (4th July 2025) as they were crowned Division 1 Football League champions in Tuam Stadium. After taking an 0-8 to 0-3 interval lead, a second half goal from Jack Grugan helped the victors build an eigtht point advantage before the title holders closed the gap. After 13 wins from as many games in 2025, the business end of the All-Ireland senior ladies football championship begins for Galway on Saturday (5th July 2025) when they host Waterford in the quarter-final. Both teams are unbeaten so far with the Tribeswomen topping their group, while the Deise had one win and one draw and only finished runners-up to Dublin on scoring difference. The last time they met in the championship was the 2019 quarter-final when Tracey Leonard scoring 1-5 in a 1-12 to 2-4 victory in Peares Park, Longford. But Waterford did relegate Galway from Division 1 last year and finished 3rd in the top tier themselves this spring. The visitors led at half-time thanks to Ademipo Odubeko's 25th-minute strike. Skehana-Mountbellew-Moylough are the JFW Renewables Division 3 Hurling League champions following this one-point victory over Kinvara in Kenny Park, Athenry on Friday (27th June 2025). The victors overcame a poor start, going four points down before Oisín Lohan's goal gave the north Galway team a 1-10 to 0-10 interval lead. Kinvara came back after the restart with Darragh Helebert, who finished with 1-10, forcing parity. But Ger Flahive's ninth point of the evening proved to be the winner. Galway meet Meath this Sunday (29th June 2025) in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-final, looking to make back-to-back appearances in the All-Ireland semi-finals for the first time since they were last crowned champions in 2001. They beat the Royals 0-17 to 0-8 in the All-Ireland Final that year and currently lead the Leinster side 4-3 in their head-to-head. However, Meath won the last two meetings in qualifiers in 2007 and 2011. The Tribesmen will be strong favourites, but Meath have beaten Dublin and Kerry on their way to the final eight, and Robbie Brennan's team are looking to reach the final four for the first time since 2009. Galway's under-14s are within 60 minutes of back-to-back titles when they clash with Cork in the All-Ireland Platinum decider on Sunday (8th June 2025). The Tribesgirls are unbeaten all season, beating Mayo in the Connacht Final before overcoming Tyrone (3-15 to 1-9) and Clare in the semi-final (5-9 to 0-14). Cork were Munster champions but did go down 3-5 to 2-4 to Galway in the National Festival of Football. Connacht Rugby and the IRFU have announced the appointment of Stuart Lancaster as the club's new Head Coach. Lancaster has signed a two-year contract and arrives at the province with a wealth of coaching experience at the highest level of the sport, across all three major European leagues and at international level. He most recently served as Head Coach of Racing 92 in France, and before then enjoyed a hugely successful seven-year spell as Senior Coach of Leinster Rugby. With primary responsibility for the day-to-day coaching of the team, he helped lead Leinster to four consecutive PRO14 titles and four Champions Cup finals, including victory in the 2018 decider. As the news broke, Galway Bay FM's William Davies joined John Morley and Darren Kelly on Galway Talks. == He made the move to Leinster after four years as Head Coach of the England national team, with whom he led for four Six Nations campaigns and the 2015 Rugby World Cup in his native country. He was appointed to that role after four years as the RFU's Head of Elite Player Development, where his primary remit was to help young players realise their potential at club and international level. Lancaster began his coaching career over 20 years ago, as Head of Academy at Leeds RFU. He was then appointed Head Coach of the Leeds Tykes in 2006, leading them to promotion to the English Premiership in his first year in charge. After a further year as Head Coach, he was promoted to the RFU. As Head Coach, Lancaster will also have responsibility for defence, thereby completing next season's coaching team. Joining him will be new attack coach Rod Seib, scrum & contact coach Cullie Tucker, and lineout & maul coach John Muldoon. Lancaster will take up the role in time for the beginning of pre-season training in July, and will be formally presented to the media and wider Connacht supporters next month.
