In his first professional tournament on the Alps Tour on Thursday (19th February 2026), Portumna's Sam Murphy held his nerve to hold off the chasing pack and take victory at the Ein Bay Open in Suez, Egypt. He beat Dublin's Robert Moran by two shots at the finish for a dream debut. The 23-year-old Glenlo Abbey golfer, where he is trained by Gary Madden, finished on 11-under-par to take an early lead on the Order of Merit. It's the first of three events in Egypt for the former Irish boys champion, who has overcome multiple injuries during his amateur career to earn this chance and take home the first prize of €6,200. Following a practice session, he took time out to join Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly on 'Saturday Sport' to chat about the last few days and his plans for the year ahead. == Sam will tee off in his second three-day event, the Red Sea Little Venice Open, on Sunday (22nd) before heading off to Cairo next Friday (27th) for the New Giza Open.

Ireland Senior Men's Basketball international Jordan Blount spoke to Galway Bay FM's Sean Carley ahead of Ireland's EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifiers against Luxembourg and Azerbaijan. St. Joseph's The Bish came up just short in the Connacht Post Primary Schools Senior B Football Final on Friday (13th February 2026) as a strong St. Nathy's from Roscommon were five-point winners at the Connacht GAA Centre, Bekan. Shane Rather struck a second-half goal to bring the Galway side back into contention, but their opponents were always in front. Dean Casey set up both goals for James Cassidy and Oran Frain. Following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Drogheda United last week, Galway United are on the road this Friday (13th February 2026) to St. Patrick's Athletic. It's not been a happy hunting ground for John Caulfield's men in recent times, having drawn twice and lost three times in their last five visits, including last year's FAI Cup quarter-final after extra-time. Galway United last won in Inchicore in the FAI Cup in 2017, but their last league victory was a 3-1 success in March 2026 thanks to goals from Vinny Faherty, John Sullivan and Enda Curran. Not just did he represent his county for 12 years, and the club for 20, he also recently managed Athenry's camogie team to a first All-Ireland senior title since 1977. University of Galway intermediate also completed their own Third Level National championship double on Sunday (8th February 2026) as they hit the ground running before a comfortable victory over Trinity in the Fr. Meaghair Cup Final in DCU. Leah Murphy struck a first-half hat-trick, while Aoife Ní Driscoll found the net twice. Caoimhe Callaghan put in a player of the match performance with the teams jointly captained by Jennifer Nicholas and Aoife O'Donovan. Louise 'The Irish Bull' Creaven continued her impressive resume at the Eclipse Night Club, Brisbane on Saturday (7th February 2026) when she beat New Zealand's Macca 'The Devil's Child' Jean by split decision in a six-round welterweight contest. The co-main event was the first time a women's fight was on an NKT boxing card, and Killimordaly native Creaven did enough to ensure her fifth win in six fights, setting herself up for a potential Australian title opportunity later in the year.
