The All-Ireland Masters Hurling Championship makes its return this August with Galway one of seven teams to take part. The Tribesmen won this competition in 2005 when a team featuring Joe Cooney, Michael 'Hopper' McGrath, who scored six points, and goalscorer Pat Higgins beat Tipperary 1-19 to 0-9. Training gets underway on July 7th in Claregalway with action beginning at the end of August. Looking ahead to the season, Galway manager Ben Mangan joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly on 'Over The Line.'

Galway will have seven representatives among the seven Ireland teams that conteact the FIMBA Maxi European Masters Basketball Championships which begins in Pesaro, Italy from Friday (21st June 2024) running until Sunday week (30th June). Claregalway's Mike Murray and Maigh Cuilinn's Nollaig Cunningham represent Ireland in the men's over 50s who'll compete against Spain and Serbia in Pool G. They'll begin against Serbia at 9.30am Irish time on Saturday. Mike Murray is also the Basketball Ireland Masters Lead and he has been chatting to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly. == Elsewhere, Claregalway's Georgina Ní Hasa Martin is part of the Ireland women's over 40 squad who go up against Germany and Austria. They'll start against Germany on Sunday at 4.30pm Irish time. Oughterard's Harry Walsh and Galway's Kevin Gannon are with the men's over 60s who meet Germany and South Korea. They start on Saturday at 7.45am against the Germans. And Claregalway's David McAndrew manages the Ireland women's over-60 team and is joined by Titans coach Mike Lydon. Galway's under-14 ladies footballers chase a third All-Ireland title this Saturday (8th June 2024) when they clash with Cavan in the Platinum Final. The Tribesgirls had previous success in 2010 and 2017 against Dublin and Kerry respectively, while the current group are unbeaten in 10 championship games so far. Orna Dunne's goal was crucial in a 1-13 to 1-10 semi-final success against Kildare. But Cavan also come into this decider unblemished and were comprehensive victors against Tyrone at the penultimate hurdle. Galway come into this game following a win over Dublin in round one and drawing with Wexford last weekend.
