Sarah Billings ran 1:58.89 in the 800m Final won by Audrey Werro in her breakout season. Abbey Caldwell ran 3:58.64 to place 6th in the 1500m with Jess Hull ninth in 3:59.97 as Klaudia Kazmierska won in 3:57.55 to hold off Georgia Hunter-Bell. Jess Hull then backed up to place second in the 5000m in a personal best time of 14:32.39, behind winner Likina Amebaw while Rose Davies ran 14:35.64 to place sixth. Results via World Athletics   Knox were the surprise winners of the Men's Premier Division of the XCR Tan Relays to end the season, beating Ballarat Region and Mentone, while Seth O'Donnell ran the fastest lap of the Tan in 10:30. Sandringham remained true to form to win the Women's Premier Division ahead of Western Athletics and Melbourne Uni. Cian Kavanagh gave the hosts a 1-0 lead on eight minutes before Jimmy Keohane converted the first of two Galway United penalties 10 minutes later. Stephen Walsh put United ahead on 39 minutes before Keohane wrapped up the points four minutes from time.  United move up to sixth, but are still only three points ahead of the relegation places. Galway United suffered a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat away to Athlone Town in their Club Orange Women's FAI Cup semi-final on Saturday evening (22nd August 2026). Cara Griffin's superb equaliser on 71 minutes put the visitors to Athlone Town Stadium back on terms and the sides couldn't be separated in the final 20 minutes and in the extra half hour that followed. Lucy-Jayne Grant, Eve Dossen and Anna McGough found the net with their resulting penalties but unfortunately for Isabella Beletic and Niamh Farrelly, they were denied. Galway United produced a massive result in the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division in Oriel Park on Friday evening (21st August 2026). Goals from Ed McCarthy (9 mins) and Kris Twardek (55 mins) gave them a two-goal advantage as they spoiled the Dundalk centenary celebrations before Trevor Clarke pulled a goal back. United remain in seventh but are now only four points from fourth place, and five points clear of the relegation places. Loughrea survived a major scare in Pearse Stadium on Friday (21st August) as they picked up their first victory in this year's SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division. The victors led by three point at half-time (1-8 to 1-5) but Moycullen got back on level terms and little separated them.  Moycullen got a second goal in injury time but that was ruled out for a square ball and Loughrea got the final score to take the three point victory. Afterwards, Loughrea manager Tommy Kelly shared his thoughts with Galway Bay FM's PJ Lynch. == Loughrea have two points along with Gort and Tommy Larkins in Group 1.  The latter two teams play in Kilbeacanty on Sunday at 1pm, LIVE on Galway Bay FM. Moycullen have suffered two defeats and need a Gort victory on Sunday to stay in the championship. The final group fixtures on the weekend of September 5th/6th, will see Loughrea play Gort, and Tommy Larkins take on Moycullen.

Athletes representing Galway County and Galway City Harriers will be aiming for national honours tomorrow at the AAI National Outdoor League Finals held at the Morton Stadium in Santry.  Competition gets underway at 10:00am, with both the Premier Division and Division 1 finals set to provide thrilling contests across the track and field. Both Galway's men's and Women's teams feature in the Inter-County Premier Division Finals while Galway City Harriers are in the Clubs Division One Final.  Sean McDermott of Galway Men, Sarah Finnegan of Galway Women and Margaret Sheridan of Galway City Harriers joined John in studio. The long wait is over as Galway United finally make their debut in Pearse Stadium this evening (Friday, 19th June 2026) when they host Derry City in the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division. John Caulfield's team have already taken four points off the Candystripes in two prevous outings this season, but still find themselves four points behind their opponents, even if United have two games in hand. This fixture has always been an entertaining joust with the teams both scoring against each other in the last six fixtures. They've also traded wins regularly with one occcasion being in Eamonn Deacy Park back in 2009 when Galway United won 3-1 thanks to goals from Cian McBrien, Aaron Greene and Jason Molloy.
