On this episode of Managed Care Cast, The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) was joined by Tim McDonald, PhD, MPP, and Bryan E. Dowd, PhD, authors of research published in the April 2026 issue. Their study, "Benefit Design and Consumer Information: Results From a Randomized Trial," found that reducing information barriers for consumers selecting primary care clinics in a tiered network design had only a marginal effect on choice. McDonald and Dowd noted that this suggests informational interventions alone may be insufficient to overcome existing inertia. They added that consumers may already be adequately informed through the tiered benefit design. In AJMC's conversation with the authors, we discussed how provider- and consumer-oriented payment reforms influence health care efficiency and the role of consumer inertia. We also explored the key findings from their research and the broader implications for patient decision-making.

The Bandwagon goes to hell this week....literally. On this episode, we cover episode 4 of Season 4 of Invincible. Mark gets summoned to the Underworld and finds out hell is not quite what he thought it would be. The Big Five Project returns for the first time in 2026, and in this installment, we are knee deep into all the action and stories from the summer of 1996. We first take a look at one of the most important moments in pro wrestling history, and the biggest heel turn ever....Hulk Hogan abandoning the Hulkamaniacs and forming the nWo at Bash at the Beach '96! From there it is on to Summer Slam '96. The event was largely mediocre, save for the final two matches. One saw an epic Boiler Room Brawl between Mankind and The Undertaker, including an unbelievable heel turn at the end of the match. Still celebrating his boyhood dream coming true, WWF Champion Shawn Michaels defended his title against the massive Vader. WE break down all the results for you and the larger impact this event had on the remainder of 1996. Plus, we cover all sorts of stories bubbling under the surface, such as Ahmed Johnson's very real and very scary injury, Sycho Sid's rise in popularity, Vince McMahon continuing to make questionable decisions and pushing appalling storylines, and a staggeringly low buy rate for this event. The stench of 1995 was still lingering at this PPV. But better days are not far off now. All that, plus we take a look at how the card for WrestleMania 42 is shaping up.
