That's a wrap! It's time for our Wimbledon wrap-up show, where Joel, Kim, and Chris reflect on The Championships from our own unique perspectives at Tennis Weekly HQ. We dish out our awards for Best Match, Biggest Surprise, Most Room for Improvement, and Players to Watch as we look ahead to the US Open. (Clue: there may or may not be mentions of Lorenzo Sonego's epic clash with Brandon Nakashima, the lucky loser story that kept on giving with Argentina's Solana Sierra, and Coco Gauff's evolving grass-court game.)We're also bringing back PEAK, PIT, and PLEASANT SURPRISE to share our personal high points, low points, and unexpected moments — including Fabio Fognini's sudden retirement that caught Joel off guard in the staff canteen, how Charli XCX at Glastonbury somehow found its way into Kim's routine and Chris realising you can't eat in the Media seats on court. Shout out to Iga Swiatek, double-bagelling Amanda Anisimova in the ladies' final in 57mins. The Pole is now 6-0 in Grand Slam finals which is quite bossy. Also, shout out to the men's champion Jannik Sinner who came back from a set down to see off defending champ Carlos Alcaraz in four – these two are playing a different sport. Lucy was spot on with her men's take (she knows ball), while Eugene had Anisimova as his second pick. From a BSG perspective, Ben Shelton reaching the quarter-finals, where he lost to the eventual champ was very good going – went one round better than last year. The American is up to a career high world No 9 in the rankings. Hailey Baptiste making a run to the third round on her singles main-draw debut was also a standout. Her second-round match against lucky loser Victoria Mboko was a nice moment. Naomi Osaka looked good on the grass and had opportunities against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in round three. Glad to see the four-time major winner already hitting on the grounds at Flushing Meadows. Gabriel Diallo gave a good account of himself on his debut, very nearly taking out eventual semi-finalist Taylor Fritz in five sets in the second round. Big shout out to 2024 ladies' doubles champions Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova who bowed out in the semi-finals this year. Congrats to Siniakova for securing the mixed doubles crown though with Sem Verbeek. We absolutely loved celebrating the 50th anniversary of Arthur Ashe winning Wimbledon with the oral histories before each episode during week 1! The Wimbledon Watchalong at PlayBox, BoxPark was such a blast and year 3 at the Championships overall was a great experience. We feel blessed and privileged to be part of the growing community of podcasters in this space – shouts out to Tennis Weekly, Quality Shot and Tennis Unfiltered. Happening this week, Mikael Ymer returns to ATP Tour action for the first time since 2023 – playing Bastad with his brother Elias. Noma Noha Akugue is playing Hamburg where she was runner-up in 2023. The Ohio High School Athletic Association will be involved along with representatives from the NFL, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
On the final day of Wimbledon 2025, Jannik Sinner became the first Italian to win the singles tournament, and Catherine, David and Matt were live afterwards to react to his four set defeat of Carlos Alcaraz. In part one we talk over the manner of this win and how Sinner put paid to any suggestion of scar tissue from Paris with a focused and intelligent performance. We discuss Alcaraz's unmatchable brilliance at the end of the first set, and how Sinner's resilience allowed him to stay on task, break at the start of a second, and win clinically in four sets. There's speculation about what might happen next, with the incredible prospect of Sinner, Alcaraz - and Iga Swiatek - all heading into 2026 with the potential to complete a career slam before the age of 25. Will this rivalry between the two of them continue as a duopoly? Or is there a third player yet to emerge from their wake and challenge at the top?In part two (43m34s) we round up the other results from the day at Wimbledon, including a tense battle between Alfie Hewett and Tokito Oda for the men's wheelchair singles crown, and a thrilling women's doubles won by Mertens and Kudermetova over Hsieh and Ostapenko. Thus ends Wimbledon 2025! In part three (49m44s) we finish with a look back at our favourite memories from the past fortnight, and thanks to all those who have contributed to the making of our shows from the Championships.Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop! Catherine, David and Matt were joined by Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic to talk through Iga Swiatek becoming Wimbledon champion and her 6-0 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova in the final. In part one we talk through what happened in a match that had the most one-sided of scorelines and the most brutal of defeats for a nervous and – in her own estimation – tired, Amanda Anisimova. We discuss how nerves played their part in limiting Anisimova's ability to hurt Swiatek and how much the semi-final against Sabalenka may have taken from her in emotional energy. Disappointing as it was from her point of view, however, we had plenty of space to talk about the brilliance of Iga Swiatek in grand slam finals, her ruthlessness and power today, her resilience in coming back after a number of disappointing results to take this title, and how her victory changes the narrative of women's tennis. Finally, it's a scoreline which once again got us talking about best of three vs best of five. In part two (44m04s) we discuss the other results from today, including a first victory in a very long time for an all British pair – Cash and Glasspool - in the men's doubles, of an intense and dramatic victory for De la Puente and Spaargaren over Hewett and Reid in the men's wheelchair doubles, and of a new star in Chinese wheelchair tennis as Wang Ziying denied Yui Kamiji her first Wimbledon victory and a career golden slam. In part three (50m18s) we give you a preview of the men's final tomorrow and look ahead to the final order of play at the Championships 2025. It was a historic Ladies' Final on Centre Court — but probably not in the way anyone imagined when the day began. Iga Swiatek is your Wimbledon champion after a jaw-dropping 57-minute double bagel over Amanda Anisimova, wrapping up her sixth Grand Slam title in ruthless style. It's the first time we've seen a women's final won 6-0, 6-0 since Steffi Graf crushed Natalia Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.Joel and Chris are here to break down exactly what went down in a match everyone thought would be much tighter. They'll chat about what this win means for Swiatek's season and why she's just so unstoppable when it matters most at majors, having lost only two games across her semi-final and final at The Championships. And what about Anisimova? How does she pick herself up from such a tough loss — and can we expect to see her back on this stage anytime soon?Plus, there was even more history on the doubles court: Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool pulled off the first all-British men's doubles title in 89 years. And we're counting down to the mouthwatering clash between Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner — bring it on!BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection and Pure Drive (2025) is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Aber er verkündete, wie von manchen erwartet, nicht seinen Rücktritt, sondern sah seine Chancenlosigkeit an. It's Ladies' Semifinals Day at Wimbledon — and it did not disappoint. Amanda Anisimova delivered one of the performances of the Championships, battling past World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a stunning upset. Join Joel and Chris as they break down why Sabalenka keeps stumbling at the business end of Grand Slams and unpack the remarkable story of Anisimova's comeback after her mental health sabbatical. They also tackle the debate around Sabalenka's so-called “dominance” — and whether ranking points alone tell the whole story. In the other semifinal, Iga Swiatek put on a ruthless clinic to dismantle Belinda Bencic and book her spot in her first Wimbledon final. The duo dig into what's clicking in Swiatek's grass-court game, whether she's finally shed the “clay-court specialist” label, and how her experience in major finals could play a role against Anisimova, who's about to contest her first. Plus, they preview the Men's Semifinals: Novak Djokovic takes on Jannik Sinner in a Roland Garros rematch, while defending champion Carlos Alcaraz faces off against Taylor Fritz.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection and Pure Drive (2025) is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. He will face another tough test in Cam Norrie who won an epic in possibly the match of the championships against Nicolas Jarry in 5 sets on Court One. We were live after close of play on a busy day 4 at the Championships. In part 1 we discuss Draper's shock loss to former finalist here Marin Cilic. What does this mean for both of them? How can Draper still improve both on grass and at Wimbledon? And Can Cilic go even further? We also cover Novak Djokovic and Jannik cruising through, as well as an intriguing epic between August Holmgren and Tomas Machac which was notable not only for four tie-break sets out of five, but also some unexpected clothing-rule-related-drama. In part 2 (43m05s) we wrapped up the women's results. Mirra Andreeva held firm despite being tested by Lucia Bronzetti, and defending champion Krejcikova slipped past Dolehide to set up a match with Emma Navarro. Swiatek too made it through; we discuss how her confidence is holding up as she progresses through the draw. And another former champion, Elena Rybakina, is looking strong, swatting away Sakkari with the kind of skills we wish we could employ to dispatch the insects currently plaguing our podcast bench! In part 3 (57m49s) we run through tomorrow's order of play, consider how Alcaraz might fare against Struff, preview Sabalenka-Raducanu, and come to the conclusion that tomorrow, Court 2 is where it's at in terms of excitement, as Fonseca takes on Jarry and Keys plays Siegemund.Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop! It was a crazy first day at Wimbledon, but Catherine, David and Matt were live to help process it all. Part 1 - Carlos Alcaraz took a scenic route to eventually beat Fabio Fognini. We discuss the potential reasons why and what if anything it means for his 2025 Championships bid. The original Next Gen members Medvedev and Tsitsipas continue to struggle and continue to provide unconvincing responses in press, We will have to wait until tomorrow though to find out the fate of two other members of that group, as both Fritz and Zverev are suspended overnight. The new next generation on the block, however, as represented by Joao Fonseca, was looking good. Part 2 (42m08s) - We discuss Sonay Kartal's unexpected win over an out of sorts Jelena Ostapenko, solid performances for Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu, and a reasonably comfortable victory for dormant-volcano-due-for-eruption Marketa Vondrousova. Sabalenka made short work of Branstine, but reigning Australian Open Champion Madison Keys had a tough time of it against Ruse. We are concerned about how Jasmine Paolini is looking despite having made it through to Round 2, and an incredible performance by Amanda Anisimova which thoroughly delighted Matt was overshadowed by security concerns around Putintseva and by Ons Jabeur retiring injured from her match. In Part 3 (66m18s), we finally name our strawberry mascot, and run through the order of play for Day 2, now supplemented with matches held over from today.Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop!
