Rachel Maree is a wise, wild herbal elder in the making. Her herbalism is informed by indigenous medicine the world over, initiations into entheogenic plant traditions and her own deep, slow listening to the plant world. This interview really highlights the intricate connections between herbalism, cultural practices and ecological belonging, Rachel unwinds the ways that healing at the depths of our beings requires relationships to plants, not just their constituents. We explore how plants connect to ceremony and to land, as well as our shared emergent understanding of how each plant has a unique emotional terrain, linked to the ecological terrain it thrives in… as within so without.I particularly love her take on what herbalism might look like in 500 years, and her experiences of indigenous Australian herbal practice. .**SHOW NOTES**Book in a consultation with Rachel HereFollow Rachel on Instagram hereListen to the Tyson Yunkaporta podcast episode we mentioned (it's a rare interview style episode on the Emerald podcast) here**BUY ME A CUPPA**If you liked the episode and want more, a cuppa fuels my work and time, which is given for free. No matter your level of expertise, years in your industry, or depth of knowledge — if you're not able to present that content with confidence and PRESENCE… you're quietly holding your business back. How we present ourselves and our businesses is just as important as the actual value we provide. So how can you ensure you're showing up ready to make the greatest possible impact with your presence? And how can you do this while remaining authentic and true to yourself? That's exactly what Anne Maree Wilshire and I are discussing on this episode of the HerBusiness Podcast. Anne Maree, founder of Vibrant Voices, is an expert on voice, presence, and presentation—and today she's sharing the secrets to speaking with impact, confidence, and presence as a small-business owner. Here's What You'll Discover on This Episode:  What "presence" really means in a business context (and why it creates trust and authority!). The 3 biggest internal barriers that prevent your message from landing – and how to recognise them fast. Why old belief systems about being 'appropriate' hold us back from saying what we truly want (and prevent us from attracting people who agree!) The #1 blindspot entrepreneurs have when preparing for presentations, keynotes, podcasts, or any speaking event (Hint – it's NOT the quality of your notes!). The professional masks you might be putting up that actually create a disconnect with your clients (You might not even realise you're doing this!) How to make your audience understand – and resonate with! – your message, without feeling like you're overexplaining or rushing. Why confidence is never something you can wait for, and the ONE thing you can do to actually create it. Exactly what to prepare before speaking so you can stay grounded (and more importantly – connected to your topic, audience, and passion). What conviction and courage really look like, and how to access them in high-pressure situations. Why presence matters to you and your brand, and how to cultivate that presence to attract more clients, bring in opportunities, and open doors for yourself. Episode 75 - From Sun Seeker to Skin Advocate: Building Island Vibes & Choosing a New Way to Tan with Amy Maree Campbell

It's a Mindset

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 13, 2026 55:45

Have you ever looked back at the way you treated your skin when you were younger - baking in the sun, chasing a tan - and thought… I know better now? In this episode of It's a Mindset, I'm joined by Amy Maree Campbell, Founder and CEO of Island Vibes - an Australian-made, inclusive sunless tanning brand born from lived experience, loss, resilience and a deep commitment to skin health. Amy's journey is extraordinary. From starting out as a mobile spray-tan artist in 2005, to becoming Nine Network Sydney's contracted celebrity tan artist, to building and later selling a hugely successful hair and beauty salon - and finally choosing to focus fully on Island Vibes - this is a story of courage, clarity and conviction. What makes this conversation especially powerful is why Amy does what she does. Growing up, she watched multiple members of her immediate family battle serious skin cancers, including melanoma. Those experiences shaped her lifelong mission to educate people - especially young women and teens - about sun safety, without shaming or fear. At 50, I found myself deeply resonating with this conversation. I've finally made peace with stepping away from being a sun-seeker, and while I've used fake tan before, I know I'll be far more intentional about protecting my skin moving forward. This episode felt like a timely reminder that mindset, education and self-care evolve as we do. Key Takeaways: Why skin-cancer awareness - particularly for teens - matters more than ever How Island Vibes offers a safer, natural-looking alternative to sun exposure Amy's journey through IVF and endometriosis, and how resilience shaped her leadership The power of belief, manifestation and vision boards in building a business Why Amy sees challenges as inevitable life lessons - not roadblocks The importance of community, support and inclusive beauty at every age About the Guest: Amy Maree Campbell is the Founder and CEO of Island Vibes, an Australian-made sunless tanning brand created to deliver a natural, inclusive glow without the harmful effects of sun exposure. With nearly two decades of experience as a spray tan artist - including work as Nine Network Sydney's contracted celebrity tanner - Amy is widely respected for her expertise, authenticity, and commitment to skin health. Amy's passion for safer tanning was born from deeply personal experience, having witnessed multiple family members battle skin cancer from prolonged sun exposure. This journey transformed her from a former sun seeker into a passionate skin advocate, educator, and entrepreneur. After building and successfully selling Southern Sydney's largest combined hair and beauty salon, The Bridal Bar, Amy chose to focus fully on Island Vibes - a brand grounded in inclusivity, community, and self-belief. She is also a co-author of Navigating Motherhood, an IVF and endometriosis advocate, and a powerful voice for conscious beauty and women-led business. Amy's story is one of resilience, vision, and choosing a better way - for your skin, your body, and your life. It was February 19, 2013. Maree Schafer was excited to start a hairdressing course at the Eastern Institute of Technology the next day. That night, three cars - a silver Holden Commodore, a blue Ford Falcon, and a grey Nissan Skyline were street racing near Napier. The Commodore continued through an intersection, going well over 180km/hour, when the driver lost control, slid sideways across the road, and crashed into a tree. There were three occupants in that car. One was 18-year-old Maree. She died at the scene. Twelve years later, and boy racer events are still happening. People are injured, cars totalled, police intimidated, and, people die. Just last month, riot police clashed with what the Police Minister’s called “cowardly, try-hard idiots” in Levin and Palmerston North – and police are preparing for more gatherings. Today on The Front Page, Coreen Schafer, Maree’s mother, tells us what she’d say to one of these kids, and what life is like after losing her daughter to street racing.
