Molly's niche career began over a decade ago when she entered a whistling competition on a whim and she now performs all over the world. Her music sits somewhere between birdsong and the soundtrack to a film noir.Born in Sydney, Molly moved to Hollywood as a baby before returning to Australia for high school in Byron Bay. Once she realised her talent was more than just a hobby for family and friends, she began performing live with musicians in LA and has collaborated with the likes of Dr Dre, Beck and Karen O. Mark Ronson even asked her to whistle on the Barbie soundtrack. Now Molly is at the centre of a new documentary, Whistle, which follows whistlers from around the world as they prepare for the Masters of Musical Whistling competition. This episode of Conversations was produced by Jen Leake, the Executive Producer is Nicola Harrison. It explores whistling, music, art, film soundtracks, Hollywood, LA, Byron Bay, whistling competitions, African Grey Parrots, Mark Ronson, Barbie, Alessandro Alessandroni, Ennio Morricone, The Good the Bad the Ugly, Harry Dean Stanton, Cafe Molly, John C Reilly,African Grey Parrots, Mark LewisTo binge even more great episodes of the Conversations podcast with Richard Fidler and Sarah Kanowski go the ABC listen app (Australia) or wherever you get your podcasts. Inflation has risen to its highest level in three years as the war in Iran disrupts oil supplies and tariffs drive up prices across the board. Barron’s senior economics writer Megan Leonhardt explains what consumers are feeling right now. President Trump signed the Secure America Act, directing roughly $70 billion to ICE and Border Patrol through fiscal year 2029. The Washington Post’s Jarrell Dillard explains why funding ICE for that long was an unusual step. The largest World Cup in history kicks off today across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Rebecca Lowe, cohost of the Apple News podcast After the Whistle, joins to talk about what to expect and why this tournament could push soccer fully into the American mainstream. Plus, why lawmakers are delaying the renewal of FISA, a Somali referee was denied entry into the U.S. to referee at the World Cup, and how Pope Leo and Bad Bunny came together in Madrid. Today’s episode was hosted by Gideon Resnick.
This year’s World Cup will be the largest in history, with 48 teams and 104 matches — and, for the first time in more than 30 years, the tournament is being played on American soil. Brendan Hunt, co-creator, writer, and star of Ted Lasso and cohost of the Apple News Original podcast After the Whistle, joins Apple News In Conversation guest host David Greene to talk about how he fell in love with soccer as an adult, the U.S. Men’s National Team players he’ll be watching, and whether the United States is finally a soccer country.
Evan Roberts and Shaun Morash are joined by Ian Begley to break down the Knicks' mindset heading into a massive Game 4 at Madison Square Garden. Begley weighs in on the officiating controversy, the physicality from San Antonio, and why the whistle has felt inconsistent enough for even a reluctant critic to take notice.
Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber react to a heated Game 3 of the NBA Finals, where officiating became the story after the Knicks fell to the Spurs. Mike Brown's calm but pointed postgame criticism takes center stage, as the guys debate whether his approach was a savvy attempt to work the refs before Game 4. The conversation turns into a fiery breakdown of Victor Wembanyama's physical play against Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart's scuffle with Luke Kornet, and whether Knicks fans have a legitimate gripe about the whistle. Plus, the show gets into the scene at Madison Square Garden with President Trump in attendance, celebrity sightings, and another round of Posted and Toasted.

Today's Headlines: California and Iowa held their primaries Tuesday — Becerra and Hilton are leading California's governor's race with Steyer's money in a distant third, Karen Bass is holding first in LA's mayoral race with Spencer Pratt in second, and several Beverly Hills residents showed up to vote for Pratt only to discover they don't live in Los Angeles, perfect. Missing New Jersey congressman Tom Kean Jr. — absent for three months — won his uncontested primary anyway, with Trump endorsing him and calling him "tireless," while Kean remains well enough to execute stock trades but not apparently to show up to work. The House passed a War Powers Resolution requiring Trump to withdraw from Iran unless Congress authorizes the war — four Republicans defecting. Iranian drones struck Kuwait's main airport yesterday killing at least one person, and Trump defined the current ceasefire as "when you're shooting in a more moderate manner." The Kushner Albania situation escalated to over 100,000 protesters, a government corruption investigation, and frozen bank accounts tied to the land company behind their resort, over how ecologically protected land was quietly reclassified to clear the way for their development. George Santos is under investigation by the DOJ and CFTC for betting against his own State of the Union attendance on Kalshi after publicly tweeting he'd be there to inflate the odds — which is the most on-brand insider trading imaginable. And finally, DOGE whistleblower Daniel Berulis filed a defamation lawsuit against Elon Musk, revealing that less than a week after his whistleblower report was published, someone cut the brakes on his car, removed the airbag sensor, and left fingerprints inside — with the only entities that had his address on record being his utilities and the Office of Personnel Management, which DOGE had already taken over. This week, the team discusses why the race among the top AI companies to go public has just gotten started but it is already creating bizarre repercussions — including numerous San Francisco real estate listings preferring Anthropic's stock instead of cash. They also get into why Trump's new executive order on AI safety is underwhelming, and how hackers were able to use Instagram's AI chatbot to access high profile accounts, like President Obama's. Plus, Leah reports on how a DOGE whistleblower is suing Elon Musk for defamation after the billionaire publicly called him a liar, and the next thing he knew — his life was in danger. The show kicks off with discussion around Apple's latest beta releases for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS. While the updates appear mostly focused on bug fixes and stability improvements, the panel speculates Apple may already be quietly laying groundwork for major WWDC announcements behind the scenes. Vision Pro continues to dominate conversation this week with the arrival of the native Steam Link app, giving users a new way to stream PC games directly into Apple's headset. The panel discusses the growing gaming possibilities for Vision Pro, including PS5 remote play support and whether Apple's expensive headset could eventually become a more serious entertainment and gaming platform. Leaked images of black Vision Pro components also spark speculation about possible future hardware revisions or prototype devices Apple may still be testing internally. Security and messaging updates are another major focus this week. The crew discusses Apple's expanded transparency around CVE security reporting, encrypted RCS messaging support in Messages, and how users can verify end-to-end encryption is active. The conversation quickly turns humorous as the group debates Apple's new alerts for users who max out blocked contacts, leading to stories about spam texts, political messages, and the endless battle against robocalls. On the Mac side, the panel covers the M5 MacBook Air reaching one of its lowest prices yet, making it an especially attractive option for Apple users looking to upgrade. Dave also shares excitement about the massive Virtual OS Museum project, which allows users to explore and run classic operating systems from decades past, including older versions of macOS, Windows, Linux, Atari, and more. The discussion then shifts into AI and Apple's future plans. OWC's upcoming Stack AI hardware generates interest as the panel explores how local AI processing and large language models may shape the future of Mac hardware. From there, the conversation moves into new rumors surrounding iOS 27, including reports of a redesigned Siri experience, a standalone chatbot-style Siri app, Dynamic Island integration ideas, and Apple's ongoing effort to compete in the rapidly evolving AI space. The panel debates whether Apple is truly behind competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini, or simply pursuing a more privacy-focused and ecosystem-driven approach. The crew also spends time discussing Apple's redesigned app icons and the growing confusion surrounding Creative Studio apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. Jeff Gamet passionately argues Apple has "completely lost the plot" with icon design, while Marty Jencius defends the idea of evolving aesthetics, leading to one of the funniest debates of the episode. Practical user tips round out the show, including how to customize CarPlay layouts, manage widgets and apps, enable 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates on iPhone, and use Apple Wallet driver's licenses in supported states. The panel shares real-world experiences using digital IDs and Apple Pay, including a hilarious story about a cashier insisting Apple Pay users still needed to "pay with money." Finally, the crew previews Macstock 2026 and Creator Camp, encouraging listeners to join the Apple community event this summer. With discussions covering Vision Pro gaming, Siri rumors, AI strategy, CarPlay, Mac hardware, Apple Wallet, and much more, Episode 425 delivers another packed week of Apple news, insight, and entertaining conversation from the In Touch With iOS team. "They want the secret, and the secret is little and often over the long haul," says Dan John, author of several books on strength and fitness, most recently The Fitness Forge: Master Coaching Tools that Build Real Strength.Today we've got a bit of a curve ball, a backdoor slider, but not really. It's Dan John, who is something of a Swiss army knife of wisdom and kindness and strength and conditioning. He's been a long time strength coach and a master communicator of how to get real-life strong, not influencer, flash-in-the-pan strong, the kind of strong that allows you to fill out your shirt, carry all the groceries in one go, and shovel the driveway without leaving yourself in traction for four days.I've recommended his books many times on this show and in newsletters, and his approach to strength very much rhymes with writing, so that's a big reason why I wanted to invite him on to talk it out. You can visit danjohnuniversity.com to learn more about him and to buy books like the Easy Strength Omnibook, Easy Strength for Fat Loss, his two Armor Building Formula books and his latest The Fitness Forge: Master coaching tools that build real strength. The real crux of easy strength is that it echoes what Percy Cerutty, the Australian running coach, had his runners do in the 1950s, and it's an approachable system that doesn't feel like you've been put through a wood chipper. I spent most of my 30s training like I was a juiced up bodybuilder, hobbling around most days with that deep, bone ache. As I've aged, training in that manner is unfeasible and, well, fucking stupid, plus easy strength is awesome for running, which I'm doing quite a lot these days.So Dan John has been a champion discus thrower coming up on the coattails of the great throwers of the 1970s, guys like Brian Oldfield and Mac Wilkins and Peter Shmock. His lifting approach has always been geared around utility, not aesthetics, by and large. He has written many books like Mass Made Simple, 40 Years with a Whistle, Can You Go, Never Let Go, and several others. Some are only available on the big A, others are available as PDFS through his website. They imbue a sense of possibility, that things are achievable, and that little and often over the long haul is doable and repeatable. If you're into fads, Dan is not for you and he often injects so much personal anecdote and wisdom from a life of nearly 70 years into his work and his podcast, the Dan John University Podcasts where he answers listener questions every week. He's very centering for me. Even hearing him talk through something as simple as his daily pirate map, which is a collection of daily habits, and merely hearing him so often articulate that defrags my computer, if that makes any sense. So in this conversation, we talk about: Parasocial relationships Marvel and Greek heroes The spiderweb effect of his brain Open Culture Little and often over the long haul The secret Being a slave to habits Parallels between lifting and writing Collecting the links Getting small, easy wins out of the way Inspiration is for amateurs Having skin in the game And community making us greatYou'll find dan @coachdanjohn on instagram and of course visit danjohnuniversity.com to see if his books or his inner circle is right for you.

Today, we're talking about how we tell history, and specifically, how the media treats indigenous cultures. We are diving into the recent cultural history of the so-called Aztec Death Whistle. I've wanted to look into this topic for a while, but a recent horror movie about the whistle prompted a discussion on the Aztlantis discord, so I felt the time was right to dive into it. The main question at hand is how and why did the whistle enter popular culture? That indeed is an interesting question. Of all the things attributed to the Aztecs that people would gravitate towards, a whistle associated with death is going to make the list. Right? I mean think of other things that the public associates with the Aztecs – it's disproportionately related to violence and death. Even the explosion of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in the last 20 years, while a positive celebration of deceased loved ones, is still about death. Okay, so how did we get here with the whistle? It's useful to note that the Aztec Death Whistle has been known to archeologists since the 19th century. Scholars largely ignored it as a curiosity until 1999 when an archeological discovery in Tlatelolco changed the perception and led to a more serious investigation of the whistle. The site held the remains of an individual clasping a whistle in each hand, and this led to a momentary surge on the topic. We'll get to that later, but first, back to the article. As I was looking around, I found a 2021 article from the Daily Science Journal by Alex Mitchell entitled “The Aztec Death Whistle is History's Reminder That the Aztecs were Terrifying.” The title of this piece says it all (what a goober, this guy). listener comments? Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber look ahead to a potential Knicks NBA Finals matchup and zero in on the biggest concern for New York fans: Shai Gilgeous Alexander's ability to live at the free throw line. They break down why SGA's foul drawing could become the defining storyline of the series, especially when compared to Jalen Brunson's own reputation for crafty play. The conversation also digs into which opponent Knicks fans should actually want, whether beating Oklahoma City would silence the doubters, and how a title run would reshape the way people view the team's coaching change from Tom Thibodeau to Mike Brown. Plus, Evan and Tiki debate whether this Knicks run deserves more respect, no matter who stands in their way.
Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We've got one heck of an episode in store for you guys as we're talking about 1984's Friday The 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter and 1986's Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives First off thank you to the fine folks over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screen-printing company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a t-shirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. And as always thank you to our Patreon subscribers. Your support means the world to us and we are eternally thankful. If you would like to become a Patron, head to patreon.com/cinepunx. Thanks in advance! We briefly talk what we've doing involving horror recently. Liam discusses listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series of novels, and be we briefly talk about our favorite audiobooks that add something to the source material. We talk about the film Touch Me, and Liam talks about listening to The Stand on audiobook. Justin talks about the films The Whistle and Bodycam. We talk at length about the film Undertone. Up first is Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter. We open by talking about the appeal of Jason Vorhees as being based on the fear of the other in that until the sixth movie he is essentially a mentally challenged hermit living in the woods. We touch upon the upcoming series. Justin talk abouts the checkered history of Paramount's support of the franchise in that they were “becoming embarrassed” with their association with the series and intended to kill off Jason and have this be the end of the series but the financial response of the films inspired them to continue churning out sequels, and Justin ascertains that these movies are the epitome of the worst part of capitalism. We talk about the various problems with the horror community in general and toxic fandom as a whole. Justin talks about how not minding the first three F13 movies he doesn't really find the character of Jason Vorhees compelling at all. Justin talks about what he likes about the film: the filmmaker decided to make a child the protagonist in a film that was very clearly not at all made for kids, and not just a protagonist but a smart protagonist. Liam talks about his experience with these films in that part six was the first of the series he saw and how he weirdly misremembers them, including a moment in which a character is murdered in an over the top almost silly manner (the infamous “he's killing me!” scene) as well as the many, many extended chase scenes, and how the mystique of the character is ruined by shots of him running, and Justin adds that either a brisk walk or straight up just showing up is the only acceptable way slasher villains should move. We talk about Tommy Jarvis' method of fucking with Jason, and how it's at least innovative for a horror movie. Up next is Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. We start by talking about how this is the first film where Jason is overtly supernatural, and that Tommy did actually kill him but now he's resurrected and actually undead. Justin talks about how it's weirdly believable that Tommy would need to see the body before believing Jason was actually dead. He also talks about how unlike part 4 he finds this scene entirely irredeemable. Liam talks about how the movie doesn't hold up to his memory of it. Liam talks about how ridiculous it is that everyone has willingly forgets about Jason. He also talks about how there's a weird sense of humor in the film that isn't present in the prior films, especially in the infamous paintball scene, and how he didn't really remember that as a kid, although he says the “quippiness” was a bit much. We discuss how the ending of chaining Jason to the bottom of the lake sounds cool but there's no real logic to it. First off thank you to Christan for not only suggesting these films but also being a faithful patreon subscriber. https://teachhoops.com/ Finding the "correct" coaching job is rarely about the prestige of the name on the jersey; it's about the alignment between the program's DNA and your personal "Why." Too many coaches chase the "biggest" job only to find themselves in a culture that suffocates their philosophy. To find the right fit, you have to treat the job search like a scouting report—looking past the surface-level wins and losses to see the structural reality of the organization. Before looking at job boards, you must define your non-negotiables. A "correct" job exists at the intersection of three specific pillars: Tactical Philosophy: Does the school or club value the style of play you specialize in? If you are a "Dribble Drive" coach but the administration is obsessed with a slow-paced, traditional post-up system, you are setting yourself up for friction. Lifestyle Logistics: Every job has a "cost of entry." This includes commute times, off-season expectations, and administrative duties. A job that looks great on paper but destroys your work-life balance will eventually lead to burnout. Organizational Support: Does the Athletic Director or General Manager have your back? You need to know if the "Standard" you set in the locker room will be supported when you have to make a difficult decision regarding a player or a parent. Every opening tells a story. You need to identify which chapter of that story you are entering: The interview process isn't just about them liking you; it's about you "vetting" them. Ask the questions that reveal the true culture: "How does the administration handle parent complaints regarding playing time?" "What is the budget for player development and assistant coaches?" "What does 'success' look like to you three years from now, regardless of the scoreboard?" In the modern landscape, the "correct" coaching job might not be at a traditional school. Consulting & Digital Coaching: If you have spent decades mastering a system, the "correct" move might be coaching other coaches. Platforms that offer "Scalable Mentorship" allow you to impact thousands of players without the 80-hour work week. Club/AAU Director: Transitioning from the sidelines to a "Director of Coaching" role allows you to shape the fundamentals of an entire region rather than just one roster. To objectively measure a potential job, use this simple calculation for each offer: Where: $A$ (Alignment): How well their vision matches your philosophy (1–10). $L$ (Logistics): How the job fits your daily life and family (1–10). $S$ (Support): The quality of the administration and resources (1–10). A score above 8.5 is a "Must Take." A score below 6.0 is a "Hard Pass," no matter how big the school is.
