The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), in conjunction with their partners Data Edge, Timing Solutions and HEAnet, are hosting Ireland's inaugural Time & Sync Forum today, 11th Feb 2025, in Santry, Dublin. The event is bringing together a number of leading authorities in timing and synchronisation from Ireland, the UK and the European Commission to discuss key topics and policies relating to critical infrastructure on the island of Ireland. Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies play a crucial role in modern economies, and enable over 10% of Europe's annual GDP, or more than €14 trillion*. Major industries such as communications, energy, transportation, public services and financial services are increasingly reliant on precise timing and timing distribution to deliver their services. Commenting on the event, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD said, "Position, Navigation and Timing technologies are a core part of the work of a number of industries that are cornerstones of the Irish economy. Earlier this year, the Programme for Government committed to delivering a strong enterprise and fiscal framework to support competitiveness and the growth of a strong industrial base which has created jobs, grown exports, promoted innovation, and raised our standard of living. I warmly welcome this event, focussed on building on the launch of the National Timing Grid, and its role in advancing Ireland's domestic capabilities to support industry." Following on from the successful launch of Ireland's first National Timing Grid in 2023, the NSAI is hosting the Forum to promote the continuing need for Ireland to have as much control over its timing infrastructure as possible, including the potential replacement of Greenwich Mean Time with a domestic equivalent. Keynote speakers include Dr. Leon Lobo, Head of the National Timing Centre (NTC) programme at Britain's National Physical Laboratory, who is delivering its national timing strategy. Dr. Lukasz Bonenberg, Space Programmes Policy and Scientific Officer, Joint Research Centre (JRC), European Commission, will also provide his expertise having worked on Galileo, the EU's Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Between them, Drs. Lobo and Bonenberg will provide an important overview of PNT resiliency across Europe. Along with Data Edge, Timing Solutions and HEAnet, NSAI are currently working on enhancing Ireland's PNT capabilities through the National Timing Grid and the distribution of verified global GNSS data to support compliance with the upcoming EU NIS2 Directive. This update to the EU's original Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive significantly expands cybersecurity obligations for critical infrastructure sectors. NSAI's National Metrology Laboratory (NML), based in Glasnevin, maintains the reference measurement standards for Time & Frequency and contribute their atomic clock data to the International Bureau for Weights and Measures (BIPM) who maintain and calculate Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Whilst Legal Time in Ireland is under the remit of the Department of Justice, the internationally accepted representation of the second in Ireland is maintained by the NSAI's NML. David Fleming, National Standards Authority of Ireland, Technical Manager for Time, said, "We expect this important gathering to provide valuable insights which help us to inform policy development at a Governmental level and outline the requirements for investment in key timing infrastructure for the country. In a time of disruption and major technological advancements, Ireland needs to be as self-sufficient in this area as possible, while also aligning fully with our international counterparts." "With this event, we are aiming to draw in and engage as many interested stakeholders as possible to determine the requirements across the diverse sectors dependent upon precise timing." An age-and-climate-friendly village in Kildare and a Halloween safety initiative by An Garda Síochána in Kerry were among the winners of the 2024 National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards. Announced at the 8th annual awards on 7th November, the winning campaigns were chosen for their exceptional contribution to making Ireland an outstanding place to grow older. MCed by RTÉ star Marty Whelan and hosted this year by Fingal County Council at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Northwood, Santry, Dublin, the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards winners were: Age Friendly Transport Award, sponsored by the Department of Transport: Cnoc (Inverin) and Casla Bus Shelters, Connemara, Galway County Council. This project was designed to improve accessibility and user comfort at bus stops serving rural Gaeltacht communities in south Connemara. The enhanced facilities increase the attractiveness of public transport and empower older persons to make more climate-friendly transportation choices. Age Friendly Community Innovation Award, sponsored by the Department of Rural & Community Development: Creative Cafés, Monaghan County Council. CreativeCafés are an opportunity for people to get out of the house, meet new people, have a chat and engage in a creative activity, all of which are shown to improve mental health and wellbeing.? It also showcases that public libraries aren't just about books and reading, with the project offering ukulele lessons, acrylic painting, creative writing, Sean Nós dancing, eco crafting, Christmas wreath making and bodhrán making and playing. Age Friendly Communication Award, sponsored by An Post: Development and Publication of a Directory of Health and Social Care Services for Older People, HSE with Laois County Council and Offaly County Council. The ability to access clear and concise information impacts an older person's life, from health and well-being to social connectedness to financial security. A working group comprising HSE, other statutory agencies, and community and voluntary partners developed the directory to link existing cross-sectoral community-based assets. Local consultation with older people informed the planning and this found loneliness to be a real problem in rural areas. The directory signposts opportunities for support, resources and ways to form better social connections. Age Friendly Housing, Brady's Court, South Dublin County Council. The development at Brady's Court represents an exemplifier infill development in an established suburban community - ideally suited and attractive to older residents who would like to right-size. This project is just one example of an ongoing programme of 10 sites currently being developed by South Dublin County Council and is supported by Development Plan policies and objectives which actively encourage age-friendly provision. Age Friendly Environment Award, sponsored by the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design at NDA: Joint winners of this award were: Ballymore Eustace, Age Friendly Climate Friendly Village, Kildare County Council; and Creating Age Friendly & Inclusive Beach Access in Donegal, Donegal County Council & Community Groups. Ballymore Eustace was chosen as a village to become age-friendly and Climate Friendly by the fact that in the last census of 2016, Ballymore Eustace had the largest number of older residents per head of population in the county. From a Climate Action perspective, Ballymore-Eustace was chosen as an example of a rural commuter village and how it can integrate solutions at a community level to adapt to climate change. Steve Preda here with the Management Blueprint Podcast. And my dear guest today is Peter Santry, a Summit OS guide and value builder licensee who's helping leadership teams align their vision, goals, and actions, and to overcome the challenges and opportunities that come with growth. Peter's clients have achieved remarkable results, such as doubling their revenues, 10x-ing their profits, and attracting private equity capital. Peter, welcome to the show. Thank you, Steve. Glad to be here. And as we've discussed, I've always been an admirer of your work, and I learn something new each time. So I'm really, really happy to be joining you, and I expect to do the same here. Absolutely. We're going to dive into Summit OS and your work and everything. But the first question I'd like to ask is, what is your personal “Why” and what are you doing in your business to manifest it? So I've given this a lot of thought because I changed careers probably 7-8 years ago. At this point in my career, I believe that my highest value, and it dovetails with what I think this country needs is in helping business owners and their people help them really succeed. There's nothing more gratifying for me than to see both owners and their people doing the work that they love, getting compensated wealth for it and then taking the fruits of their efforts and exercising their own personal freedom on how they spend it, whether they choose to buy a home, educate their children, save for the future, or give to the charity of their choice. The point is that they're creating value to exercise their God-given freedom, and we need more of that in America, and that's what really drives me today. Yeah, that's great. I mean, entrepreneurs work so hard and take so much risk that we deserve to get to the fruit of our labor, and we just need some good systems that will get us there. So it's great, it's a great “Why.” So, we talked about this before the show for the listeners and there are some Summit OS tools that you said you like, but we hold in on the Core Business Lens™, which you said was your favorite in this toolkit. So can you tell us about the questions that you ask your clients when you're kind of putting them under the lens and how do you figure out their core business and how does it help them? Yeah, so I really love the core business lens and I introduced it fairly early in any coaching engagement that I have. It really focuses the leadership of teams on the business they should be spending more calories on. So many companies wonder why their growth is slow or why they're having trouble attracting new clients. And often that's happening because their product or service is so diffuse that prospects don't know who they are. And that's a problem. So what I do is I step back or have them step back and answer the following five questions. And the first one is, what are you best at or what is the core competency that allows you to bring value to your customers? And the answer is usually the original service that the company was founded on before they branched into other areas.

The latest BOSS podcast features Dr. Heena Santry, a double-boarded trauma and acute care surgeon and consultant talking about how health care design can help health care equity and prevent moral injury and burnout. She had two guiding principles as a surgeon: creating a just culture in surgery and advancing health equity. She was excelling along the typical academic track when she realized that she had an opportunity to reach more than just an academic department. She became a consultant for a health care architectural design firm where she uses her experience and skills as a surgeon, her leadership skills, quality research, epidemiologic survey research and geographic information systems to create efficient, equitable spaces in a diverse set of hospitals. Her work allows hospitals to best organize themselves to achieve their population goals considering aspects like trends of aging in the population, kinds of diseases in the area, proximity to other hospitals, and strategies to achieve high quality equitable care. She is especially passionate about the physicians' lounge which can break down barriers in the workplace. The lounge has the potential to provide an organic chance to sit with peers in a place focused on wellness, natural light, food for fuel, and a variety of options for comfortable seating either alone or together. As a mother and a surgeon, many women who did not have any mentors reached out to her for advice. She created an online space for surgeon mothers that allowed networking, relatable content, venting, isolation prevention that has been invaluable for thousands of female surgeons. This space provides opportunity for sponsorship, mentorship, coaching and sharing experiences that has led to real-life networking as well.

Today we celebrate the five year anniversary of the podcast with the one and only Roddy Collins, for 90 minutes of entertainment. Roddy talks playing for Rovers in the 80s, Ricky McEvoy in a Donegal disco, his boxing champion brother Steve and receiving death treats at Irish League clubs. He explains leaving Dublin City in a relegation battle to manage Rovers in 2004, the drinking culture at the club and bingo nights. Roddy remembers Paddy McCourt when he opened his legs, the real Mick McCarthy, his suspension, Rovers' relegation and certain board members. Finally, we discuss the 6-4 in Santry, Malta, funny interactions with Hoops fans, who stopped him from getting work and what you can read in the buke.
While Chelsey may truly someday go to the pickleball olympics (sans digi-yuan), today we are discussing a few other less amazing (sarcasm) things about her life. Every day for a month we've been sitting here together gazing out over Potrero Bay in Costa Rica, planning our days - yoga, paddle boarding, pickleball, swimming, house-building, medical clinic creating - and talking about all the important things in life - boys (to men), friends (over boys), singing Aaliyah's “4-page letter” on repeat, the reflection of our self - that we see in others - which reveals our life lessons… I drink espresso (or two) and roll a ciggy (or two). Chelsey drinks chilled green tea. We laugh, we cry, we get closer.Interview highlights:+ "Rock bottom"…in paradise+ Giving up “control”+ TIME with loved ones+ Innovating in cancer care + prevention+ When life flows with ease+ Being consumed with power and success+ Doubters are fuel for the fire+ Don't chase the money+ Jumping into the deep end+ HUMOR with serious shit+ Taking care of you first+ Living IN the dream+ Square peg in a round hole+ Finding your peopleA taste:“I just wish I could have started earlier, but I needed to go through all that shit - over and over and over again - to realize…it's really really scary to take your foot off the brake and your hands off the wheel and just see what happens and to do things that aren't the norm socially…and live outside the box, but I think that's what we all should be doing.”Favorite quote/saying/mantra(s):“Set the world on fire.”“Stay the course.”Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sagewlf)
Jenny and Orla don't want their children to be forced into wearing masks in school. Other callers disagree. Carol Morris was only 16 when her father Albert went missing without a trace. Her call prompts Monica to get in touch to tell Joe about how her mother also left the family home, never to be seen again.
In a return to the podcasting due to social media pressures - which involved seven people liking a tweet - we tee up what should be a cracking edition of the National Cross Country Championships on Sunday. Santry Demesne will play host to the best and brightest of Irish athletics, with places on offer at the Europeans in Dublin which, as we learn during our show, is both a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a twice-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Join us as we update everyone on the reasons our absence from the Irish athletics airwaves over the past six months and run the rule over the fields in the U20 and senior races in Santry, along with expressing our admiration (real) for Andrew Coscoran and our love (fake) for Abbotstown. Let battle commence.
D Day today! Duffer is in, Doolin and Doyle are out! Amid all the comings and goings, we welcome Shamrock Rovers defender Roberto 'Pico' Lopes to studio to reflect on the title win for the Hoops and give us sketchy details on a weekend of celebrations. The only Crumlin man in the Cape Verde squad has tales of African airports and incarceration in a Santry hotel as well as the low down on today's big news, Damien Duff as Shelbourne's new manager. We have a bit of Damien from his press conference and Paul Doolin on the phone to Johnny lamenting the M50 traffic that caused him to end his spell at Athlone. All this and the usual crossed wires, Galway United trivia, and long lost cousins on the Green Cape.
Graham and Nathan want to know if Producer Callum is the most famous person in Santry, and they discuss the potential of more bank holidays in Ireland.

After discovering they had no culinary skills during the kitchen episode a few weeks back, Johnny and Dan have moved to a Santry diner where the recently retired, unlikely arthritis victim Karl Sheppard, steps in like a character out of a Tom Waits song. The striker, formerly of Shamrock Rovers and Cork City, is adjusting to the real world where it's easier to get a mortgage and harder to get fired up and angry. Set to a background of fully vaccinated 'Nighthawks at the Diner', there's chat about his past life and his future plans and we also pour over the lessons of another big European week ahead of a super Thursday for Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk. Thankfully no one got hurt during the recording except for a couple of eggs that got beat up and a cup of coffee that wasn't strong enough to defend himself against a hard ass Four Star Pizza question.
Dr. Heena P. Santry and Dr. Adrian Diaz are interviewed on the JOGS article titled "Re-examining “Never Letting the Sun Rise or Set on a Bowel Obstruction” in the Era of Acute Care Surgery" which was published in JOGS Volume 25, pages 512–522 (2021).

We're a little bit late this week with the weekend's sports preview show due to a family bereavement during the week causing us to rip up the plans we had laid out. However the show must go on and we're joined by three county players who will be in action for their respective clubs this weekend in the Senior Championship Quarter Finals this week. With almost a total focus on the last eight teams in the Senior and Intermediate Football Championships this weekend we'll be looking at the fixtures for those 8 games and taking a look at the mindset behind some of the players expected to play a major role in those fixtures. We'll start with a look at the national league soccer (1.13) fixtures involving Leitrim athletes with Sligo Rovers and Peamount United both in FAI Cup and Women's National League action. Carrick Athletic Club's Gerard O'Donnell (2:07) will be attempting to win another national title in the 110m hurdles event at this weekend's National Athletic's Championships at Morton Stadium, Santry on Sunday afternoon. We'll be running through the entire fixture list (2:53) for the Senior & Intermediate Championship quarter finals and relegation play offs at both grades also. Finally we hear from Shane Quinn (8:18), Aidan Flynn (15:40) and Emlyn Mulligan (24:51) ahead of the crunch games this weekend. There's also a mention about the streaming service and the new platform to watch them including the pricing and way to sign up for the only way to get yourself behind closed doors this weekend and actually see the football action for yourself in the comfort of your own home.

Mike showed us his funny bone before in Ep. 110. and swore that it would be the last time before he moved to Canada. We sure showed him. sBGPQYHyJWeMa2eSSP5Y

Our guests in an unrecognisable Johnny Blues Bar (from 1 hour 7 mins) are Terry Palmer and Richie Purdy. The lads discuss their eventful careers, European games in Turkey and Poland, soulless Santry and Rico's rants. Terry talks about supporting the club with his Dad, winning Player of the Year, not getting paid, being forced out of the club by Roddy Collins and controversially signing for Bohs. Richie remembers his Dundalk and Derry days, coming back from a bad injury, scoring a brace against Bohs as a makeshift centre-forward but also his costly own goal against them. His two sons Daniel and Richard went on to play for the Hoops. At the start of the show we have our Sligo review and thoughts on the Member's Meeting before Mick McCarthy and Eoghan Rice select wingers for the All-Time XI.

Helped influence the Government to procure national motorways instead of the town by-passes commissioned by the National Roads Authority in 1999. Helped expedite the M50 Motorway and save €400m. This included its realignment: a) near Sandyford Village – so that the village was not enclosed by motorway type roads; b) away from sensitive areas of Finglas, Ballymun and Santry. This enabled this section to open sooner - it was to open 10 years after the Tallaght to Sandyford section but instead was opened 5 years before it; c) at Redcow to remove the last set of lights during its latest upgrade. Played a key role in the Government decision for a Dublin Metro - assembled a Japanese consortium and in 2000 presented to the Cabinet Committee for PPPs a proposal. After the meeting the Cabinet pledged to proceed with a metro. In 2003 presented plans to the Government Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport on how the cost of a metro could be reduced and also instigated the visit of a Spanish delegation to them. The Committee Report noted my 'undoubted knowledge and many skills that are appropriate for the building of a Metro' and that my 'extensive knowledge could be harnessed for the development of the Dublin Metro system'. https://www.linkedin.com/in/cormac-rabbitt-23b61b32/

Colm Hayes has been part of the Irish radio scene for what seems like forever at this stage, so it was a real pleasure to sit down and talk to him about his career in the business. From humble beginnings in a tiny pirate station in Santry, a serendipitous piece of timing saw him claim a gig on the incredible Radio Nova and things took off from there. We discuss how he was sent by Chris Cary to help bring back the LA radio sound to Dublin, the change from pirate to legal, creating the hugely successful Strawberry Alarm Clock breakfast show on FM104, bringing it to RTE, the changes enforced by the death of Gerry Ryan, what it meant for his relationship with JimJim, and loads more besides. It's a fascinating listen, and not just for radio enthusiasts. Remember, you can follow Colm Hayes on Twitter @ColmHayes2FM and listen to his Drive By show every Monday to Friday from 4.30 - 7 on 2FM. Follow the show @738ampod
