Following the unparalleled success of his Genre defining slasher Halloween, Director John Carpenter was approached by Universal studios to helm the reimagining of the Howard Hawks horror classic The Thing From Another World as part of a multi picture deal that would’ve seen the director ascend to the upper echelon of filmmakers. In August of 1981 production began on the Claustrophobic, atmospheric adaptation of the John W. Campbell short. Not surprisingly the ambitious undertaking proved catastrophic financially as the production days and cost seemed to rise as the weather began to drop and while the film would go on to find its audience, its financial failure saw the potential derailment of a promising new voice. On June 25th, 1982 John Carpenter’s THE THING was released leaving audiences… Cold
