Non-Horror July is coming to a glorious, unhinged finish, and we are going out with what might be the single greatest miracle in cult film history. To wrap up our month away from traditional horror, Marcus and Luke are hitting the crime-ridden, graffiti-covered streets of 1984 Manhattan to review the legendary lost-and-found masterpiece: New York Ninja.Originally shot in 1984 by martial arts star John Liu and completely abandoned without sound, scripts, or credits, the footage sat in film vaults for nearly 40 years. Enter the heroes at Vinegar Syndrome, who painstakingly reconstructed a storyline and brought in B-movie royalty (Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock, Linnea Quigley, Michael Berryman) to dub the dialogue.Follow us @Reviewedtodeath Music:“Alone Together” and “Wonder” by creatormix.comStreet Fighter 2 Stage Select Theme by Yoko Shimomura, Isao Abe, Syun Nishigaki. Mike talks with Taylor about turning that same curiosity on Steve Johnson, the special makeup effects legend behind Slimer, the Fright Night vampires, and the Howling werewolves, and a childhood hero whose success validated Taylor's own outsider love of monsters.Taylor traces the six-year odyssey of Rubberhead: The Life & Monsters of Steve Johnson, from meeting Johnson at Monsterpalooza through the funding struggles of an unapologetically niche passion project. In the 80's and 90's in the movie business it wasn't music or people that made the world go around, it was rubber....In advance of the film's world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal we got the opportunity to dive into the life and times of the masters of the practical VFX game.  It's time for 'Rubberhead: The Life & Monsters of Steve Johnson'.Steve Johnson was a child of the movies whose journey led to creature shop of Rick Baker all the way to big budget classics like 'Ghostbusters' and the indie gore darlings like "Night of the Demons'.  As the 90's came around he built his own  groundbreaking FX studio that would work with the likes of Steven Spielberg and Guillermo del Toro. However when the studios started to favour digital effects over practical ones, his success started to wain which led to being a man out of time, as divorce and the non-stop party like it's the 1980's started to see an actual end..While 'Rubberhead' doesn't skimp on the fan service which is well deserved and plentiful it's also a really interesting story of a mad creative genius being undone by his demons like many before him have gone through.  That being said, with Johnson serving as narrator he gives this time period the unabashed rock star treatment that it so richly deserved.  He created on a level like no other, and played in is excesses without regret.  Iconic geniuses never seem to fit anywhere, and that's exactly what Steve Johnson.A film seven years in the making, we had the pleasure of sitting down with director Nick Taylor about following this immensely interesting life,  paying homage to the time period and acknowledging unhinged brilliance when it stares us in the face.

The Blind Rage podcast: Horror Movie Commentaries

The Blind Rage Podcast prowls into 1313: COUGAR CULT (2012) with a wink and a wicked grin, where three nerdy but hunky college guys land what seems like a dream summer job at a luxury mansion only to find out their glamorous employers are were-cougars with an appetite for immortality and fresh meat. The film frankly revels in its own brand of bizarre horror and off-kilter fun, but the true headline here is the reunion of genre legends Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer sharing the screen again after decades, turning every scene they grace into a playful nod to their horror royalty.

Clerks III (2022)Director: Kevin SmithCast: Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Kevin SmithKevin Smith had a heart attack, rewrote his legacy, and somehow made a movie that retroactively makes us like his older films less. This week on Dewey Pod Monster, we close out "April and the Threequel" by finally confronting the most threatened episode in show history: Clerks III. We've been dreading this one for four years. It was worse than we remembered. In this episode, we discuss:The Nostalgia Cash-In That Went Too Far — Clerks III is essentially Kevin Smith remaking his own movie while reselling a heart attack story you've already heard on his podcast and live tour. We've paid for this content before.Comedy That Forgot to Be Funny — The film swings for emotional drama without earning it, leaving beloved characters stranded in a tone that doesn't fit them. It's neither funny enough to work as a comedy nor written well enough to land as a drama. The Rosario Dawson Problem — She was one of the best things about Clerks II, and here she's reduced to a ghost who tells her grieving husband she's sleeping with celebrities in heaven. It's a baffling choice that retroactively damages the previous film's ending.Who the Hell Is This Movie For? — Too recycled for longtime fans and too niche for newcomers, Clerks III only seems to work if you watched it live with Kevin Smith in the room. At home on your couch, it just doesn't work.We Also Talked About:WrestleMania 42 (ESPN) (2026) — Both hosts tuned in out of habit and left empty. Over-commercialization, ads during wrestler entrances, a CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns main event that nobody asked for, and a streaming situation so fragmented neither host could even find where to watch it.Louis Theroux Documentaries (Dailymotion) — Sean went deep into Theroux's hour-long doc series including Extreme Love (dementia and caregiving), a trans kids episode, and Heroin Town USA — a gutting look at opiate addiction in a small Virginia town from the mid-2010s.Cop Game (Tubi) (1988) — Directed by Bruno Mattei under the alias Bob Hunter, this Filipino-shot Vietnam War action film stars Brent Huff and features miniature toy cars in chase scenes, two songs on a loop, and an ending so abrupt it barely qualifies as one. Sean watched it. He has regrets. He's still going to watch more Bruno Mattei films.Hellmare Trailer (Youtube)— John got an early look at this upcoming horror film from local filmmaker Victor Gabriel (of Blood Gorge and Cruel), and he's genuinely excited. Meta horror elements, great visuals, real craft on display. A small premiere is coming — watch this space.Movie Theater Massacre (Tubi) (2023) — Shot at the historic Redford Theater in Redford, Michigan, this COVID-era local slasher features a butter knife as a murder weapon and a Linnea Quigley cameo. It's not great. It exists.Scanner Cop 2 (Youtube) (1995)— John watched it. His dog was audibly disturbed by the psychic screaming noises. Kane Hodder is in it. Robert Forster is in it and deserved better. The highlight is a villain who threatens to "kill you so bad."New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. The revival comes through a partnership between Shear Enterprises, LLC, and Horror Online Video Store Experience, Kings of Horror, which just had its premiere episode on October 25 and now will be back with a special Thanksgiving-themed show on Saturday, November 22, at 10:00PM. And don't be surprised if Rhonda serves up a celluloid turkey or two. "Up All Night was never just a show—it was an attitude... and maybe a little eyeliner, cleavage, and sarcasm," said Shear. "Now we're back—louder, sassier, and somehow even funnier. Teaming up with Kings of Horror means we're not just dusting off VHS tapes—we're throwing a full-on horror house party at my Shear Media Studios in Tampa Bay on custom nostalgia-dipped sets. We've got a killer team of writers, comedians, and production partners ready to unleash all-new skits, twisted characters, and laugh-your-ass-off moments.” The series will spotlight indie horror from grassroots DIY to festival standouts, alongside cult classics and premieres. The creative team includes scream queens Linnea Quigley and Felissa Rose, musician John Brennan, special guest /comedic actor Yuki, and filmmaker Richard Gabai. Not only will this show reconnect Rhonda with her legions of Up All Night fans, it will also introduce her to a new generation who discovered her as the award-winning lingerie mogul behind Rhonda Shear Intimates and the Ahh Bra infomercial sensation. “I can't believe Up All Night premiered 30 years ago—this new incarnation is going to blow my longtime fans out of the water—and trust me, we will be dragging a whole new generation into some late-night chaos they didn't know they needed," exclaimed Shear. THE SWIMMER (1968) We dive deep in to The Swimmer and discuss and analyze, maybe just a little bit the glorious film directed by Frank Perry, based on a screenplay by Eleanor Perry, from the 12 page short story by John Cheever. "Well-off ad man Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) is visiting a friend when he notices the abundance of backyard pools that populate their upscale suburb. Ned suddenly decides that he'd like to travel the eight miles back to his own home by simply swimming across every pool in town."If you're reading this I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Tune in to hear all about filming that iconic deer antler impalement in “Silent Night, Deadly Night” (1984), dancing nude in a graveyard in “The Return of the Living Dead” (and what happened to its proposed 2025 sequel, “Trash's Revenge”), and of course, her famous lipstick scene in “Night of the Demons” (1988).

He was a stranger... and a killer! In this impromptu and somewhat shambolic bonus episode, Ted and Sammy catch up with Rob and Joe to try and remember as much as possible from the previous night's drunken watchalong of Psycho From Texas (1975), directed by Jim Feazell - an obscure piece of cinema trash which Ted found on an old VHS but which is also available on YouTube. Smalltown oil tycoons, underwhelming hitmen, confused children, gratuitous floral print clothing, the longest foot chase in cinema history, earnest country and western odes to hatred, killing and rape, and an early career appearance from Linnea Quigley which she (understandably) would rather forget. Psycho from Texas is a strange little film and we have great fun talking about it. This movie seems impossible to spoil, as far as we're concerned, so consider the entire episode to be Spoiler Territory – honestly, I wouldn't worry. But if you want to watch before listening, it's easily available on YouTube and, loathe as we are to recommend the film, those with the right mindset might find it pretty good fun. “It's the only zombie movie that's appropriate to watch at a July 4th barbecue! - Andrew  On this week's show, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza gets a little spooktacular as we chat about the super-fun, summer-set zombie flick, The Return of the Living Dead! Why does this Skeleton Warehouse have to be open until 10PM on a holiday weekend? How great is that half-dog puppet? Isn't it great how Russo and Romero split up their zombie sequels so we could get both sides of their shared zombie vision? Why does Frank use that entire roll of paper towels like it's a sponge? And word to the wise, never hang out in an eerie cemetery after dark! PLUS: James Karen welcomes all zombie punks to Pathmark! The Return of the Living Dead stars Clu Gulager, James Karen, Don Calfa, Beverly Randolph, John Philbin, Jewel Shepard, Miguel A. Nuñez Jr., Brian Peck, Linnea Quigley, Mark Venturini, Jonathan Terry, and Thom Mathews as Freddy; directed by Dan O'Bannon. This episode is brought to you in part by Car Gurus! Get ready for a spine-tingling dive into 1988's cult horror classic Night of the Demons on the latest episode of Parallax Views w/ J.G. Michael! Kicking off the Halloween “spooky season” series, J.G. welcomes Chris MacGibbon of the Spooky Picture Show, a die-hard fan and researcher of Night of the Demons. Chris has delved deep into the film's eerie legacy, speaking with the cast, unearthing behind-the-scenes stories, and contributing to the Blu-ray releases of Night of the Demons and its sequels. Together, they discuss what makes this iconic film—and its sequels and remakes—so unforgettable in horror history. Tune in as they explore everything from the haunting atmosphere and cult following to the demon-filled, blood-curdling thrills that keep fans returning to this Halloween favorite year after year. Among the topics covered: - The making of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988), which was filmed on a low-budget over a few weeks with some of the shooting taking place in gangland territory - The on-set romance between special effects artist Steve Johnson and scream queen Linnea Quigley (who plays Suzanne in the film) after Johnson had to create a mold of Linnea's breasts - Australian director Brian Trenchard-Smith's NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2; although the first movie had comedic elements, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 dove into full-on horror farce territory - The strange and troubled history of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 3 in Canada and its connections to the children's horror TV shows Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps - The rather disliked 2009 remake/reimagining of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS starring American Pie's Shannon Elizabeth, Freddy Vs. Jason's Monica Keena, and Terminator 2's Edward Furlong - How NIGHT OF THE DEMONS director Kevin S. Tenney ended up working on the film after making the cult classic Witchboard - Republic Pictures and the unexpected success of Night of the Demons on the home video market - Amelia Kinkade, the actress who plays the goth-girl-turned-demon-possessed-villain-of-the-series Angela, and her other life as a pet psychic; also discussion of her awesome dance scenes in Night of the Demons and Night of the Demons 2 where she dances to the gothic post-punk band Bauhaus and the death metal band Morbid Angel! - And more!

Ditch the school dance and come party with Angela because we're talking Kevin S. Tenney's Night of the Demons (1988). Not a lot of character or plot in this one, but it's a really fun time with some stylish direction and great FX. Plus: Angela as a dancing (nepo) icon, Linnea Quigley's line deliveries, Rodger as a rare black 80s horror survivor, and subverting the "good boy/bad boy" trope with Jay and Sal. Questions? Comments?
