Fin Tutuola arrests the Antifa demonstrator who held the protest sign Cobb was violated with. But Detectives Amanda Rollins and Sonny Carisi find an alternative suspect: a devoted fan who's also a violent extremist. ADA Rafael Barba worries Cobb's affect will turn off the jury. At trial, she seems more focused on scoring political points with the defense attorney than obtaining a conviction against her rapist. But when new evidence surfaces calling the suspect identification in doubt, Barba makes a bold move. Fine dining is hell, apparently. If you don't believe The Bear, I guess you could turn to this SVU for further evidence, but that might be giving it more credit than it's due.Here, we watch as Not Gordon Ramsey throws temper tantrums in his terribly named fine dining effort, pushing questionably sourced prawns, screaming at his runners, and sexually assaulting his waitstaff. This guy is a real a-hole, but he keeps shaking the charges, which leads the Unit to working with--or is it against--the Brooklyn ADA who really dug Stone's pickoff move. One look at which season this one comes from should tell you everything you need to know. Characters do things they'd never have done under a different guiding hand, details aren't well thought out, and nothing makes sense. Sometimes an SVU really does the racism. Then there's S7E6 Raw, which for an unfathomable 20:51 unfurls bigotry at an astonishing rate--an average of once every 23 seconds. And it doesn't even start until past the 16-minute mark. Fin and the Unit get sucked into a rap beef that wouldn't put Kendrick Lamar and Drake to shame. As apparently has to be the case, Fin knows one of the rappers in question, going way back to his childhood with "Snake" Anderson. SVU brings in a big gun in Snoop Dogg and recognizable other talent of color in Orlando Jones and Amber Stevens West, but this is Season 20 SVU, so hoping that any of these three actors' talent was put to good use would be foolish. Little makes sense in this week's episode, and Fin probably commits a felony. At this stage, we really thought we couldn't be surprised by Sweet Valley's approach to law enforcement and detective work. But then we learned that the only person investigating the crime scene at Fowler Crest, which was almost burned to the ground by an unknown arsonist, is... Steven Wakefield. Benson and Stabler look for a killer who met his victim on an anonymous dating site. They arrest Peter Butler, who's been having quickie sex all over town. The detectives link him to the strangled victim and an unsolved rape, but the physical evidence clears him of those crimes. But they learn Peter is HIV positive and, in a fit of misogyny, has been intentionally infecting women. Cabot charges him with spreading the disease. While on trial, one of his victims sprays acid on his face, leaving him permanently scarred. Newly released Department of Justice files and internal emails show that just **five days after Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on federal sex-trafficking charges in July 2019, federal authorities — including the FBI in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York — ordered the New York Police Department Special Victims Unit (SVU) to “stand down” its own investigations into Epstein and related matters. The directive reportedly came via outreach from the FBI to NYPD leadership, instructing that all Epstein-related investigative work from that point forward was to be handled through federal channels, effectively sidelining the NYPD's specialized child exploitation investigators. At the time, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office also had its own parallel inquiry underway, but the communication suggested that any further NYPD actions should defer to federal leadership.Emails among federal agents indicated that the motivation for the stand-down order was concern about overlapping cases and the perception of “competing investigations,” particularly after the DA's office reached out to a victim for interview amid the unfolding federal prosecution. The directive applied specifically to SVU — the unit trained to handle sex crimes and child abuse cases — and essentially shut out local detectives from pursuing additional leads or interviewing witnesses independently once Epstein was in federal custody. Internal discussions later suggested that NYPD's Epstein inquiry was effectively closed or deferred to the FBI, limiting the department's role despite its expertise in handling such cases. Our boy mayhem keeps his head throughout this season 1 attempt to tackle the time honored debate as to whether a criminal's nature causes them to commit heinous acts, or whether the terrible environment they were nurtured in is more to blame. For our first ever Season 27 episode of SVU, we caught a fun ripped-from-the-headlines story that manages to do the impossible. This tale of a serial doula-duper whose escalating fraud eventually lands her in the lap of our heroes has a twist I never saw coming. Michele Fazekas and her writing room have managed to make Olivia Benson seem fresh and interesting. For far from the first time in the run of Munch My Benson, a foreign-born actor plays fast and loose with a wavering accent. This time, the offender was two-time Oscar-nominee Brenda Blethyn, whose presence pulls a certain big gun down from the bench to settle a 34-year-old score. Of course, this being the Warren Leight years, Benson and her relationship are put through the ringer, as the 12th Precinct is as dirty as it gets and Cassidy gets caught up in some pretty dicey stuff with a scuzzy cop and his sad and desperate partner. Alas, our hopes for some Frank Cobra level excitement in the second half of this book were not realised, as most of it consists of Jessica being unbearable, Jacques acting like a prize fool, Laurent being a spineless embarrassment and Liz running away crying. Only the constantly shrieking Countess di Rimini and her total disregard for the laws of France bring the drama, and boy does she leave the best until last - yes, it may have been (insanely) spoilered in the book, and yes, we may have to wait until the very end of the book to see it happen, but we do get the see the Wakefield twins where they belong - chained to the walls of a medieval dungeon! Elliot Stabler and his new partner/work crush Dani Beck look for whoever fled after trying to kidnap two children. Eden (played by a young Elle Fanning) says her sister is still missing and Marc stabs Stabler with a pen. Fin and Munch think this a part of a child smuggling operation connected to a sketchy adoption agency. The detectives recover an audiotape of a child being smothered in a "rebirthing" ceremony. Stabler and Beck then arrest some foster parents who've been keeping their children in cages. Novak can't get a conviction because the kids won't testify against the abusive adults. To help Eden feel safe, Dani agrees to let the child sleep at her place. She awakes after Eden (who clearly has some issues to work through) tries to burn the room down. Burned out herself, Dani tells Elliot she's not cut out for SVU. And despite their smoldering longing for each other, she walks out of his life forever.
