It's a Monstie Baby episode! We're breaking the format with the premiere episode of Monster Rally Top 5, a countdown bonus series where the Monstie Men are joined by a guest & rank their Top 5 favorites of a given topic. There's nobody we're happier to have join us for this special episode than author, writer, & podcaster-extraordinaire: Jordan Morris! Make sure you head on down to your Local Comic Shop and pick up a copy of Jordan's newest comic, Web of Spider-verse: New Blood, where he pens a tale about a vampire-slaying Mary Jane Watson hunting a vampiric Spider-Man set in the 80's. And while you're already at your LCS, ask them to pre-order a copy (or 10) of Jordan's next comic, Godzilla vs LA, which will benefit charities helping to rebuild LA after the horrific fires that ravaged the city earlier this year. As always, follow the Monster Rally on Instagram, and you can buy merch, follow the Monstie Men on Letterboxd, or link to the Monstie Manual (the Monster Rally SubStack) on our Linktree. Join Matt and Ben as they dive into the history of Evil Dead II, its strange production history, and its impact on the horror and slipstream genre. Evil Dead II gave way to the comedy horror trope that relied not on satire, but instead its own honest sense of humor contrasted with bloody horror. This style of storytelling would become not only a staple of the franchise but would shape popular culture for years to come. This is The Return of the Movie. Send us a textWhat makes a horror franchise legendary? Is it the chills that linger long after the credits roll, or the uncanny characters that haunt our dreams? Buckle up for a spine-tingling journey as hosts Tom, Mitch, and Hayden count down the top 10 horror franchises of all time. Starting with Mitch's number 10 pick, "Nightmare on Elm Street," we unravel the twisted appeal of Freddy Krueger and ponder the series' struggle with consistency. We also dissect how franchises like "Jeepers Creepers" lost their initial spark and why "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" keeps us coming back for more terror. Get ready to embrace both the nostalgic and the new, as our conversation shifts to the evolution of horror classics. From the action-packed realms of "Resident Evil" to the chilling authenticity of the early "Paranormal Activity" films, we investigate what hooks audiences to these stories. Weighing in on the merits of recent remakes, the team doesn't shy away from the gory details of how these films balance horror and storytelling. With a nod to the suspenseful allure of "Predator" and the haunting atmosphere of the "Conjuring" series, this episode is a must-listen for any horror aficionado. But we're not all slashers and ghouls—our discussion takes a detour to examine adaptations and their fidelity to original lore. From Amazon's take on "Warhammer" to Netflix's audacious "Terminator Zero," the importance of authenticity is put under the microscope. We wrap up with reflections on the heartfelt legacy of "The Grand Tour," a nostalgic touchstone that leaves us entertained yet sentimental. Don't miss out as we gear up for our next Halloween-themed horror movie episode—rate and review with five stars to join the spooky celebration!Support the show

It's hard to believe, looking back, at how crazy big the hype around Freddy Krueger got. This is where it all begins, 1984's unexpected smash hit, A Nightmare on Elm Street! Peter and Jacob dutifully scour over every single scene for your listening pleasure in truly epic fashion. They go over people who were almost cast, mistakes on set, and quite a bit more. The guys wrap-up the 2023 Halloween season with a third and final horror special! This time, Mike forces Jay to watch the ninth installment of the Jason Vorhees saga (which we're legally not supposed to call "Friday the 13th..." oops) and after weighing whether or not this is the worst of the Crystal Lake teen-slash-a-thons, our hapless heroes list off their bottom five horror franchises!
Spooky szn; Talk to Me review; top 10 Horror Franchises

Hello out there, and welcome back! As promised, Chris and Nick have returned with an all-new episode to discuss Halloween Ends, the final film in David Gordon Green's sequel trilogy that's now out in theaters and on Peacock. Like every Halloween fan out there, we've got some thoughts on this unique and highly divisive horror film, featuring an original score by John Carpenter (with his usual collaborators Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies) as well as what is -- supposedly -- the very last on-screen appearance of Jamie Lee Curtis as babysitter, massacre survivor, and, uh, pumpkin pie baker Laurie Strode. We really enjoyed being back to talk all things Carpenter once again, and we hope you'll join us for an in-depth, occasionally rather heated talk about the final (?) chapter in the franchise that he and Debra Hill kicked off back in 1978. Enjoy, and, if you're a horror fan, please join us on our new show, The Shuddering (shudderingpod.simplecast.com)!Be warned: MAJOR SPOILERS for Halloween Ends beginning at 36:10 on this episode! They conclude at 1:21:25.

The third installment of our Spooktacular focuses on two of the most beloved and well-known horror franchises out there: A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Because we are unique and don't play by the rules, we focused on the 4th installment of each. Freddy and Jason are hard to kill and good at killing, but which has the better kill scenes? What did we think of each film? Who's scarier? WTF is up with Corey Feldman? There is a lot to dive in to.We go on to compare the two franchises using Giff's horror expertise, Brad's slasher virginity, and Pete's knowledge that falls somewhere in between. Do Freddy's one-liners put him over the top? Or does the hulking Jason win by KO? We finish this episode with our lists of favorite horror franchises of all-time. Want to support our show?
