We all experience seasons of heaviness and feeling like life is too much to carry, whether because of the cold, burnout, grief, or financial stress. This week, we looked at the prophet Elijah, who, despite witnessing miraculous provision, spiraled into hopelessness when threatened by Queen Jezebel. Elijah's example shows that when we are overwhelmed, we tend to isolate and forget God's faithfulness, believing lies like "I'm the only one left." God's response was not fire, but a gentle whisper, calling Elijah to rest and restoration in His presence (Matthew 11:28). This restoration is more than sleep; it requires intentional solitude—making space away from distractions and the constant buzz—to allow God to replace our lies with His truth and renew our soul for the purpose He has for us.Support the show

There's a big difference between the wisdom of the world and God's wisdom. The world's wisdom tells us that our worth is measured by what we accomplish, driving us to a relentless pursuit of "more"—more work, more achievements, and a pace of life that leaves us exhausted. But God's wisdom, as revealed in scripture, is often counter-intuitive and calls us to a different way of living. This is why the Sabbath is so vital. It is not just a religious practice; it is an act of trust. By choosing to rest for one day, we reject the world's demand to always be striving and instead surrender our control to God. This pause allows us to step away from our "got to" lists and embrace our "get to" list, practicing the truth that we are more than what we do. It is in this discipline of rest that we build the faith to trust God with every other area of our lives.Support the show

This week's teaching emphasizes the significance of forgiveness during the Christmas season, highlighting that while Christmas is often seen as a time for giving, forgiveness is absolutely critical to the Christmas narrative. Support the show

As we walk through the emotions that surround Christmas, theres a bit one that we need to tackle. The holidays are a milestone that trigger memories, both good and bad. For many of us, the holidays remind us of a person that we've lost or a marriage that dissolved. It reminds us of what don't have as much (or more) as what we do have. As someone who is currently going through a heavy loss in his family, Pastor Ed walked us throught mulitple scriptures that help us frame grief around the holidays. Support the show

We are going deeper into the idea of Emotional Intelligence, especially as it relates to the Christmas Season. We are not just talking about listening to those around us, but also being emotionally available as we listen. When we look at the Christmas Story, we see how Mary and Joseph's EQ - through surrender and obedience - strengthened their relationship with God and each other. We'll explore how being emotionally available to the people we love can strengthen our relationships, and how it all beings with our connection with God. Support the show
