Maya Stephens and Gwyneth Bignell (us) discuss all things media - an area they have nearly no authority in. Join them (us) weekly to listen to them get too excited about movies, music, and topics that they, once again, have very little authority in. Maya Stephens and Gwyneth Bignell
It's been a minute but we are back with battle of the decades reviews. Listen to us ramble about the movies, music, and even some true crime from (possibly) our favourite decade yet -- the 70s. Ps. no more video component we realized we actually hate it.
In the second episode of our many-part series, we talk about music, movies, and books from the 60s (and literally anything else that comes to mind... someone get them a filter).
HELLO AGAIN FRIENDS...and foes. WELCOME TO BATTLE OF THE DECADES EPISODE ONE! This week we introduce our new series where we go on a journey to decide, beyond the shadow of a doubt, with no questions asked, no arguments accepted, and no other opinions taken into account, which decade had the best media. This week we review music, movies, shows, and books from the fifties (and naturally, we talk about literally everything and anything else that enters our minds during recording too).
We do exactly what we did last week but with music. We rank a list that Gwyneth compiled of some of the most important Christmas music and, yet again, we are far more vulgar than is warranted at Christmastime.
We rank a list that Maya compiled of some of the most important Christmas movies. We also talk about absolutely NSFC(hristmas) content. We will both be filing appeals to get back on the nice list.
We record remotely and play some card games: Most Likely To..., Would You Prefer, and Things in a Box. This episode is pretty casual, but we will be back to normal next episode, we swear. MWUAH.
In our most provocative (and possibly embarrassing) episode yet, we review Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, and Grindr. We apologize in advance. PS. If you are our dads or brothers do not enter.
This week we lose touch with reality but hold tight to the last semblance of sanity that we possess. Okay... really, Maya does a dramatic retelling of Big Fish with commentary and we talk about our favourite Tim Burton flicks.
BEWARE: This episode might be cursed... Maya and Gwyn read each other their favourite Creepypasta stories - smiledog.jpg, 1999, and The Rake. Happy Spooky season, and remember, the scariest thing of all is killing someone's loved ones with a deadly virus! Stay masked and distanced this Halloween.
Celebrate our tenth episode with us by getting a little too personal. This week we connect during the card game "We're Not Really Strangers" (which is great, because we are indeed lifelong friends).
Yeah, I guess you could say we're pretty much hardcore gamer girls. This week, we cover a brief history of Animal Crossing, some major events that coincided with the release of the latest installment New Horizons, and some nice lil anecdotes. We also make an important announcement. Tune in to learn more ;)
In this week's extra chill episode we discuss the movie Vivarium. We didn't hate it, we're not sure if we liked it, and we will not say any more on the subject; you'll have to listen to know the truth.
This week, Gwyn discusses the 2014 Tumblr Grunge aesthetic and how it evolved into Dark Academia, and Maya draws a parallel between the 2014 Tumblr Pastel/Lolita-core aesthetic and Cottage Core. Find the listening companion playlist on Spotify under the title "we understand you're misunderstood". TW: Eating disorder, pedophilia, suicide/self harm, drug abuse, alcoholism, assault, sexual abuse
In this week's extra special episode, Maya and Gwyn chat with their very first guest Adam Bignell about all things Hyperpop. As a little treat, Maya and Gwyn so lovingly compiled a playlist of all the artists mentioned in the episode. Find it on Spotify under the title Scratching the Itch.
This week we cover the remaining three Saw movies and decide whether the series went on for too long or not (spoiler: it did).
This week's episode is the first in a two part series where we go over all 900 Saw movies. We talk about how much we love them and also how much we hate them. This two part series also happens to be the first episode(s) we ever recorded so please be extra nice to us!
In this week's episode we talk about Bronies and Rick & Morty drama and we don't say anything that's like, too offensive, but we feel like we may have crossed a boundry or two. We hope that you enjoy anyways and we love you. Sorry furries.
In this week's episode, Gwyn forgets who Hall and Oates are (and Maya and Gwyn choose albums for each other to review).
This week we talk about one of Maya's favourite movies, Dazed and Confused, which has five stars for recognizability, and therefore, clickfactor. Enjoy!
