Learning to speak the language should be simple and fun, so these episodes will be short and straight…

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 5, 2023 3:17

With the imperative in Italian you need to change tracks, for example if you say to a person you know eat the pizza, you would say mangia , if you were commanding them to do it instead of tu mangi, however if you say to a person eat the pizza, you would say mangi, so you are switching from a to i in this case and in the last from i to a for the informal in the first case and formal in the second case for the verbs ENDING in are, what can you tell me for the other verbs that end in ere and ire?

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 7, 2022 4:24

Using two verbs volerci and metterci used with time expressions in Italian to express the amount of time it takes to perform an activity When using volerci the amount of time is the subject so the amount of time is either singular like for example one hour or plural two hours therefore volerci can be used only in the third person singular or plural form.ci vuole un ora or ci vogliono due ore. However with metterci a person is performing the action so it is conjugated in all persons, for example, ci metto un ora ci or ci metto due ore

Note when speaking in the present perfect or past we use either the auxiliary verb have or essere in the present plus the past participle of the main verb. When using the auxiliary have the past participle does not change e for example Lei ha scritto una lettera d'amore, however when using the auxiliary verb essere where the main verb is a movement verb , reflexive or verb of change ( nacere , morire, diventare) the past participle changes in gender and number for example Lei e' andato a cavallo or Lei e' andata a cavallo, lei si e' innamorata, lui si e' innamorato Try writing them out correctly remembering the rules, ciao a presto!
