THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

Why foreign “hammers” fail and what leaders must do differently in 2025 For decades, foreign companies entering Japan have repeated the same mistake: dispatching a “change agent” from HQ to shake things up. The scenario often ends in disaster. Relationships are broken, trust collapses, and revenues fall. In 2025, the lesson is clear—Japan doesn't need hammers. It needs builders who listen, localise, and lead with respect. Why do foreign change agents so often fail in Japan? Most fail because they arrive as “hammers,” assuming Japanese organisations are nails to be pounded. They issue orders, demand compliance, and move quickly to replace “uncooperative” staff. Within months, good people leave, clients are alienated, and HQ is asking why nothing has improved. In Japan's relationship-driven culture, trust and precedent matter more than speed. What works in the US or Europe—shock therapy and rapid restructuring—backfires badly in Tokyo. Mini-Summary: Change agents fail because they impose foreign models on Japan, destroying relationships and trust in the process. What makes Japan's business environment unique? Japan's corporate culture is deeply relationship-based. Employees and clients alike expect stability, respect for hierarchy, and long-term partnership. Leaders who ignore these norms are seen as reckless and disrespectful. Imagine if a Japanese executive were sent to New York or Sydney with no English, no knowledge of local clients, and an eagerness to sack your colleagues. How would staff react? That's how many Japanese employees feel when foreign hammers arrive. Mini-Summary: Japan values stability, respect, and trust. Ignoring cultural context guarantees resistance to foreign-led change. How does poor localisation damage performance? Foreign leaders often fail because they don't understand Japanese customers, laws, or working styles. Policies designed for HQ markets rarely fit Japan. When imposed, they drive away clients and demoralise employees. Losing even a handful of senior staff can devastate sales because relationships with clients are personal and long-standing. Unlike in Silicon Valley or London, relationships in Japan cannot be quickly replaced. Mini-Summary: Poor localisation alienates both staff and customers. Once key relationships are broken in Japan, they are almost impossible to rebuild quickly. What should leaders do differently before landing in Japan? Preparation is everything. Leaders should study Japanese language, culture, and business practices before stepping on the plane. They must also build “air cover” at HQ—support for localisation and patience with results. Quick wins help: small, visible improvements that build credibility. Equally important is identifying influencers inside the Japanese office to champion necessary changes. Instead of dictating, leaders must co-create solutions with the local team. For a comprehensive roadmap, leaders should read Japan Business Mastery and Japan Leadership Mastery, which remain the most up-to-date guides on how to succeed in Japan's unique and complex business environment. Mini-Summary: Leaders should prepare deeply, secure HQ support, and pursue small wins with local influencers. Japan Business Mastery and Japan Leadership Mastery are the definitive playbooks for succeeding in Japan. Why is listening more powerful than ordering in Japan? Successful leaders in Japan listen first. They try to understand why processes exist before changing them. What seems inefficient to outsiders may serve a hidden purpose, such as preserving harmony with partners or complying with local regulations. Listening builds credibility and signals respect. Staff become more open to change when they feel heard. By contrast, ordering without listening provokes silent resistance, where employees nod in meetings but fail to execute later. Mini-Summary: Listening creates buy-in and reveals hidden logic. Ordering without listening triggers silent resistance in Japan. How can foreign leaders build rather than wreck in Japan? The answer is to be a builder, not a wrecker. Builders respect relationships, cultivate influencers, and adapt global practices to local realities. They hasten slowly, introducing sustainable changes without blowing up trust. Executives at firms like Microsoft Japan and Coca-Cola Japan have shown that localisation, patience, and humility create long-term growth. Change agents may deliver in other markets, but in Japan, only builders succeed. Mini-Summary: Builders succeed by respecting trust, localising global models, and moving at Japan's pace. Conclusion The “change agent” model is a repeat failure in Japan. In 2025, foreign companies must abandon the hammer approach and embrace a builder mindset—listening, localising, and cultivating trust. Japan's market is rich, stable, and full of opportunity, but only for leaders who respect its unique culture. For executives who want a practical roadmap, Japan Business Mastery and Japan Leadership Mastery remain the most relevant and up-to-date books on how to win in this demanding environment. About the Author Dr. Greg Story, Ph.D. in Japanese Decision-Making, is President of Dale Carnegie Tokyo Training and Adjunct Professor at Griffith University. On Tuesday, the top U.S. generals will meet at Quantico for an audience with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump. Hegseth's order for the gathering comes on the heels of the firing of top military officers. It also lands in the middle of Hegseth's attempts to purge the military of DEI initiatives and programs that he sees as not aligned with the military's core mission of “lethality.” President Trump is expected to address the group. His speech comes after his recent order to send the National Guard into “war ravaged” Portland, Oregon, over the objection of local officials. Host Colby Itkowitz speaks with Pentagon reporter Dan Lamothe about how The Post broke the story of the generals' meeting, the logistics of gathering so many senior military officials in one place, and the optics of the president and defense secretary speeches to the top brass.Today's show was produced by Rennie Svirnovskiy with help from Laura Benshoff. //The Wire//2300Z September 22, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY BEGINS IN NEW YORK. WHITE HOUSE "CLARIFIES" H-1B POLICY BY CHANGING MUCH OF WHAT WAS ANNOUNCED. VIOLENT ATTACKS CONTINUE AROUND UNITED STATES. PRESIDENT TRUMP DESIGNATES ANTIFA AS DOMESTIC TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Europe: Copenhagen Airport remains shut down as multiple drones continue to interfere with flight operations. The airport initially issued a temporary ground stop for all arrivals/departures, which as of this report has been extended until 5:00 a.m. local time. Separately, a military base in Oslo, Norway was placed on a heightened state of readiness due to drone reports as well, which resulted in the arrest of two Singaporean nationals who were operating a civilian drone over the military base.-HomeFront-New York: This week, the United Nations General Assembly has begun, with most of the noteworthy actions so far being the recognition of Palestinian statehood from a few nations. Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and a handful of others have been the biggest power-players to add to the list of nations which have recognized the legitimacy of the Palestinian government.Analyst Comment: As with most diplomatic endeavors in the region, this move will probably result in very little impact overall. Most of these recent recognitions are probably last-ditch political moves to urge a two-state solution at the eleventh hour. Nevertheless, these statements will probably draw the ire of the United States to some degree, which is still negotiating trade deals with some of these nations.Washington D.C. - Over the weekend the White House backtracked on the recent changes to the H-1B visa system. Despite Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stating in the Oval Office on the day of the announcement that the $100,000 fee for visas was per employee per year, the White House issued a "fact sheet" that reversed these statements, and that this is a one-time payment for companies seeking to hire non-American workers. Also in Washington, President Trump signed the Executive Action this afternoon designating ANTIFA as a Domestic Terrorist Organization.Analyst Comment: And now we wait. The verbiage of the order itself is not entirely indicative of how various federal agencies will respond to this, or what the outcome will be. Ordering agencies to police crimes that are already illegal isn't much help, but moving forward the most obvious theory is that federal terrorism charges might get slapped on any ANTIFA "Direct Action" attacks which are fairly standard in most major cities during periods of heightened tension. Only time will tell if various federal agencies are serious, though.Mississippi: On Saturday a hit-and-run accident was reported in Gulfport, which resulted in the death of a cyclist. Xavier Omar Rigby was arrested after hitting the victim with his vehicle, and driving approximately 8 blocks with her body on the hood of his car. Rigby fled the scene without calling 911, and was later arrested in St. Petersburg.California: The gunman which attacked an ABC broadcast station in Sacramento was detained over the weekend. Federal authorities state that Anibal Hernandez-Santana (an attorney, activist, and political lobbyist) conducted a drive-by shooting at the ABC Channel 10 television station in Sacramento.Analyst Comment: The motive for this shooting has not yet been released, but the shooter's posts on social media indicate the motivations for this attack. Even his own attorney has stated that the primary method of prosecuting him (besides the bullet holes in the ABC station) will be the radical posts that his client made on social media.New Hampshire: A mass shooting was reported over the weekend in Nashua, as a gunman targeted a wedding ceremony at the Sky Meadow

Why Your Labs Look “Normal”—But You Still Feel Off Functional Testing Secrets to Solve Fatigue, Hormone Imbalance, and Gut Issues Are you constantly told your labs look “fine,” yet you feel anything but fine? Fatigue, brain fog, stubborn weight, hormonal chaos, and digestive issues like bloating or IBS symptoms are all signs that your body is asking for help—but your standard lab work isn't giving you the answers. In this episode, I'm walking you through the exact functional lab tests I use in practice to uncover the root causes of energy crashes, perimenopausal symptoms, weight loss resistance, gut health imbalances, and more. These tests go far beyond what you're used to from conventional medicine—and they've changed the game for hundreds of my clients. We're talking about the kind of testing that doesn't just tell you if something is in range… but shows us if your body is actually functioning the way it's supposed to. We look at hormone pathways, digestion, detox capacity, mitochondrial energy production, gut microbiome patterns, and even hidden nutrient deficiencies that affect everything from metabolism to mood. If you're struggling with low energy, hormone imbalance, unresolved gut symptoms, or just can't seem to get your health back no matter how “clean” you eat… this episode will open your eyes to what's possible. When we shift from asking “what's wrong?” to “how is my body functioning?”—that's when the transformation begins. These functional labs don't just give us numbers. They show us your body's story. I've seen symptoms like IBS, migraines, bloating, insomnia, hormonal weight gain, and even mood swings melt away when we stop guessing and start testing the right way. You deserve more than “your labs are normal.” If you're ready to finally understand why your energy, digestion, or hormones feel off—even if your doctor says everything looks fine—this episode will give you the insight and empowerment you need.

Part 1: The Maternal Human – When the sensory rules, the ‘green things’ are destroyed (7 mins)

Logopraxis

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 11, 2025 7:22

The Maternal Human This Third Round is part of a 3 part series on the glorification of the Lord. Whilst no direct mention is made regarding the maternal human in this audio, the maternal human is what pertains to the things from Mary, the mother, that relate to the sensory level of person, place, time and space. The following passage is a good reference for this work: Doctrine of the Lord 35. vi. By successive steps the Lord put off the human taken from the mother, and put on a Human from the Divine within Him, which is the Divine Human, and is the Son of God. That in the Lord were the Divine and the human, the Divine from Jehovah the Father, and the human from the virgin Mary, is known. Hence He was God and Man, having a Divine essence and a human nature; a Divine essence from the Father, and a human nature from the mother; and therefore was equal to the Father as to the Divine, and less than the Father as to the human. It is also known that this human nature from the mother was not transmuted into the Divine essence, nor commingled with it, for this is taught in the Doctrine of Faith which is called the Athanasian Creed. For a human nature cannot be transmuted into the Divine essence, nor can it be commingled therewith. [2] In accordance with the same creed is also our doctrine, that the Divine assumed the Human, that is, united itself to it, as a soul to its body, so that they were not two, but one Person. From this it follows that the Lord put off the human from the mother, which in itself was like that of another man, and thus material, and put on a Human from the Father, which in itself was like His Divine, and thus substantial, so that the Human too became Divine. The green, the sensitivity, is being destroyed Arcana Coelestia 7691. And there was not left any green thing. That this signifies that all sensitivity of truth was obliterated, is evident from the signification of “not to be left,” as being to be obliterated; and from the signification of “what is green,” as being what is of memory-knowledge and the sensuous, here what is sensitive of truth, because by the “fruit of a tree” is signified the knowing of good (n. 7690), and because it is said “any green thing in the tree and in the herb of the field.” That “green” denotes that which is sensitive of truth, is because by “herb,” “grass,” and “the leaf of a tree” are signified truths; hence their “greenness” signifies that which is sensitive of truth. By this sensitivity is signified the ultimate of perception.  Ordering of the hells 7681... the evil are devastated as the Lord sets heaven in order; for the influx of good and truth from heaven causes devastation with the evil; and therefore when the Lord sets the heavens in order, then the hells, which are in the opposite, are set in order of themselves, and are removed from heaven according to the degrees of evil, and are allotted places according to the quality of their evil. Memory knowledges/scientifics do not save 7689...the herb of the land is signified the memory-knowledge of truth (scientifics), because “the land” here denotes the natural mind; and the truth of the natural mind is memory-knowledge(scientifics); and moreover the evil have no truth by faith, but only the memory-knowledge(scientific) of the truth which is of faith. Some evil men who are in the church persuade themselves that they are in truth by faith, but they are not; they are in falsity, and are against the truth of faith. That they are in falsity is hidden with them so long as they are in the world, but this hidden falsity comes forth and manifests itself in the other life when they are being devastated as to the truths of faith which they had known. Third Round posts are short audio clips taken from Round 3 comments in the online Logopraxis Life Group meetings. The aim is to maintain focus on understanding the Text's application to the inner life while reinforcing key LP principles highlighted in the exchanges.

We are kicking off the second part of Season 5 with a bang and sharing one of the coolest programs we've had the pleasure of learning about: Cardinal Manufacturing. Led by our guests, Craig and Tyson, Cardinal Manufacturing is a high school class *and* a full-fledged business that allows students to not only do actual work but learn the skills involved in running a business, from how to walk through a door with confidence and give a good handshake to how to quote jobs, do the work, and submit invoices. Like…can you even?! It's the coolest program and we can't wait to share it with you. About Cardinal Manufacturing: Cardinal Manufacturing began in the Eleva-Strum School District during the 2007-2008 academic year when instructor, Craig Cegielski, approached the School Board about the potential of pursuing an in-school manufacturing business similar to one he started in his prior position in the school district of Antigo, WI. The school board approved and since that time Cardinal Manufacturing has gone from its infant stages to a company with significant annual sales and national notoriety. The growth of the program has attracted national and international attention and Cardinal Manufacturing has attended national tradeshows and hosted celebrity guests including Wisconsin's Governor, Scott Walker. Cardinal Manufacturing has served hundreds of customers from private individuals to clients throughout the state of Wisconsin and other parts of the country. A number of students have gone directly to skilled employment positions after high school, but most choose to go on to post-secondary education through technical college or the university system. Chippewa Valley Technical College and UW-Stout have taken a particular interest in the program. Cardinal Manufacturing has also built strong relationships with a number of private companies and professional organizations which have been supportive through donations, advice, publicity opportunities, and projects. In-school programs such as Cardinal Manufacturing serve as a grassroots economic development effort. Not only do these programs expose students to career opportunities in manufacturing and teach students soft skills for future employment, but they also work toward changing the attitudes of counselors and parents to be more open to the idea of encouraging students to look at manufacturing careers. Students get hands on opportunities to try out these roles before making an expensive decision in choosing a post-secondary program. In other words, kids get the chance to try welding, machining, construction, production management, accounting, office management, and marketing prior to committing to a major or area of study. The services provided through the program are worthwhile and valuable to the customers who pay for the service. Cardinal Manufacturing is a year-long two credit class which offers more than a standard classroom instruction. Students in this class gain the real life experiences of problem solving, running a business, and working in professional career roles. Students must apply to be part of this program and manufacturing employees have successfully completed both Metal Working I and II. The application process includes creating and submitting a resume, project portfolio, and a letter of recommendation. Once accepted, student participants are assigned a role that may include: Quoting jobs Ordering materials Manufacturing parts Quality control and inspections Shipping product Receiving product and materials Invoicing Customer service Accounting Marketing Maintaining work hours Besides the great experience gained, the students receive a profit sharing check at the end of the school year based upon number of hours worked and other measurement tools. Only a portion of Cardinal Manufacturing earnings are paid to students after expenses and upcoming needs are covered. Most of the money earned supports the purchase of materials, equipment and facility needs to continually grow and improve Cardinal Manufacturing. About Craig: Craig Cegielski, a native of Marshfield, WI, developed a passion for manufacturing early on through high school technical education classes and hands-on work at a local machine and fabrication shop. He earned his degree in Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin–Stout and began his teaching career at Antigo High School, where he launched the successful student-run business, Red Robin Machining. After a brief return to industry, Craig joined Eleva-Strum High School as a Technology Education teacher. In 2007, he founded Cardinal Manufacturing, a student-run business designed to give students real-world experience in the trades. With over 20 years of dedication to technical education, Craig continues to lead and expand Cardinal Manufacturing, helping prepare students for successful careers in manufacturing. About Tyson: Tyson Rohrscheib is a Technology Education teacher at Eleva-Strum High School, where he has taught since 2019. An Eleva-Strum alumnus, Tyson began his training in Machine Tool and Die at Chippewa Valley Technical College before earning his degree in Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin–Stout. He brings a strong background in machining and hands-on learning to his teaching, preparing students for real-world careers in manufacturing and engineering. Outside of the classroom, Tyson is active on his family farm, managing a herd of 40 beef cattle and working on metalworking projects in his home shop. In this episode, we cover: What Cardinal Manufacturing is and how it started How exposing kids at a young age is key to getting them interested in a career Why technical skills are the least important thing they teach How the local community supports Cardinal Manufacturing and the students Links + Resources Mentioned: Website: Cardinal ManufacturingVideo Gallery: Watch HereFacebook: @CardinalManufacturingInstagram: @cardinal_manufacturingYouTube: Cardinal Manufacturing Channel Sponsor Spotlight: Brodie Mueller and The Market on the Plaza In small towns, coffee is more than caffeine.
