Plus Dave Challinor (the cat and manager) and a rowdy parent!Shortly after the episode was recorded, Darren Sarll was dismissed as manager with the evergreen Lennie Lawrence now at the helm. Send us a textThis episode is a continuation from Episode 16. Ivor takes us through the formation of AFC Wimbledon and their remarkable rise through the Combined Counties League into the Football League. We skip the usual format to hear from Ivor about how the club was formed, the team names which were discussed, the trials on Wimbledon Common and the pitch invasion after the very first match versus Sutton! We also hear about the play off final against Luton, a result which got the club into the Football League. As you may know Wimbledon's ground suffered significant damage following flooding earlier in the week. Ivor talks about the parallels with the Newcastle tie (now moved to St James Park) and the Leeds FA Cup game referenced in Episode 1. Crowdfunding to support AFC Wimbledon in getting games on following flood damage to the pitch and stadium on JustGivingIncredible to see the generosity of the football fans with (at the time of writing this) £117,000 raised. Bad language counter (not that bad really and Ivor did ask permission first but there were a few expletives!): 24:3537:3947:5948:0150:361:02.11MUSIC:New Waves - SoundrollWant to be a guest: email: loyalspodcast@gmail.com Facebook page: LoyalSupportersPodcast | FacebookTikTok:@loyalsupporterspodcast Twitter:TheLoyalSupportersPodcast (@LoyalSupportPod) / X
Send us a textMy latest guest on TLSP was Ivor Heller, a Wimbledon fan since 1972.Ivor was a great guest and a hugely passionate fan. He recalls the days of Wimbledon in the Southern league and their meteoric rise through the Football league until they reached the First Division in 1986. In 1988, Wimbledon defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup Final at Wembley, although as Ivor says this wasn't as big a shock as people suggested. A brilliant conversation littered with some great stories, and we are back for more in a few weeks!MUSIC:New Waves - SoundrollWant to be a guest: email: loyalspodcast@gmail.com Facebook page: LoyalSupportersPodcast | FacebookTikTok:@loyalsupporterspodcast Twitter:TheLoyalSupportersPodcast (@LoyalSupportPod) / X

Send us a Text Message. My latest guest on TLSP was Miles McKinlay, a Nottingham Forest Fan. The name McKinlay will be known by most Forest fans - Miles' Grandfather is a Forest legend and played 684 times for the club. Miles started going to matches in the early 2000s and for the most part it hasn't been a great period for the club with lots of managerial changes and spells outside of the Premier League. He is, however, hopeful the club can establish itself in the top tier having gained promotion a few years ago. A brilliant episode - with a nod also to the great Forest side in the late 70s/early 80s! George has some great memories and supporting Villa has been passed down through the generations. His five year old son Joshua Aston Guest is now getting the bug and is starting to attend matches. A great conversation with a passionate supporter, George is optimistic about the future and would dearly love to see Villa win a trophy. MUSIC: New Waves - Soundroll
Send us a Text Message. In this episode, I talk to Luke Gorman. Luke grew up in Lincolnshire and was 'advised' that it would be in his interests to follow Chesterfield! Despite the fact a number of his friends followed Premier League/Championship sides, Luke took this advice and here recalls his memories of following the team at Wembley finals as well as during this seasons National League triumph. POINT OF NOTE: In the episode we briefly discussed Saltergate, Chesterfield's ground until 2010. Saltergate was used in the filming of The Damned United. Just to be clear, this was used as Derby's ground in the film. The point I was trying to make was the film was mainly around Brian Clough' tenure as the Leeds United manager, hence why I responded to 'Leeds' when Luke mentioned it.MUSIC: New Waves - Soundroll
